HaseDesTodes 315 Posted March 11, 2016 i don'T know if thats up to date, but i often met a bunch of cows at the "river" north of grishino. i think like to go east from there, sometimes into the forrest south of devils castle. maybe check it some time and, if true ad it to the map.

I've been checking this area for the past couple days, and haven't seen that herd of cows. I know that I remember seeing them in that field between the creek and the hill numerous times. I've learned that canvassing an area where I think there should be some game, is less effective than just keeping my eyes open while going about other business. It seems that opportunistic hunting is the more viable approach for me. Every time I try to do a sweep of an area that I think there should be a herd of deer, I come up empty. When I go looking for pigs and boars, I'll either see nothing, or a chicken in its place. It appears that the "DayZ Loot Corollary to Murphy's Law," also applies to animals: When you go looking for a specific thing, you are likely to be disappointed; if you just wander around with no specific purpose in mind, you will find untold riches. Where players would be more likely to find them . ie : near towns , along the Heli crash routs and so on.. Which is the exact opposite of what I would probably have done. At Least with larger game like deer. I would have placed out in the barren deep forested areas and way up north. Forcing people to take time away from the loot grind to actually go hunting for a days or two's worth of food. You know...that's exactly what I think when I come across wildlife as well... In real life game trails and browsing meadows usually exist beyond the normal areas of human interaction, and yet the devs chose these areas to spawn game. The dev team "should" know this or they "should" have at least consulted someone who has experience tracking/studying wildlife. Spawn locations and pathfinding are easy to modify so I can only guess they did indeed choose the current patterns just so we can bump into game more easily and because of this we would be encouraged to test hunting/tracking skills

Deer and such that move into towns to feed on gardens. Released Domesticated animals that have no fear of people . I would assume that the hordes of infected , violent , and gun toting psychopaths would have chased everything off into the woods and fields further aways from towns and populated areas by now. The Devs artistic direction confuses me with the visual representation of the suspected timeline of events going on here in cherno . On one hand you have fresh fruit still sitting in a kitchen , chickens in the yard ,Helis crashes still smoking .. hinting the Events of the Apocalypse took place within the last few weeks... Then on the other hand , you have Wolves moving into urban areas ( eventually) massive rusty ship and car wrecks..Cities void of all life, all utilities shut down.. hinting at months or maybe years gone by.. Either way once modding is implemented , I plan to make at least one map that makes sense. In regards to animals. I do hope that once predator Ai comes into play. They tweak some of our current animals to be a bit more aggressive. Such as Wild hogs and Bulls . They really should at least charge at you if you get too close.
sneakydude 480 Posted March 13, 2016 (edited) Hope that helps, the direction or WIP report on what you seek. Edit= then maybe you can take some of that code and shape what is lacking. Edited March 13, 2016 by sneakydude
pilgrim* 3514 Posted April 5, 2016 Hey Zurvivalist - good work, Beanz I have a little idea - so I'll add it in here, maybe you or other hunters will pick up on it ? Because there are general locations where different animals spawn - how about one or two animal spoor in those locations ? This is only one extra texture to add in to the scenery ... a few hoofprints on some area of bare ground, that's all. This would indicate that you are in a LIKELY game location. - and if you knew your hunting craft a little, you'd know what animals to expect. The presence of spore could even be related to an actual spawn event.. so you'd know animals were actually in that area right now, or about to turn up soon, somewhere in that region -But if they spawned or not, I'd be really happy just to see three or four prints and know I was somewhere near a possible animal location, xx
