Side Chat ?, the game feels like a ghost town.

Recommended Posts

I cant be the only one who is playing on 30+ man servers all the time and feeling like the place is a ghost town, my last session lasted 6 hours on a full server, during which time I didnt see a single player and my character only died at the end of the 6 hours by a single gun shot, no warning no hint of danger and in a really odd place as well.

My sessions are going this way more and more, the worst was the life before that one I just lost and it lasted between 19 and 24 hours with those hours spread over 3 days each with solid play all put in on full or near full servers and I still didn't see a single soul, that guy died through zombie attack I got gliched in a door way and couldnt move while the zed was able to kill me..

The game feels dead, and we all know its not, there are 39 other people on this server and unless they happen to be friends and playing in a small group the player interaction is terrible.

If you bring back Side chat voice only, and allow server admins to toggle it on or off then those of us like me who want it can get it and those who preffer feeling like thier playing single player can still do so.

That perceived solitude is a big part of the game. It's supposed to feel empty, that's what makes meeting a person so exciting. If you don't like that, maybe try Rust or some other game. The radio communications systems that are coming soon are intended to fill this role to an extent (of course in a more realistic and immersive way), but honestly I doubt people will use it. No one even used it in that experimental patch when we spawned with a walkie-talkie. Edited by OnionOfShame

That is because the 38 people sadly are running around Cherno in front of the police station. I don't think side chat will fix the problem but now that they have that message toggle nonsense that used up time instead of .60 mabey they could add a side chat and if players didn't like it they could just turn it off like the messages. The MOD has it if you need it that bad. The only reason i liked it was because it killed the boredom when i was running up north i had people to chat with. It would be a nice option for private servers and players could choose to toggle it on or off.

P.S. Fix the fishing >:(

I feel like the longer I play this game waiting for content the more I walk down the dark path and simply play to kill others.

The sense of being alone is very strong - and it is compelling to meet another. But right now, without much else to do. . It's either kill each other, or team up with them to kill others.

No thanks to text.  A big hell no to voice.  If it was voice the admin would spend their entire day kicking children and idiots.  If it were text we'd be right back into the nonsense that ruined the mod a lot of the times where people would respawn and then give your position away in global.

Did have some Fun times in the Mod, with text I rode a pushy from Kamenka to Electro once, with the whole server shooting at me and my big loud Bell Ding Ding. I died and someone told me they buried me with my bike lol. But yeah I can see you're point

I never liked side chat.. dayz is the first game where i realized how much I dont need or want that at all in this game. As onion said above "That perceived solitude is a big part of the game" is absoloutley correct.. I use to find the side chat really killed the vibe and especially all that bullshit other text that would pop up in the bottom left corner of the screen that we all know and more than likely dont love ^_^

It looks tho Satchel is new to the game maybe with more time, patience and understanding you will over come you issue's Satch. Just be really careful

It does feel a bit empty. But since I decided to hang out near the coast this time (my camp is close by), I tend to meet/see more people in vehicles. All of which have fled in panic (even a bus), as I approached them. I usually have my own agenda in Dayz: gather, build camp, find car, go looting/kill bandits. But especially the latter has become hard to achieve, as not everyone is a bandit, but everone still shoots. The difference between a bandit and a regular player in Dayz is that Bandits shoot you in the head and legs and regulars shoot you everwhere. I've been through more sets of - now ruined - clothes than a fashion show model. Can't talk to anyone and there's not much to say, either. I have no need for trade and meeting others is just a risk for me. Having side-chat would feel more like a burden and people would just use it to complain. So I'm no big fan either.

I'd like to be able to send global messages to everyone on a Dayz-server though, so we can start our own events ingame (trading, duels, hunting group, etc.) That's what VOIP might become useful for, if they can make it work. I agree that nobody used the radios in the last build, even though we spawned with them. I hope for a more meaningful way to communicate ingame, but I think the radio is a better way to communicate than global chat. Hopes are that those people, who want to socialize will start using radios and the ones playing with Skype and with their friends don't.

I think you can aleady send global text messages using battleeye rcon. If you want some information pm me or look it up on  Google :)

So many topics are pointless unfortunately....

All non-local chat is immersion breaking.

I use 3rd party chat now (TS3) and I feel a little dirty doing it.

When we get more infected and scarcity, maybe people will have more varied interactions, with or without side chat.

If you really just want fire fights, may I direct you to the 1,000's of other games centered around that aspect, that do it better, and will cater to your limited time constraints.

Also, modding.
