So...what do you guys do after playing awhile?

I have around 24hrs played time currently. Initially, I struggled to survive and get gear, but I think I've figured that part out. Now I'm kind of at a lost on what to do. I've basically been doing laps around the map killing anyone with a backpack and/or a gun, which was fun at first but it is getting a little dull. So what do you do?

 

also, anyone know how to store stuff long term? I've heard of tents and barrels, but I haven't found any. I also tried burying items but I think they despawn within a few hours. Am I wrong about that?

All I can say really is your own imagination is your only limitation on how you play dayz (and the state of the game and servers of course) 

Try different style of play. Play a banit shoot first ask questions later. Play the hero and hunt down bandits. Escort new spawns off the coast. Most importantly interact with other players listen to their story and continue from there. If someone has recently been killed in a nearby town make it your quest for revenge? It's up to you what you want to do. 

Tents are not yet in the game. If you bury items it will stay there for around 43! Days persistent through restarts.

The problem with tents and barrels is that they stay on the server that you’re playing on, they don’t follow with you from server to server. Considering how volatile the servers are at the moment it won’t work very well. Plus I don’t think they are ingame at the moment.

This is one of the main reasons why people like to have private servers on DayZ, besides having an entire map worth of loot to yourself and friends.

As far as what I do when I am fully geared? I am currently just traveling the map and going to the places I haven’t visited, having 5 canteens and 4 protector cases full of bacon makes it easy to just walk around and explore.

I also like to sit on tall hills by spawn towns and pretend I’m Lee Harvey Oswald every now and then...

As others said, tents, base building, all that, are not in the game yet. Basically do what @TangoEckhoXBL said and just use your imagination. Find a sniper and sit above a town and act like you're one of the worlds best snipers, invincible, even. Go kidnap people and put burlap sacks over their heads. LOL. Act like you're the red cross and give food out to people who just washed up on the nasty zombie ridden paradise you're on. Heck, get deep into roleplay if you can find another person to do it to (Probably much easier on PC tbh) this game right now doesn't necessarily have that base building "end game", so you kinda just have to make your own end game for now.

Pretty fucked up killing people unless they are a threat. Maybe try making friends and work together. They’ll be adding more features. That’s DayZ though. If you lose interest, go play play Pubg or something. I’m still enjoying after 24+ hours and i rarely find a soul.

Mindlessly killing people who could have a story to tell is pretty low tbh, i'm all for being a bandit every now and again but only to the people that point guns at you for no reason.  Good advice in this thread, personally i like to help anyone i come across, i usually have a full vest of food and drink to give out or even point newbies in the right direction for water pumps etc.

Yeah...not much else to do really.

Too bad the focus is based around this instead of exploring and learning new things.

I always wished for a game world like this one without the dragons, trolls, swords and magicians. Now i got it...but it's ruined by eating and drinking every 15-20 minutes.

But i guess i have to keep looking.

I'm waiting until I can actually favorite a server and then I'll find a city and a house to settle in before I start hoarding. I plan on opening up a store. Beware ur stuff might end up for trade if u act up ????

I've just been exploring.  When I got back on after they brought servers back up today, I sadly lost everything I had in my inventory, even though I hadn't experienced that prior to them going down..  At any rate, I met someone who immediately turned and attacked me with a machete.  I had my splitting axe in hand, so I killed him.  Apparently I must have been bleeding out and didn't pay attention so as I was looting him, I died..  Now I know.. heal first, then loot :)  

Current character I've just been exploring.  I decided I'd make my way towards a military base to check it out.  I imagine I'll get killed, but that's ok, It really isn't so bad starting over. 

I also have tried some of the various things you can do.  I've killed chickens and cooked them.  Same with a goat.  While there is a lot we can't do, there is a lot we can do so might as well experiment.  Hopefully more people realize attacking someone on first sight doesn't really make the game fun.  I'd much rather see what someone I meet needs and share.  Once I get going, my inventory is always full.

I've got three characters currently in different parts of the map. I'm trying to use one as a mule to meet up with a buddy/my other tags thats carrying guns/ammo/bacon. I only move him on low pop servers and not very far since they usually fill up quick lol. My second dude is more of a serious account trying to get the most out of Day Z by  exploring everywhere, trying to craft different stuff, cook ect ect. I'm not looking to just out right kill people but obviously have to defend myself since everyone just wants to fight.

Then there's my most frequently played character lately who I call the "Berezino Butcher" lmao. I mule AR's/SMG's and ammo to him through a buddy with my main account then just stalk/kill/make human steaks out of people in spawn towns lol.

You're doing it wrong. You should be looking for attachments for your guns. Maybe ammo. After 4 hours I'm usually in full army gear, 2 guns with plenty of ammo and mags, attachments, plenty of food and a canteen. Then looking for PvP in the northern towns. Read some redit posts. Watch some YouTube videos. The games been out 5 years, there's plenty of help out there.

So you gear up for 4 hours and head North to pvp fight?

No... I head north as soon as I spawn, looting food drink a bag and melee weapons on the way, when I get to north airfield and the army base that's when I start looting my armour and weapons and attachments.

After 30+ hours I opened the radio on first channel (87.8 i think), ran for hours and climbed mountains trying to get some broadcast. So I climbed to the top of an antenna, located on the top of this cool mountain and after like 10 minutes I started to hear loud static noise, dunno if it was a bug, but it sounded like someone is talking but all u hear is loud white noise.

Then, I wanted to "think big", and dragged large batteries in my Alice backpack across town to power up some PA's to scare people but cant put the batteries in.

So now I'm recruiting my friends to join DayZ, nothing else to do for now, except for dancing with the wolves (which are amazing, especially how they surround you, Respect - BI)
