Action in .58

Recommended Posts

Where is the best place for PVP at the moment? Me and my friends can't really find people as much as we used to and I was wondering where all the action is at in .58

Well I, personally, do not play DayZ for the PvP aspect. As a matter of fact, I greatly enjoy force-feeding bleach at gunpoint over camping with a Mosin on some hill.

That being said, the redesign of the map and redistribution of high-tier loot has taken focus away from the air fields. Is Balota still a hot spot? I never have any trouble finding server-hoppers there. You can also run a circuit between the crashed ship, the air field, the town near the air field, and the town near the ship. You can hit a hospital and a weapons cache with your choice of sticking for forest or the road. It's easy to navigate without a map/compass, there's great spots for hitting the road, and you generally only have to worry about people going ship-airfield-town or town-airfield (your left and right sides). If you're careful, you shouldn't get shot in the back. As a strictly solo player, I've found it to be both (relatively) safe and I can choose to focus on looting or player hunting as the whims take me.

90% of my experience with the SA is the north-east of the map, as you can imagine.

NWAF, Veresnik Military Base, Myshkino Tents, Lopatino, Stary Sobor, and Kabanino.

Myshkino Tents is where its at, I set up in the hills with my binos to do overwatch for my two comrades inside the city, one was shot and crippled within 5 minutes, killed a few minutes later by someone spawning in a tent behind him while he was applying a splint. Other friend bugged out. We have been watching it on several servers and doing hit and runs to see who we can kill and what loot we can get quick, every time we go there are at least 2-5 people within the tent city, 2-5 snipers on the east or west hills, and always people server hopping in to the outlying areas.

Its a whole lot of fun to go in there and cause havoc, we actually stole two trucks people thought they had hidden well earlier, they were not pleased.

NWAF, especially treelines surrounding the entire airfield. Lots of overly cautios "MLG L0n3 W0lF ApeX PredatoR" snipers up there enjoying their point and click mini game. You know who you are.

Myshkino Tents (See above) On the western hill, far up, overlooking the entire area. People will know the exact range across from testing. You are not safe anywhere in that area. Tree foliage will give you no cover when spotted from that distance.

Vybor base, Lopatino. Basically the towns surrounding NWAF, and the fields between the towns.

Sounds like someone got shot by a cautious lone wolf player who likes to take their time scouting an area to make sure they won't run into a squad of people or eliminate single threats. Just cause you like to run&gun doesn't mean you have to insult those who don't.

The advice you gave was good, just didn't need the insult.

I was merely poking fun at the opinion some people have, that the sniper is the top echelon of skill in FPS games. Snipers are a dime a dozen, It gets boring when everyone is sitting in a tree abusing the third person camera. Aint nobody got time for dat.

I play in a squad, i'm rarely dying to sniperfire because i'm not he point man, but thats besides the point.

Snipers camping in trees and far away hills, seem to be 2/3 of the encounters I run into, which is just boring. It is quite satisfying when you spot them and flank around to their back, but a good sniper wont be caught in this way. It's not scouting an area, it's flat out camping the same spots with overwatch on the same locations. They arent scouting out a location before they head in. They dont head in at all, because that would mean risking thier gear. They just sin in treelines. These players are typically overly cautios because they are attached to their gear.

Typical run & gun attitude you have there. You make a lot of assumptions about peoples motives and actions without knowing what they really did and for what reason. I'm not saying there are not people who camp spots and overwatch areas strictly looking for kills. I am saying there is more than just that motivation for why someone is sitting in the treeline watching an area.

DayZ isn't a fast paced FPS ala BF or CoD where the objective is to get the most kills in a set match or take an objective. So those standards and motivations really do not apply in general. Arma games are played on huge maps compared to those games ( http://i.imgur.com/AOsmMra.jpg ). Engagements are going to occur at greater distances as a result. More play styles also come into play given the large distances. Add to this the need to find gear/food/water and you get a good majority of the player base acting cautiously when moving into an area with a high likelihood of contact. For some this means waiting/scouting maybe a minute before moving in to a town or across an open field. For others it is waiting/scouting 5 to 15 minutes to make sure no one is around. Once infected get reintroduced with the new AI and greater numbers, a cautious play style will be even more needed to survive. If all you're looking for is close range engagements, then this might not be the game for you.

Ive been to the NWAF twice on full pop and not a person was there. And myshkino three times and found two dead guys and heard gunfire once. I seem to miss the party every time :/

Thrice now to the NWAF and not a shot fired. I did find a lot of loot from dead people though so it seems I just missed the action.

Settle down Timmy. You don't need to explain me the difference between DayZ and Call of Duty, nor do you need to explain to me the survival aspect of the game. Not quite a veteran yet, but getting there. I'm not running and gunning, but i'm certaintly not just prone on sniper hill above Vybor military base, waiting for people. It bores me having to spend 15 minutes looking for that guy taking pod shots at me from past 500 meters. It's just a lazy "low risk, high reward" playstyle. I like a good gunfight, even tho it can be frustrating in the current state of the game.

It kinda seemed the need for explanation was there.. Just my 2c but your posts in this thread also gave me the impression you had been beaten at DayZ by a sniper and were quite butt-hurt.

I use the term "beaten at dayz" to illustrate a point, that the game is not about crafting, sniping, assaulting, role-play or any other single approach or discipline. If a guy waits three hours in a bush and eventually manages to shoot you in the back and take your gear, or even just eliminate you as a threat and move on, then he beat you at DayZ because he is still alive and you are not (regardless what you spent the 3 hours doing). I find this the only way to properly view a sandbox such as this. Whenever i hear someone passive-aggressively mocking another play style i always wonder how many times the complainer has been "beaten" at DayZ by the play style in question..

Your bit about sniping being "lazy" just shows a lack of understanding of what goes into a good sniping strategy. The fact that it "bores you" to have to look for snipers doesn't make their play style lazy, it makes you lazy and is likely the reason you keep getting killed by them and have developed this stigma against the nasty snipers.

Reminds me of the anit-kos crowd.. this is exactly the strategy that would emerge imho..

And for extra info i also tend to run & gun, preferring the multi-role tactics i can get from an assault rifle.

You referred to DayZ as an 'FPS' game. It's not. He had a point.

Oh, and my real name is Tim - so abuse it all you like.
