Stable Update 1.19

Forgive my lengthy absence. I've been working around the clock for weeks over at Turn 10 Studio to ensure that the vehicle simulation and net code regarding vehicle performance is running optimally for the upcoming Forza Motorsport release. I have a few minutes to correct some of the misconceptions that are circulating on this forum by a handful of misinformed know-it-all's. I am pleased to say that Forza is operating butter smooth with a server side net code implementation for maximum security. It really is possible to have the best of both worlds when you know what you're doing. With a PhD in Computer Science and over 20 years of specialization in programming racing games for some of the biggest most respected studios out there, it is safe to say I am the authority on this message board and that I know what I'm talking about.

DayZ devs were not wrong to make the decision they did, putting cars server side. Hackers will make cars a death trap with incredible ease with a client side solution. This was evident in the old DayZ and the developers chose wisely. Nobody in their right mind would want that experience while enjoying DayZ vehicles. There are a few hooligans on here that think the DayZ devs have done a poor job on the vehicle simulation and net code for DayZ, but this couldn't be further from the truth. Their work actually rivals that of some of the top multiplayer racing sims on the market today, and I know because I've gotten my hands dirty polishing a few of them. Most of the videos these casuals are posting are issues that arise from heavily modded servers on poor hardware with poor networking and irresponsibly modified server configurations. Throw in some reckless driving and it is a recipe for disaster. It really is a case of "isolated incident" whereby they cherry pick extreme examples of malfunctioning DayZ vehicles on YouTube to confirm their pre existing biases without much or any concern whatsoever for objectivity.

So I'll set the record straight. Both the net code and vehicle simulation programming for DayZ Standalone are some of the best that the gaming industry has to offer. It really is atypical to see a game that does not specifically specialize in racing with some much hands-on love put into optimizing vehicle performance when it is not the main priority. The 1.19 update has thankfully resolved some lingering issues that we commonly see even in dedicated racers. I won't say it is perfect, but pretty close! I will admit that I prefer my work on Forza, but hey, this is what I focus my energy on full time for a living. My words of advice for the whiners on here: get a decent connection, get some decent hardware, and run a full pop vanilla server with a default config and no mods that bloat the system. This is where you will see DayZ vehicles shine in all their glory, giving both the driver and passenger an impeccable gaming experience.

Alright, I hope this helped clear of some of the urban myths that have been repeated on here for quite some time. But I have to get back to work! Turn 10 intends to make the latest Forza Motorsport the greatest multiplayer racer on the market, and so I'm dedicating as much of my time as possible to ensure the net code and vehicle simulation operate together seamlessly. Shout out to the devs at B.I...you're doing a phenomenal job on DayZ, including the vehicle experience. I give it my official 2.0 seal of approval. I even enjoyed myself a drunken cruise around Chenarus on Christmas day. I must say, the drifting was phenomenal and the online performance was remarkably smooth!

So, I admit that I only got through half of your post...  It IS rather banal.  It's the same insipid trolling attempt you've been using for multiple accounts now.   Why not mix it up?

Would be nice if you could explain why the issues with cars in this game don't appear in other games then, along with how it is that modded servers can and have gone a long way to fixing the very same vehicle issues that affect the vanilla game?

I enjoyed my vacation, and then I cam back and read this:

Bile filled my throat at that point.  Trolls are stupid.  That's not an attack on anyone person, just a generic observation.

It's been a while since I posted. The Hummer brought me out of retirement.

Well... maybe I was too soon. That Hummer is so bugged it was dumbfounding. It's been 9 years since I first bought this game, and I'm beyond puzzled that the devs still have the chutzpah to release content that is game-breakingly bad. The transmission issues alone are grounds for an uninstall. Multiple times I got "stuck" in the roof while trying to exit the vehicle. I don't mind irremovable, indestructible tires... but yeah. Alas, I endured and hope they can figure this out. The game's core content, including the contamination zones and general PVE difficulty have never been better, so Kudos there. One last point about the Hummer - for the love of God, the storage needs to be bigger than the Lada. As difficult as it was for me to find one of these, imagine my surprise when I opened the boot to find a paltry Lada/Skoda-sized 300-slot inventory. Hopefully an easy fix.

Wish in one hand and poop in the other.  The hand that gets filled faster has your answer.  I don't allow the hummer to spawn on my server for the EXACT reasons you gave.  It's bad enough fighting space vehicles, transmission stupidity, and all that, and THEN add a vehicle with bugs where you can get stuck etc.  Just ridiculous.  We are still beta testing this game, and we all apparently love it as we keep returning for more!

None that I've seen, but there are PLENTY of OLGA's that have joined Space X!

Modders tried to exploit flying mechanics of olgas, and so they've created choppers! Basically olgas with rotors. Even with means such as these newly created monster is still as unpredictable as it was before. Meaning: no kind of chimera-programming will work. This game needs stability in every department. Cutting corners will not do.

hubris.png

I called that photo "hubris", because that's what it is. BI, you all wanted to make something big in this 2022? No amount of guns will ever make it happen. Livonia is a failure product. Events are not enough. And let's forget about this "vehicle simulation" progress. Already seen what that means. Major character controller changes and fixes? How about stairs? Any stairs will do. What about them? Are they still acting like usual? No change of pace, no difference for any kind of movement? Thought so.

I'm gonna leave here an idea for you. "Now that the winter holidays are approaching"..., your game still does not have proper winter setting available for admins to chose. The so-called "winter chernarus/livonia/..." mods are garbage. They always were and always will be. Modded winter is outrageously ugly and simple. It's a perfect target for you, BI, to exploit that demand. But - it can't be done half-assed like toxic zones were. Toxic zone mod is still better than your version difficulty&immersion wise.

Just had a delightful cruise in the Hummer and I must say, wow, the developers have really done it! Butter smooth operation, traction, and user experience all round. This was on a full pop server mind you. The unruly hooligans creating and circulating these hit-piece glitch videos are really being disrespectful to the developers who have worked tirelessly for years to provide a seamless driving experience to each and every DayZ player. I won't mention names because you know who you are and you know what you're doing. Anyone can intentionally produce glitch and bug propaganda if they corrupt the server config, add incompatible mods and purposely exploit rare quirks in the physics system that players will only very, very rarely encounter when playing normally. We're talking winning millions of dollars kind of rare. But hey, whatever it takes to get a little attention on the internet, right? I felt an ethical duty to speak up in defense of the wonderful developers that have done such an impeccable job with the vehicle simulation and net code in 1.19. They're being slandered in their own backyard by rioters who have yet to submit any substantive, rational claims about the state of DayZ vehicles. I've worked in the gaming industry as a vehicle specialist for multiple decades, so yeah, I really do know what I'm talking about.

Whoa, you should change your name the GaslightWarrior. The glitches are well documented and the only thing that appears to be a hit piece is your post pointing fingers at the rest of us. I've noticed from your post history that it appears to be your singular purpose to come into this forum and make glowing claims about the state of the vehicles (and chastise anyone that has a different experience). Perhaps you're just a spoof account for a dev on the vehicle team patting your own back? Or maybe you're a tool from another game here to provide false reporting about the broken state of new content? Who would know? Maybe you should spend more time on the Forza forums where stable vehicle simulation might actually be the norm.

For the record, I was pretty happy with the hummer's driving characteristics..... when it would get into gear. Often the Hummer needs to be continuously restarted to allow it to get into gear (Drive or Reverse) and it appears to have something to do with the incline of the vehicle when fully stopped. Also, getting stuck in the roof is 100% server-side, and I only play vanilla unmodded servers. These are bugs, and should be addressed. We're not here just to pat backs, and the game needs feedback, not you.

I already told you who I was. I am one of the most sought-after programmers in the industry and specialize in vehicle simulation in a multiplayer environment. Ever played a dedicated online racer that was smooth and performed wonderfully? Chances are you're taking pleasure in my work. I think you need to practice your driving skills a little more. Not everything in gaming comes for free. If you want reward you need to challenge yourself. This means learning the controls and learning how to control the vehicle. That you can't keep 4 wheels on the road is not a problem with the programming or networking code, it is a problem with the man behind the wheel. That is why I don't face this problem. I've learned to master the vehicle. If you want to have my experience, you best follow in my footsteps.

I have a account named GamerWarrior already on my blocked list.... I just blocked this Warrior person........ kinda sus....I'd suggest ya'll do the same. It will go away for a while and then make a new account. Anyway, I don't have to read its idiotic posts anymore.

Please don't quote it either. Not worth your time.

Much easier to run away from the facts than to face them.

I think somebody is talking. But I give no fucks. Back to the normal discussion of how janky this game still is with out fake fanbois swinging from dev nuts.

You will go away again once enough people ignore you again.. And you are 100% the same person who I ignored last year, telling the same lies. Your posts are worded exactly the same. I have a feeling you got ignored by too many users here and you decided to try again. Sad.

You said you blocked me and now you're responding to my response after you blocked me, so clearly you didn't block me. Which means you're lying! Why should I trust a single word you say? You're making up things about who I am and what I did just to act tough on the internet because I dropped a truth bomb about DayZ vehicles. Sad.

Perhaps you should invest 2 minutes of your day figuring out simple forum software.

Or maybe use those two minutes to come up with some new material. Seriously, this is the same troll you’ve been using for a while now.  You claim to have outrageous knowledge of something then go on to explain how whatever is working perfectly. Like you’re defending BI for no reason.  Obviously facetious.  All the same trolls. Yawn mode.
