Will single player support bandit AI?

Recommended Posts

I read somewhere that DayZ will get single player mode. Is it just for testing, or can I expect bandit AI as well?

No AI I would guess, exept for the undead.

I'd say highly unlikely.  There is always the possibilities of modders making them for single player and multiplayer.

My guess is that it'll be equivalent to playing on an empty, vanilla server (with support for the steam workshop.) The only AI will be animals and zombies, just like in the regular game.

As has been stated above, some inventive modders might create their own AI or do something along those lines but I wouldn't expect them to actually add anything new just for SP.

Actually Brian Hicks said recently there WILL be a SP version, with modders in mind and their ability to test their work more easily. Of course, the general public can then use it too.

He said it in this interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_aKwf4mMrRw&feature=youtu.be

I'm hoping for lan game capability too, sometimes I'd like to play with the kids without KOS a-holes and a ping of 2 instead of 500+.

They will release the server files, confirmed by Hicks. I don't see any reason why you couldn't run a local server on one of your machines.

Yeah, that's what we do to play arma 2 together. We host it on the laptop that has a better cpu, I'll even play warfare against the AI hosting it on the laptop while theyre using it to watch netfix and my game doesn't bog as bad as if I host and play on mine.

Why not bandit and hero AI on SP? It would be cool to create survivor scenarios. There were great missions and scenarios before DayZ was released. I think it was Chernarus Apocalypse. I saw few videos and it had great atmosphere, plus I love coop games. And, no need to pay for server.

With Arma 1-3 in mind, there are worlds between SP and MP scripting/modding. A thing that works flawlessly in SP doesn't need to work in MP (code-wise).

Well, maybe you should let Hicks and the dev team know. I am just repeating what they said :)

Actually they said it would be easy to convert the client into a local SP version, only minor changes would have to be made with a minimum effort from the dev team.

Because DayZ is and always will be a multiplayer experience.

By the sounds of things the "singleplayer" mode will effectively be an empty local server, intended for mod developers to test their work without having to run it on a dedicated server and will be made available to the general public because "why not".

I uderstood we will be able to play in LAN, if not earlier than after 1.0. I guess I was wrong.

I don't see why not. Like I said, this sounds like it's just an empty local server. I assume your LAN buddies would be able to connect via the server browser using your local IP.
