cornflakesx 3 Posted August 14, 2016 Guys tommorow is my b-day and i told to my father that i have problems with DayZ (FPS DROPS) and he researched and told me that i don't necesary need to upgrade my grapfics card or proccesor or the ram cause he said that he reserached and said that most people fix they problems with FPS drops with SSD so he said that he will both it for me. Im wondering will it actuality help me? (stop my fps drops?) and have better gameplay?
Killawife 599 Posted August 14, 2016 No. But its still a good upgrade for your computer as loading times will decrease significantly with Dayz and every other game or program on your computer. But it wont stop fps drops, its a game problem even guys with monster computers have.
Red_Ensign 990 Posted August 14, 2016 ssd drives do help maybe a bit with game performance, but mostly just help reduce time in loading screens (when the hard drive is being accessed heavily). so the answer is it probably won't help much. I have an ssd and still get huge drops. the game just isn't optimized.
Just Caused 423 Posted August 14, 2016 Don't listen to others. It helped me SO MUCH. First, loading times are very very short and second, game runs better by 5-10 FPS all the time.
sneakydude 480 Posted August 14, 2016 (edited) 2 @ ssd mirror raid is nice with solid state. It does improve over sata drives. I recommend learning how to mirror you drives. Do the samsung evo pro drives because they are the top of the line. 256gb or better, the prices have been dropping. Review articles like this what raid you may want. Gaming systems, with sata drive backups are nice with raid -0 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_RAID_levels#Performance Example from the article Some benchmarks of desktop applications show RAID 0 performance to be marginally better than a single drive mine are doubling the speed of the ssd over 1000 for read and 700ish for write, but those are approx, i would need to review the old tests i did. I am forgetting. some sata 3 drives will be 170ish. ssd is 550/550 + in some cases. Edited August 14, 2016 by sneakydude
Brokenbones 62 Posted August 15, 2016 A better graphics card and faster CPU will improve game performance. Installing a SSD drive will improve performance for the computer in general, faster load times etc. You will possibly see a slight improvement in fps (5-10 max) due to faster texture loading but only if your CPU/GPU are able to follow. It would be useful if we knew the computer specifications, including CPU/GPU ram and operating system. Installing a SSD is a major upgrade and well worth the investment. Happy Birthday ! St. Jimmy 1631 Posted August 15, 2016 Not sure how much it could help you in DayZ and it also depends what your CPU and GPU are. But I can say it's worth it alone. Windows fully booted under a minute is a big thing.
sneakydude 480 Posted August 16, 2016 actually anything that runs the same or better then gpu - cpu to stream line a -------------------- flat read and write is always a good thing. anything that reads and writes faster or has that ability to is good for the future. Anything that reads and writes slower then your gpu-cpu ability is going to crap out, bottleneck and cause random hick ups. So why wouldn't a SSD be a huge performance increase? it maybe over kill for some, but benefits other reasons. Taken from my CNC repairs.
JBURNS489 165 Posted August 16, 2016 A Ssd is a great upgrade no doubt about it, but it will only help gaming performance in a very limited scope. Mostly just loading screens will be shorter. The majority of game's rendering is done with your Cpu and GPU. You may notice a slight fps improvement, especially in open world games like dayz, but it will be barely noticeable. The CPU reads the game's programming and decides to either follow the command itself or send it to the GPU for processing. It will first read aka load the required files on your hard drive, and then process and render the image into the game you see and play. A SSD will load the data required by your grqphics card a lot faster, but it will still only be able to process it at at the same speed as before. To really upgrade gaming performance, your best bet is usually to upgrade your graphics card.
