What is it about DayZ

Recommended Posts

That keeps you playing?

Most of these great stories are based on player vs player encounters, do the infected and the environmental aspects really matter for you to still get a kick out of this mod?

It has been a long time since I sneaked my way around the infected. For me, they are just there and occasionally help me find other players. And when I'm actually fighting other players, they are just there to piss me off.

As long as I get a mindset of "I AM this survivor" and act as such, it's quite fun.

crying out in pain through direct when I get shot and so on.

I love the lonliness of the environment when you lone wolf! I find it really atmospheric and creepy, especially at night!I love the feeling of being out there on my own with the chance of being over run by a horde or walking into a quite zombie round a corner. I dolove creeping up or around a town still. I especialyl like observgint them froma distance as I plan my route! I love the occasional groan or grunt when Im raiding a barn, all fo that helps emerse me in this mod!

i do love the PvP element to it too! I love spotting the unmistakable movements of other survivors running through the woods as I lay quietly and relativly safe keeping out of site! I also love seeing vehicles off in the distance and knowing that they haven't seen me! I do like how the .50 cal rounds attract zombies to you from a massive distance away, it certainly makes me think twice before cracking off warning (or lethal!) shots off at potential hostiles!

Quality mod!

I became really addicted to DayZ when starting playing with a squad.

I never had so much fun and so much thrill in a FPS (combat simulator ^^) before.

When I hear shots or a vehicle nearby my heart almost stops every time. :o

Taking and giving commands, coordinate maneuvers, digging out fox holes, developing plans in a almost 100 % hostile environment, where everybody and everything is first of all a threat, or just in short: It's the thrill of imminent danger behind every corner/hill/wall/tree what keeps me and my squad going on.

The zombies look a bit stupid at times for me to really feel threatened by them. Cannot fucking wait for the stand alone. What keeps this interesting for me is the team work and getting into contact with other people or groups.

I can undertstand that, though vanilla ARMA or another mod would provide this for you.

Perhaps its the community (a more casual bunch than the ARMA purists maybe) that has lot to do with its appeal and accessibility.

My days of feeling any infected induced atmosphere have long gone. They just tend to bugger up my plans for the dayz more than anything. Its most definitely the human interaction that keeps me edgy.

Definately get a kick out of lying in the treeline watching a town or village, identifying the buildings worth checking out, where snipers might be observing said building from and the order i'll be approaching each building in. Zs always provide the one variable I cant accurately predict and base sound plans on. Usually they're the reason things go sour, but they're in no way as difficult to manage as they were when I first logged in and saw them patrolling the horizon at dusk... Many fond memories...

The atmosphere is what keeps me playing. When I was still green I found myself unarmed, hungry, crouched in the corner of a warehouse, listening to the Zs outside in the rain and too afraid to turn on the flashlight incase they saw it and came in to investigate. But as previously stated, the Zs are more of an annoyance now than a threat.

DayZ, in my opinion, is best played in a night-time server with no NVG and only flares and torches for light.

I watch someone else on youtube and I ache to get back in there. At times, I'm in a near-blissful state of happiness and peacefulness while running alone through the mountains and forests.

It depends on your mindset and situation, the game does have a tendency to have moments where it's completely lackluster of stimulation - though other times those times can be filled with suspense instead. I enjoy playing the character as myself too, really enjoy hunting and cooking meat solo and all the other nice additions to the game.

Although the zombies obviously aren't the real stimulation to keep playing I find I enjoy having to trick them and stuff often. On Lingor earlier I was searching military barracks and using smoke grenades to send the dozen or so zombies running off (only had a hatchet at the time)

But yeah as others are saying the true thrill of the game is either gunning down players or being hunted by bandits if you're a survivor.

I mainly play on private servers now and they usually have side channel open, so I go back for the community. It's cool messing around with others with a helicopter or something.

And I do enjoy the occasional murder of a random player, when I'm in the mood. :)

Player interaction

Zombie interaction! They are pretty good on the dance floor. Although the conversion usually revolves around eating fleash and moaning.

i still enjoy all the aspects, from the lonely hunt for starter gear as a fresh spawn.

to the avoiding/using cover to hide (rabbting) from other players. (i esp. like this aspect) just last nite i was scouting from a mtn. ridgetop and watched as a squad of 3 vehicles pulled, in looted the town and then stashed 1 car. they then stuck around for a bit watching the area then drove off..

soon as they left i sneak down to were they hide the car. ps thx for that, hahah

i still find Z. interaction great when i have nothing, but once im geared, the Zombies become less worrisome obviously. but i think thats how it should be.

ps over the weekend i did notice a tendency in the Takistan maps that the fresh spawns Electro hill snipers are setting up here now..

couple of times i got sniped with hi power rifles shortly after spawning (had nothing) running to the first civy area i found. kinda lame, but perhaps they are bored of sniping freshies in Cherna.

DayZ makes you fight for what you have possibly earned, making the PvP pretty intense. I like that about it.

im started playing again a few days ago but im losing interest fast. everybody shoots on sight and i got tired of losing my stuff.

the worst thing in DayZ is that you spend most time running than playing the game. i dont see anything fun about running for 15 minutes just to get to cherno and get sniped.

What keeps me playing is the ability to work with a close knit group just working away achieving things and also the player interaction in a good legit firefight is awesome still.

The environment definately. So long as the game's not getting hacked out, i can buy into that totally. As for the zombies I am with chris really. the only time i ever have to shoot one is when i am desperate for a bandage. These days I dont seem to get long trails of them behind me so either they changed something or i have adapted to how to run to lose them. they rarely seem to be a bother at all and the glitching through walls bit makes it worse. You just gotta hope that side of it will be better come standalone. I keep playing because the intensity of combat when it finally happens and that i know someone is badly aggrieved to lose their gear as am i.

Except I didn't write it, you did!

So Rogue's got himself confused. Possibly due to spending too much time thinking about wobbly bits. :o

The thing about this game why i still keep playing cause it's the only game that has really get me nervous when encountering a (what do i say) shaky situation or seeing a group of other survivors in the middle of nowhere that you don't expect to see anyone. It's redicolus how i get nervous and start shaking and my heart beating IT'S AND AWESOME FEELING.

That you can go from 0 to 160 just by turning a corner or spotting two runners in the middle of the wilderness. Some player interactions leave my hands shaking from excess adrenaline, doesn't happen in other games.
