What Type of DayZ Character are You?

Recommended Posts

Hello, hello.

Today we're going to do a little experiment to see what types of people populate the desolate land of Chernarus.

This isn't your average "survivor, hero, bandit" type deal either. It's quite possible you may fall under more than one category, or your playstyle may change in the future.

DAYZ CHARACTERS:

[Neutral] The Survivor: the remainder of a group of people or things.

We are all survivors at heart, but some people fit the description more than others.

A Survivor is someone who is crafty, witty and quick to think. They don't shoot on sight, but will kill if needed. Survivors tend to stay away from people if given the option, and will often be seen alone building a camp or looting a small town. Survivors don't run into open fields, but instead they tend to skirt around the edge of a forest until they reach their destination. Survivors know how to play the game, and they play it well. They usually don't carry much, and tend to wear clothing that blends with the environment well. The weapon of a survivor is something they trust with their life and know they can rely on. A good weapon of the survivor is the AKS-74u, as it's the perfect weapon for close-quarters encounters with zombies or players, the ammo is common, the range is decent enough to take out targets from a distance, and it's compact enough to put in a backpack or vest. Survivors won't fire a weapon unless they know the shot will hit and that no other zombies or players will be attracted to the noise. Of all the characters in DayZ, survivors are the most cautious, and will follow their own set of rules religiously, only breaking it in case of an extreme circumstance.

[Neutral Evil] The Bandit: a robber or outlaw belonging to a gang and typically operating in an isolated or lawless area.

A very misunderstood way of playing. Often mistaken for The Murderer

A Bandit is someone who will take advantage of somebody in order to gain their gear. Bandits will always work with one or more other people, and will hold up anyone who is unfortunate to cross their path. Bandits tend to set up ambushes in highly traveled areas, such as the road between Chernogorsk and Elektrozavodsk, for example. A Bandit does not kill unless their target attempts to run, is disobedient, attempts to kill, or is an asshole to the bandit. An often used banditing technique is to order the unfortunate victim, at gunpoint, to remove all of their clothes and step away from them so that the bandit may browse and choose what they want to take. While this is happening, another bandit will watch the person being robbed so that he does not attempt to run or fight back. Bandits often capture people for ransom or for cruel jokes. Bandits do not kill unless forced to.

[Neutral Friendly] The Hero: a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities.

Another misunderstood way of playing. Often mistaken for The Medic, or The Vigilante.

A Hero is generally the do-gooder of the apocalypse. They will give people food, medical assistance or even gear selflessly if they feel a trust between them and whoever they are helping. Hero's generally have a very good sense for the game, where places are, what to loot, who's bad, etc, and will gladly share their knowledge with others. Hero's are friendly and will only kill someone if they are forced to - even if they are shot at, they will usually give the person a second chance before killing them. A good hero knows who needs to die and who needs to live. A common misunderstanding that was popularized by the DayZ Origins mod, is that Hero's hunt and kill bandits. This is false. Hero's will be the first to help someone who is getting robbed by bandits, but they don't hunt them down like animals. If they did, this would make Hero's no better than a murderer, which is another type of character we'll see later. Hero's are also often mistaken for a medic, or as a pacifist who cries every time they die. Hero's are badasses who know what they're doing, are good at it, and know how to lose their gear. Hero's don't tend to survive long due to the multitude of backstabbers and murderers there are in the world, so they won't often have the best of gear. An SKS is a common weapon a Hero would use.

[Evil] The Murderer: a person who commits murder; a killer.

The most-used playstyle in DayZ, which nearly everybody despises, but ends up becoming themselves. An infection worse than the virus that turned people into zombies.

The Murderer is someone who will kill on sight for fun or fear that they themselves will be killed on sight. Murderers are very often found "fully geared", meaning completely loaded up on gear, armed to the teeth, with an AKM, M4, or any other weapon they can get their hands on. If it kills, they use it. Murderers are usually found killing semi-geared players in areas such as Berezino, Elektrozavodsk, or even Chernogorsk. They are also found peppered throughout the map, especially at military zones, waiting for someone to run by so they can kill them. Murderers are often called Bandits, but are nowhere near as merciful. Murderers shoot without thinking. They do not care how long you spent getting your gear, or if you'd like to give them a saline transfusion. Lots of murderers are created because other people have given up on being friendly and decide to kill on sight for their own "self defence". Few find killing enjoyable, and actually murder people for fun because it gets their blood pumping. Murderers are easily the most-played character in DayZ, especially for people who are sick and tired of dying. Murderers often capture people and force them to fight each other.

[Evil] The Backstabber: a person who betrays a friend, country, or principle.

A technique often used by The Murderer.

The Backstabber is a tricky little rotter who will claim to be friendly, then kill you at a later date. Often times a murderer will say they're friendly to get you to come out into the open so they can kill you easier. These people will often come across as any neutral or friendly person.

[Friendly] The Medic: a person who dispenses first aid to those who need it.

Something that guppy might have a better definition of. Often mistaken as a Hero.

The Medic is someone who makes it their goal to heal or help anyone they come across. Their favourite thing to wear is easily the paramedic uniform, and they will very often have tons of medkits, saline and bandages handy. They often don't carry weapons, but might to take care of zombies. Medics don't shoot someone unless they know they can fix them up afterwards.

[Neutral Friendly] The Vigilante: a person who takes the law into his or her own hands, as by avenging a crime.

Usually paired with the qualities of The Hero to create an awesome playstyle.

A Vigilante is someone who will hunt down bandits and kill them. Vigilante's don't usually help other people unless killing bandits is involved. A Vigilante can have many different sets of gear, but might usually look like a UN soldier. They take the law into their own hands by killing Murderers or Bandits. Vigilante's don't shoot people who are of no threat to them or others.

[Neutral Any] The Tourist: Also known as The Noob.

A new player still learning the ropes to the game.

The Tourist will often be found wandering around aimlessly, starving to death or being chased by zombies. They usually start off friendly but will often choose to be a murderer later on in their DayZ career.

[Neutral] The Outdoorsman: a person devoted to wilderness survival, using only the outdoors as their source of life.

A very hard way to play and perfect. Often called The Hermit, or Hobo as well.

The Outdoorsman is easily the hardest way to play the game, as you must rely solely on the environment and what it supplies you. Outdoorsmen follow a strict set of rules governing how they will survive. They only use hand-crafted items such as the improvised shortbow and arrows, to hunt down animals for food. You might see an outdoorsman wearing their prized full leather clothing set. Outdoorsmen easily deserve manly beards more than any other character. Any outdoorsman you find should be left alone to do their thing, even if you're a murderer.

[Neutral] The Hunter: a person who hunts game or other wild animals for food or in sport.

Pretty similar to The Outdoorsman.

The Hunter will shoot animals for food, but don't live off the land as much as The Outdoorsman. A hunter will also hunt down zombies for entertainment. Hunters are sometimes mistaken as a Vigilante or Murderer, if people think they hunt down players. This type of playstyle is paired with others, most of the time.

List below which characters you are! And feel free to add any other playstyle you think I missed!

Myself, I'm a Survivor, Hero, Vigilante blend.

I'm between neutral (survivor) and neutral good (hero) as I prefer to help out, share stories and supplies, or watch from afar instead of jumping into action and shooting everyone I see.

I like to leave a good impression when leaving a survivor I just met so it be shared to others also. Of course it's never a certainty, but it's still a small ray of hope in the harsh land out there, that is the apocalypse.

If I can add something, is that my third trait would be a fisherman. B)  No melee on my back, but a fishing rod.

In a mixture of a medic and vigilante, i always horde medical supplies and am always willing to share or help someone in need but i am far from a pacifist, i will defend myself and rush in to save someone being held up and i dont take risks with people that are fully decked out, they are fair game for me.

I'm a survivor who tends toward the outdoorsman. I don't typically wear full leather but I do replace canteens/PET's with natural water pouch and like to use the leather vest and leather sack. Under it I like a wool coat, hiking boots and the native caps with the little ball on top. I only eat canned/stored goods in the very beginning and then move on to growing crops/foraging/hunting/fishing. I'll happily use a bow but I'll also happily trade it for a blaze or mosin, something capable of taking a cow down in a single shot. So while I'm not a total Luddite, I do find it more fun to live off the land.

If you ever find a garden plot with a rabbit snare trap setup nearby by some small house in the middle of nowhere, I'm probably close. :D

Either [Neutral Evil] or [Neutral Friendly].

I ran a group of dudes (10 or so) and we ran around doing robberies and such, never killing anyone unless that person we were killing was endangering us in some sort of way (gun out, no sort of obstruction between us to shield fire).

We would ask people to drop their items (checking for weapons, take all ammunition for their weapon, and giving their weapon back, we'd only do this if we checked the area enough to know there wasn't ammunition to pick up on the ground anywhere). If we noticed they were out of food, we might slip a can of beans in their backpack and let them lose one we took what we needed, and if we didn't need anything, we would let them go afterwards, we basically de-militarized an area, and we would take over towns that way, and keep the "civilians" safe, we were, essentially, warlords, and in-fact, I had people call me Warlord Mosquito.

If I'm a newspawn/ little to no gear I'm a backstabber. When I'm geared it all depends on the people I meet. If it's those newspawns who run around you in circles and keep jittering around like they have ADHD I'll kill them if they seem like a genuinely nice person I'll give them some stuff and move on.

I'm a blend of the Medic, the Neutral, and the Neutral Friendly. If I see someone bleeding out or being attacked by a bandit or murderer, I'll help them, but I still use extreme caution. If I enter a city, I'll sneak around and frequently look around in all directions. If I come across someone who needs help, I'll help them, but ultimately my survival is my main concern, and if someone seems hostile, I'll either avoid them or gun them down.

In a nutshell, I help people, but I am very careful while doing it.

I probably best fit the Neutral Friendly category. Once or twice I set out to murder people but that was more of just an experiment. I'm typically friendly towards everyone I meet unless they show hostility. I like to get very well geared and carry as much loot as I can then search for people so I can give the stuff away. I also take big risks. I don't usually bother being all tactical and paranoid. I put myself in harms way quite a bit for the sake of helping others and entertaining myself, which is usually what gets me killed.

Like everyone else it depends on the situation you're in at the time.

No one's "always" a Hero, or anything else.

I'm a mix of survivor and bandit. I don't trust anyone, so I lone wolf it. I prefer to avoid others and if I see someone I might leave them be, but if the opportunity presents itself, I have no qualms with killing them for food and supplies.

Er, actually, you murder people who are trading with you. Ergo, you're just a backstabber.

None of those, I hide away from pvp and avoid big coastal city's.

Small towns only and always take the longer way to get where I go

If I see a player I go the other way or stay put till there gone.

I give you "the pussy"

Honestly when gearing up that's how I play once geared I'm very cautious.

What's especially stylish is that you list the poor trader you killed in your "trusted traders" signature. Like it.

I'm mostly a survivor when without friends. I'm a murder when I'm with a team of friends. Though the best way you can compare me is the navagiation specialist though there not on the list.
