So.. when are we going to actually shoot people who aren't still?

Recommended Posts

One of the most glaring issues plaguing this game no one seems to care about (maybe because it was here since day 1) is the absolutely ridiculous inability for the client/server to report player position properly. You know what that is. Player teleports short distances. One second he's on one side of the wall, ooops nope, he actually was never where you saw him, took a shot? Too bad, now you've blown your cover.

It's extremely irritating how you can't shoot anyone except for people standing still because if for some reason they move you're just throwing those dice, putting on a rag over your eyes and hoping the stars are aligned and the server reports where the guy actually is moving.

Now, I know this game is on a big map and on some servers there's loads of people.. but, christ guys, on 10-20 man servers where there's just me and one guy in a  2 km radius, I expect to be able to shoot him from 50 meters if he's moving in a straight line.

I dont seem to have a problem with this.... Youre not playing on servers you have a bad connection with now are you xD

well to add to that: even if the OP has a good connection, his target could be a 400 'HPB'

so if killing people is your primary reason for playing , you would need to ensure you're on a server that kicks people with >150 (i made that number up) pings.

Very very true, thanks for pointing that out.

distance, ping, and running speed all play in on how the bullet will strike the target.

shooting at a distance of 100m or less, you can pretty much aim right on and hit a running target... anything else you will need to aim slightly in front... at 250+ it becomes very difficult to hit a target that is moving.

That's not it obviously. People teleport around all the time, watch any, ANY youtube video and people will spaz all over the place when moving. Case in point - watch this video at exactly 2 minutes:

That's what I'm talking about.

you could just not shoot people.

I don't. Unless they hold still.

+1 this isn't just a murdering players issue, desynch/lag is a massive headache on many High-Pop servers i have played on. zombie pop-in, Issues looting or managing gear, hit detection, etc. it effects many elements of the game not just shooting other players or 'sniping'.

The replies here are so typical of these forums, someone has a valid complaint about the game, something that definitely needs work, and the consensus is "you are doing it wrong, play the game my way"

This game is a shooter, it will always be a shooter, yes it has survival but the game is built around guns and fighting, not having people teleporting and skipping around the map is important. You don't know how many times I have been able to cheat and see the location of people because the server allowed their character to warp through a wall for two seconds when they were really just walking near the wall, I've even killed people while they were doing it and to them they never actually walked into my line of sight.

Lots of things to factor in here as afromentioned. Ping / Desync of you and your Opponent ect. ect.

Weird things happen like, i shoot someone, iam sure i miss, 5 seconds later he lays there bleeding. Sometimes ist really wonky. I do belive tho that it might get better over time.  Try to find lowping Servers.

I agree on this issue, the desync in general is way too unstable in this game. Even servers with less than 30 ping to my good connection will have desync at times.

This causes people to warp back and forth between where they are on their  screen, and where they are server side.

Have you ever been unable to pick up an item? This is because the connection between you client side and server side is bad. The server might think you are outside a building when actually inside.

Also have to comment on running speed and turn rate, cant wait till this gets tuned down a bit (only talking 15% speed decrease and we're good). Of course we'll need more vehicle spawns then

It's kind of a known issue in Arma games that the lagg and desync warps enemies and players around occasionally. Tracking AI and player positions has always been problematic. The question to me is if it just happens when the server is under high load or if it is a general flaw of the RV engines netcode.

The thing about Dayz is you have to learn to live with the flaws, just like in Arma. It's not going to change, or otherwise Bohemia would have managed to do so in their Arma games. I guess it is the payoff for having the largest and most detailed map in a competitive multiplayer game that I have ever seen. I expect the netcode to be improved, but I don't expect this to get fixed completely. It's difficult for an engine to display the action in real time, when 40 people on a server all have a different ping and different locations. I play on mid-population servers and rarely see someone glitching around like that. It does happen, the trucks are a good example of how player position and position on the map are not matched in realtime. Hopefully the new render will alleviate the problem a bit.

I swear I want to punch a baby every time I hear these kinds of lines. This is the time to voice opinions about stuff that simply doesn't work. This is a CORE issue that's been broken since day 1, and you're telling me I have to "live with the flaws"? Hate how complacent this community is.

The thing I linked in the video, did you see it? That's not some isolated case where you say "aw screw it, I got unlocky" - That's how 90% of the engagements are - if a player is moving, they WILL desync every 2-3 seconds. Yes I play on <50 ping servers. And Arma 3 I've played a lot, there was never a SINGLE time I've had someone spaz around like in SA, on a 60+ man server, on a MUCH bigger island.

Yup, I have this problem too. Tried to shoot a chap with a repeater. Perfectly lined up. Fire. He does the electric slide out of the way between me firing and the bullet landing. He only moved about half a foot, but it was enough. He then proceeds to leg it into the forest with all the loot.

Yes I've seen it and it doesn't happen to me, because I don't snipe people often. I do see myself rubberbanding occasionally; yes, it's annoying to me too :(  Seriously with Overwatch out and all its features it may be the better game for you. Arma 2 has had this issue and it got worse in Dayz, because houses are dynamic objects there; which is insane, really. The new renderer will cull these objects correctly, instead of calculating things you don't even see.

You complain about the community that supports their favorite game, really. I might as well tell you I want to punch a baby everytime someone complains about technical problems they don't understand. Arma 3 has a much smaller map than Dayz. And the Chernarus map they have in the mod is the old one (not Chernarusplus - no dynamic houses). So yes, you can complain, I do it too. Sometimes Dayz makes me wanna vent. But in the end this is the game I want to play more than Arma and any of its mods.

You have no idea what DayZ is about then do you?  It is a hardcore survival mod for Arma2 that did so well at it, Bohemia decided to hire the developer and build this stand alone game the same way.

DayZ is not built around guns and fighting, if you want that, just play Arma2 or Arma3.  DayZ is built around grueling, difficult survival against thirst, hunger, the elements and yes, other players.  But it was never envisioned as a PvP game.

But yes, I agree on your first sentence, the accuracy of reported player locations is not always accurate.  Then again, as the game gets harder as it nears its final product, the last thing players will want to do is get into a gunfight with anyone so....

Lower the movement speed, add stamina and the problem of teleporting and stuttering will be alot less apparent.

Combine that with hopefully network optimization and the problem should be gone in the long term.

Overwatch hasn't got anything to do with this, don't know what made you think that game is better than this because even if it is it's not the same thing.

I am complaining about the complacency of the community, who supported and paid up front for the game while a lot of the goals that were set are still running late, but is ok with everything. Yes, developing is a slow process, but I've never seen it move at such a snail pace, and I've alpha/beta tested games before the 2000s.

So let me get this straight - you are annoyed at me because I complain about technical problems that I do not (fully) understand? Might as well go punch everyone in the bug tracker, I'm sure a lot of people there do not understand why exactly the problems are happening. Bottom line - I don't need to understand the reason for the problem in order to make a case of it. The problem is evident and often determinable to the gameplay, which is an issue. I'm not venting, that's just how it is regardless if I'm mad or not.

In the same vein, whether or not you want to play this game more than any other arma title, or any other game for that matter, is also completely irrelevant to the topic at hand.

Alright, so you are a bit undecided aren't you? I thought you were complaining about the desync in Dayz, but no - you are really complaining about a "complacent community" - checked. I must have been wrong about the people here, because I thought this is a very critical and yet supportive community. And then there are people like you, who just make pointless posts that show they haven't the slightest clue about the technology or game development itself.

So you don't need to understand the reason why there is desync?! Fine, you just want to consume and complain. You cannot judge why there is desync - you just want it gone!? Then my mentioning Overwatch has everything to do with your post, as it is the game you want to play! Lots of weapons, kill on sight, no shakes, no desync. We are not a complacent community, I have been very critical of Dayz, but I give credit when its due.

I've long given up ever trying to shoot anyone. It's not through any kind of morals, it's just that I can't hit anything.
