20 words or less: Super-Low Humanity Detection

Recommended Posts

NO

That means you can get detected by someone just by pure luck, like the crosshair.

I'm willing to try this one, but I mostly agree with ZedsDeadBaby

Persistent identity through permanent name and appearance would attach long-term consequence to short-term decisions without necessitating outward' date=' artificial indicators.

Ive been shot in the back too many times to not kill others ' date=' fix the voice chat so that players can trust people again.

Um, it's fixed?

Its too quiet. Even with the VON/Microphone all the way up.

This should be a good substitute to convey the subtle hints of "bad vibes" that the game cannot due to technical limitations.

(but the game still needs to detect the occasions where you kill in self defence rather than cold blood better)

I like the idea, how about adding a visual cue, like dirtier/grungier looking skins, not overt but noticeable.

You would have to be too close to hear it = most likely dead before you got close enough and you couldnt increase the range without it being 'unrealistic'

Good passive mechanic. Simulates instinct and perception without being too theatrical or dramatic. If you survive long enough to notice.

BUT, the heart beat should go away with time. If I play with a friend and he is a bandit, I wouldn't be nervous, since I know him as time passes.

YES, but ONLY IF:

If you're nerfing bad guys by giving everybody psychic abilities in 'line of sight', let bad guys have the psychic ability to hear ALL HEARTBEATS within a 20m radius. Think of it as "I'm so bad, I need super powers to survive", which will become true, anyway.

Would prefer a witness/reputation system. Someone sees me murder someone and survives: I build a reputation as a killer. No witness, no penalty.

NO.

Too contrived. Slight maybe because it could help survivors trust each other more, but i prefer increasing incitement for cooperation instead.

But make sure that it's subtle - something that has to be agonized over if you want to notice it.

I'd imagine there is a finite proximity for detection?

Say 10 metres?

You can't pick up the subtlety of a guilty demeanour from across a field.

This is insane. Please don't do this.

Why not? If everybody now automagically can hear their heart beat faster whenever they look at a bad guy' date=' the bad guys are going to be shot, which everybody else is not. My idea simply gives the bad guy a fighting chance.

I couldn't recommend my hair going up on the back of my neck, so this seems logical to me.

Actually, I was being serious, for the reasons above. If you don't like the idea, don't take it. It's certainly your prerogative.

Edit: Wow. I feel pretty bad that you would think that my idea was some kind of troll post. I spent a good deal of time to try and NOT come off as an ass in under 20 words. I guess I didn't do a good enough job. 20 words though. That's pretty tough.

NO.

You managed so far without adding hacks like this, stick to it.

Some people are psychopaths and you don't know till too late.

TS/RM (too short read more):

Expanded idea/suggestion:

the heart beat effect starts off larger when you have higher humanity (but still significantly negative), and gets lower as your humanity *decreases*. i.e. Gets higher then lower again with decreasing humanity. This models how much of an expert killer you are, and how well you have learnt to hide in plain sight.

Oh, ok... I support the original idea, but this would be taking it too far... I'll show myself out now...

I like the idea because at long or even medium range you're not going to be able to tell anything about the person. However if you get right up close and personal you might be able to sense that something is off about a guy.

YES.

This is a great idea, and well worth experimenting with. Also, not knowing exactly what your humanity number will make players play to the actions they take, and not play to the numbers.

Someone can be directly responsible for a death without being attributed with the kill. Penalise resource expenditure, not banditry.

If nothing else, for experimentation of a new idea. If it fails, something else may come of it.
