Electric and Natural lighting's V 4.0

Recommended Posts

i would like to see this happen so much because then we can have the NVGs and flashlights go dead so you need to recharge them and people will need to turn the light on no matter which side, just those who want their flashlights and nvg to work again (i would say spawn them empty if this electrical option is available)

grog/Bullfrog--

Both make great points. However, in a game like this, there is no "electrical engineer class" or "combat infantryman" class. While a 'normal' person (e.g., white collar office worker or some such profession) would have little idea how to fix a major power plant, or fire an M4, the game abstracts that part. So, a 'survivor' has whatever skills the player brings in, etc.

Having said that, it is also worth considering who would the actual 'survivor' be. On another thread--where a player wanted police-type uniform skins for 'good' survivors--I noted that most likely the people to survive are those in uniform. Military, police, EMT, etc., or blue-collar types (electrical linemen, etc.) with skills. Suzie from HR is a Zed, so is Ralph the day trader. It's Bill the cop, or Bob the soldier or Jim the guy in the power truck who most likely lives.

i think that is not true, cops soldiers are front line in such breakouts and would mostly be screwed, farmers and small village people would most likely survive the first days city dwellers and first responders would probably be far and few.

unless they collectively pull out at such a moment but that is a doom scenario

then there is the way of contagion, if it is airborne then it is just those who are out of the winds and or naturally resistant, food contagion is who goes where for food, no real possible pre position on who would survive the first days.

uniforms are those in harms way so also the first to get infected,

example.

guy calls 911 on a dirty man in worn clothes making a ruckus out side on the mall parking lot,

police come and find some one bitten and see the dirty man in worn clothes, call in the the paramedics, maybe more police assistance, figure out the rest as it escalates beyond control. they would not shoot the man on sight at first , there has already been contagion on site and who knows the incubation time.

second thing is that civilians can figure out the point and shoot things with ease, and not all are stupid and dumb, i guess most can figure out a lot of things when time is pressing not all people are as stupid as the idiots we see on TV reality shows, then there is a large army of civies who do maintenance work and other technical crafts.

Truth of the mater is that infected would never kill M1 Abrams, F35 jets, Bradley IFV etc.

Hell they have a hard enough time breaking in to a car little lone a tank!

I think you both are right through. If tanks where not a factor, People with skill sets have a better chance of surviving, but people with skill sets will also be on the front lines and that's a toss up if they survived that or not.

Either way Isn't my idea awesome ;)

Signed.

Though I think the small "blue" should feed for a night with one jerry can, and power plants would require a lot of work.

Simplifying to "No maintenance except fuel/coal/whatever" and the initial repair would be nice.

Also, I want to fight zeds, under a stormy night, in a small village with flickering lights.

Regarding 2.5:

It's strange how the scrap is little compared to the consumption for a big thing like that. A bigger initial need, but a smaller maintenance (Like 4/3 hours) would be, in my opinion, better. For the "attracts lots of zombies", I was thinking of a big amount of zeds spawning in the closest covers in packs and approaching preset paths, charging in when they see someone. This would make a mini event for repairing. Random packs of 5 would appear nearby after the initial wave has been defeated and approach.

For town generators, I think that 15 minutes is a bit small for a full jerry. it isn't a high enough "reward" for the work needed. A bigger town like Cherno might need two town generators, like half of the map with one generator. Or one for the docks. Things like that. Still, I think a jerry should feed for at least half an hour. That's kind of the time needed to clear a whole town. i don't think those should have a radius, but a predetermined area it is connected to.

Not really fond of the portable generators, or they should be kind of like a vehicle, except it slows the character. Sort of like the bikes: You drag it. These still make a big amount of noise. For the bother though, they are less efficient than road flares though, so I don't know...

I had a head ache when re editing it, thanks for pointing out that it needs polishing, I'll get on it when my head feels better ;)

as far as the town generators go, I'm talking about the Big blue generators, they are static and can't move (build in to the map)

and portable generators is my less favorite, I just put it in there to see what people thought. Through it dose take up 6 spots, and then it needs a Jerry can witch takes up 3 more slots. i think it's squared away on that front ;)

To further what i was thinking by the way, (and a shameless bump, i love the idea) I think all lights should flicker at the same time, not just the ones in the outskirts. It's how electricity works!

For the blue generators as you call them, I still think they should have a preset area to feed. Flipping a switch is going to light predetermined lights. Same for a generator. i believe that only street lamps should work though, and if you want to get in houses in a lit area you'll still need your blowtorch.

yeah, the portable generators are more of a handicap. What I was saying is that, whatever the way you bring them, they'll still be inferior to throwing red lights in the streets: Quite a hassle. And I don't htink they'd be that useful anyway, even for organised groups, apart from a way to draw zeds around.

I feel that the maintenance doesn't need much, since it's already working.

I think it should require little items, but it requires maintenance more often.

Also I meant to add, If they are not maintain properly, it breaks and you have to repair it again.

The fuel is like that, because it will be easier to get fuel from the towns. most towns have fuel and a town generator in it.

Also I moved the portable generator to a Backpack slot, I'll increase the range of it too.

This idea has 'some' merit, even though, I'd rather see other features first. Running a power plant would be probably the least thing I'd go for.

However, as long as night time darkness and especially gamma "using" aren't fixed, there is really no need for electricity. HDR and Gamma on max and I can see well enough.

The beauty about this idea is that it's not about what you do.

It's about other people doing it, I don't think i'll ever repair a power plant since I play more lone wolf style. It's about the unkown factor rather or not other players are going to do it.

You don't know if lights will be on or off, will one side of the map have lights? Will they turn on while you're sneaking threw a town.

will your settlement have lights provided for you or will you have to power up a local generator.

It provides so much dept to the game.

But I speak as someone who doesn't turn gamma up. I personally think that is cheating and should be fix ASAP.

love the idea hope they put a small purtable gen where you can go into a house and power up just that house would also like to see where we can get keys to houses and beable to lock the boors to keep unwanted people out of it

How can it be fixed? People can change gamma out of game in video/monitor controls.

I'm not really sure. through it is cheating!

I know if my idea was in placed, Having lights on will make the screen unbearable with Gamma/brightness on through

I like the idea of powering buildings with portable generators but running a power plant and an electric grid is a bit unrealistic. I've worked on the mechanical side of a plant before and I cant imagine a random assortment of people being able to start a boiler plant.

Now if you do want to power a small town maybe a larger truck mounted diesel generator could be used. In real life they are reasonably simple and we can just ignore the electrical connection mechanics. Larger portable generators could still offer much of what you were initially talking about.

I don't see a group of random assortment of people rebuilding a helicopter either.

The game is based on authenticity not realism.

Shameless bump.

And again, it's not jsut the outer circle that flickers, but the whole network. Sometimes, the juice drops a bit, but all over the network, especially with small (blue) generators.

Maybe some lights permanently broken go in and out.

Can we have lights that blink (like failing) in some areas/places? It would add to the atmosphere, I think.

for those who don't see a group of random people work together and fixing things in real life, please get out of the chair and go outside, go to a pub where working class people go and find a mechanic or maintenance guy / gal to talk to and find out, in my circle of friends i got guys who build their own trucks and motorcycles, guys who do their own electrical stuff in their houses and such, why does any one think tinkering is difficult in a world where a lot is up for grabs and no legal enforcement who says this is not save enough, you need to add airbags etc..

there are other hobbies than gaming and internet porn....

Bump again.

On a related note: Making torches recharge in lit towns.

Some "dynamo" lights should be a very rare loot and not need any recharge (manually done).

These idea's are allready in the OP

Also i don't mind the bumps ;) But don't do it so often, give other suggestions a chance to shine as much as this one has

If you're going to bump, do it less often if you don't mind. Thanks

I don't have alot of suggestions and I don't want to be hogging the top, I'm sure you understand lol
