Oh, I finally saw: NVG, flashlight, GPS, etc... Yep, good thinking for all of those.

Awesome idea - especially the town generators and portal generators

Also as probably already mentioned this type of addition encourages people to make bases and invest in a server/town in a server, which discourages server hopping and gives people something else to do than just shot people when they get bored

for those who don't see a group of random people work together and fixing things in real life' date=' please get out of the chair and go outside, go to a pub where working class people go and find a mechanic or maintenance guy / gal to talk to and find out, in my circle of friends i got guys who build their own trucks and motorcycles, guys who do their own electrical stuff in their houses and such, why does any one think tinkering is difficult in a world where a lot is up for grabs and no legal enforcement who says this is not save enough, you need to add airbags etc..

i like this idea but all of this points towards oganised team play which i think is just one more reason to make this a private server thing for Roleplay

though I dont think this is thought through yet. Maybe if you power a town there wont be anymore zombies spawning in it? I dont see how they would pose a threat if I can have electrified/heatet metal plates and powertools.

Also generators should have a growing chance of breaking by themselves the longer it runs. And make it really hard. If I see cherno lit at night that should be an epic event.

not sure if we need batteries in the small equipment like NVGs and so on right away.

Iam in on this Idea.

Make everything that operates electric rechargable (GPS, NVG, Flashlight).

Maybe batteries as loot/ammo.

Being able light up a town would be very nice.

(i see so many people that want to do teamwork in the forums but everyone in game starts shooting instant ^^)

This is a "small part" of a bigger idea, You said something about towns with electricity can't spawn zombies..

I love the idea of being able to use a jerry can on a generator and power a city. That way people won't be complaining about "Night Time" because cities will have lights in them, and forests will still be scary as fuck and require flares or chemlights.

People will huddle in cities at night, and then venture out on their own if they are risking it.

If someone finds one of those small towns with a generator off in the distance, they could power the generator, and have bed and breakfasts?

Agree, cities would become a comfort zone for players at night, but the woods would have to require some kind of threat, I think rocket said something about roaming hordes a while back ;)

I really like the overall ideas. Any macro-objectives that encourage larger group-work are a big yes in my opinion. The benefit of having lights is reward enough, and servers with lights would be more popular at night. Substations should need to be switched on individually, and it provides an extra use for that M136 - bandits being ultra-dicks and taking out the lights in a town before hunting. Also, lights can be individually shot out in this game, so it reintroduces that element. I also think the lighthouses should be part of the grid, if they aren't already, would add an extra stealth challenge along coastal regions. Sound idea indeed.

I don't know if anyone said this, but power could be used to introduce all new items like walkie talkies and computers.

I wouldn't mind communicating with a friend across the map on walkie talkie.

not sure if it was suggested yet, but there should be some ways to ahve the system ""break down"

not sure if i like the "upkeep" idea, but there could be ways that require the system to be brought back up after a failure.

some ingame things already:

weather/lightning strikes

zombie attacks

player sabotage

imagine a whole group of players in a town at night, then all the power dies... they would freak the fuck out... then zombies could begin spawning in town. the breakdown of civilization can begin anew, until the problem is remedied.

or... bandits could coordinate an attack, where they sabotage the power station, killing the lights just before they swoop in and raid a town with nvg.

They use batteries, so would be silly to attach it. Anyway, the radio concept is already WIP. Look up ACRE mod.

Anyone else noticed that Military Flashlight now shows the type of batteries it uses? (2xD size?) :)

A charger would be cool too, but lets start with the basic framework like the power grid.

Portable generators would be great too.

I think having a powergrid to light up towns would be great, but make it challenging to complete. This would add teamwork elements on both the survivor/bandit sides, and would give some reprieve to the night issues people have, just stick to towns.

But every benefit comes with danger, zombies are attracted to both the power stations, and the now lit up towns. Maybe have random horde spawners that go towards lit up towns, increase zombie spawns in lit up towns, increase sight range of zombies in lit up towns, just add tons of dangers to it.
