Make it possible to remove items from containers (i.e. clothes, med kits, backpacks, etc…)

Recommended Posts

Please make it so that you can adjust storage items without having to put the storage item in your hands, like it was prior to update 1.17. IMO 1.17 has made the game a lot less fun with all the tedious things needs to do to move things around. A lot of bugs with 1.17. Please fix immediately! I am spending a lot of money on a private server and it’s almost unplayable now, with all the glitches!

It makes perfect sense to have to take off you backpack to use what's inside. I'd even go one step further and make you take off your backpack before you can take anything out of it. That includes guns. The fact that someone can hide and smg or even a rifle and than take it out as quickly as a person who has in on their shoulder is ridiculous. Items that you want a quick access to would need to be stored in pockets or pouches.

I would agree with this

i cant agree more. the amount of heavy/big items we are able to carry (and have quick access to, even if stored in your backpack) is ridiculous.

Yeah, I hear ya… on the realism aspect, and whilst this game has many realistic things about it, it’s still just a game with many unrealistic things as well. For instance: eating/drinking with a mask on, crafting a gun suppressor from a plastic bottle and duct tape or stashing an M4 in your pant’s pocket; all of these things aren’t realistic.

I commented on a feedback post about this too. We used to be able to quickly organize inventory — but now it’s painful. Plate carrier pouches are rendered useless, stowing anything inside a container within your inventory won’t allow quick actions anymore such as swapping magazines by holding Y-Button.

If we want to get more realistic, then slings for long arms should be added for again, we shouldn’t be able to stow massive items in our pants, shirts, jackets etc…

Bohemia Interactive wants to push inventory management and staring at the inventory UI.  Obviously.

But inventory management is broken, they need to fix all issues before making it more strict by doing the following:

  • Fix Buttpack so survivors can actually use it when attached to Assault Vest
  • Fix Plate Carrier Pouches, if a holster is attached to plate carrier pouches don’t work
  • Fix magazine reload animation when holding Y-Button to reload, for 50% of the time it doesn’t work, this bug got me killed in a firefight today because my weapons wouldn’t swap magazines
  • Allow the option to easily rearrange inventory within a container, tent or article of clothing
  • Add option to arrange in ascending or descending order within a container by type, weight or size
  • Fix de-synching issues completely

Don't forget it's supposed to be a game, not a grind. The only mechanics that should aim for realism are those that improve the enjoyment of the game, anything that is tedious and repetitive albeit realistic should be sent packing.

To be honest the only thing that is even bordering realism in this game is the scenery anyway.

This and the excess of inventory slots (stuff like Baby AK in a Hunting jacket... like really?) are my 2 gripes with the inventory (aside from bugs and stuff...)

Backpacks shouldn't have the ability to hotbar items, at least if you ask me. Now the other points like: removing the backpack... idk, I guess I would be fine with it? but probably a lot of people wouldn't.

In real life if i have a backpack full of stuff i'm able to put it in a car or some kind of storage area like a tent without removing all the contents first. I could also leave it well hidden in a bush in the middle of nowhere and expect to come back to it a week later and find it still there. It certainly wouldn't just strangely disappear after a set amount of time. That kind of realism would no doubt make the game more entertaining... but you'd rather the tedious realism of putting a bag down and pulling everything out to find anything? Maybe all the loot you pick up should have to pass through your hands before it can be stored too? That'd be fun. Don't forget to set your bag on the floor before you try and put that dried apple inside it, and put your gun down too before you pick up the apple. Imagine the excitement of doing the entire thing in reverse when you get peckish!

Unfortunately in real life, my bag when full, doesn't tell me what is in it at a glance. Unlike in Dayz i have to dig through it to find what i'm looking for. Although if it did by some magic keep me instantly informed of its contents i'm pretty sure it could work that same magic so i could quickly access them too 😉

It's a game balance thing. You simply should not be able to insta draw a Mosin out of a backpack and shoot in a second. That's what we're talking about. Needing to take your backpack in hands just to do the regular inventory tetris is just annoying without really adding anything of value to the gameplay - but blocking players from hotbarring items carried in a backpack would make gameplay sense.

Anyway - I think this whole topic comes from someone playing on modded servers - from some quick testing just now I can say there is nothing wrong with buttpacks or platecarrier pouches, items in them are as accessible as ever. I suspect a mod like "HardcoreBackpack" or similar might have broken with 1.17 and is causing various inventory issues with attached containers.

I have struggled with the pouches/holster issue, plain annoying. No matter what item in the pouches i highlight it pulls out the gun from the holster.

That's also a thing they need to consider in changing.

Empty clothing items (backpacks and such) should be able to be "folded up" where they take less space but can't carry anything or opened up where they can carry stuff, but they take more space.
Folded "out" backpack should take more space than it's max storage slots.

Let's say you find a 42 slot backpack. Folded up it should take less slots when stored, but have no slots available in it.
But "folded out" it should take more space (ideally depending on how stuffed it is + minimum size when it's folded up, but I don't think that will be possible with the slot system).

Oooh wait, that sounds like it might be a console specific issue then. I'd say it is not intended in that case.

Console?

I have experienced some funky stuff as of recent on PC regarding inventory.
Certain containers being closed by default, and resetting upon login. I don't get why clothing items even have close/open feature to begin with.

Yeah, the fact you must empty a bag to put it in a container is really stupid. I simply cannot believe there is no better way to prevent infinite container stacking. Logically an empty backpack should take up X space in the inventory, but once it is carrying some items it would take exactly as much space as it can contain (like e.g. protector case or cooking pot). That's not rocket science in my eyes, I wonder why they just won't do it like that.

^ yeah. Imagine being able to store or carry 'grab bags' that contain specific items for specific missions. Base building? A grab bag with hatchet, saw, nails, wire, codelock. Base raiding? Grenades, gun, rounds, IV bloodbag. Doing some recon? Ghillie suit, food/water, radio and hunting scope. Hitting a toxic zone? Well you know the score. Grab bags would be a great gameplay addition.

It has some easy gestures that need to be made more difficult. As time and years pass, there is progress.

Adding the ability to remove items from containers like clothes, med kits, and backpacks would enhance gameplay. It allows for better inventory management and customization. Developers, please consider implementing this feature to improve the user experience

We plan to ship our belongings later this year using a small Movecube that we are considering purchasing from Sevenseas, and I was just wondering if anyone could offer some tips on how to pack specific items. I know it's early, but I wanted to try packing as soon as possible so we can determine how much space we have and whether we should upgrade to the medium-sized one or not.

A game is what you make it to be (to the margin of the systems possibilities).

Are you talking about your own subject threshold of the enjoyment of a game's mechanics?
Because If I designed a game and described it in its official website as authentic and unforgiving to come visit its forum and be a witness of this kind of attitude that you have here then you'll be the one sent packing with your damned money.
