MP5 least practical weapon in game?

Recommended Posts

Just had a run-in in elektro with a group of 3 players. The assault player I was covering was killed by an MP5 while I was covering him from a nearby (3-400 meters) hillside after we had killed the first two players (M4 with acog and bipod is god). I moved in to kill the last survivor and secure the area.

While dealing with a zombie, he opened up on me with his MP5. My screen flashed and I saw gray. My heart skipped, then sank. I weaved around a nearby building and ran for it. He lost my trail and I got away.

After hunkering down in a small bush, I discovered that only my press vest had been damaged. All of the items within were unscathed. What..? A submachine gun that is quite labor intensive to aquire and supply can't even ruin a common, worn press vest?

Does anyone that has used the MP5 in combat have anything redeeming to say about it's performance? If the recoil is minimal, I think it might be worthwhile, but the disappointing damage is an immediate turnoff for me.

Yeah haha I had an MP5 with all the attachments with my group and I saw this guy and I opened fire while he was standing still and I only knocked him out.

He later had a friend that shot us lol

Basically you can survive any shot from any weapon in the game depending on circumstances. For me, everything that came under fire from an MP5 dropped dead like a bag of potatoes.

It's a 9mm. The press vest would stop it. Hence pistol-caliber submachine guns have fallen out of favor in recent years.

Not an excuse for DayZ though because the game doesn't model body armor penetration.

That's the irony. 3 dupers screaming hacker from a legit player who just happen to stumble upon them! Ha! lol

The shittiest weapon in this game at the moment is the Derringer. If I can't drop a new spawn running at me with a shovel after three body shots with .45 caliber handgun rounds in a gun that holds only two shots, using the weapon is less effective for boo-boo infliction than running towards your target with a gardening tool used for small scale dirt relocation.

Don't underestimate this weapon. You can spray your target for a second and flatten them. This is my experience with this gun. It has never let me down.

SMGs would be better if they were more abundant (something that has improved with prison island and police cars at least).  The problem is that you can probably find an AK or shotgun sooner, both of which are arguably better at the same ranges and in the case of the assault rifles at longer range.  A lot like most pistols that require a mag.  They fill a niche with too much overlap for their rarity.

They can spray pretty fast though, the recoil isn't horrible and they take some cool attachments so they aren't useless.  Just one of those things where you're probably going to use it for style points over practicality however.  Which lets be honest, style is the most important thing any ways.

Let's say you are carrying a mosin or the upcoming winchester. It's nice to have a full auto gun on you so you can handle close quarters a bit better than a standard pistol.

I just prefer the ak74u for filling the same back up role. Ya there are no optics for it, but I feel like I'm using an assault rifle when I fire it instead of an automatic pistol. Does anyone know how the ballistics of the 5.45 compare to the 9mm in game? Damage? Gews?

This was posted on reddit, like a week ago. I think it's for 0.54 stable, not sure though.

Someone above mentioned it already, damage is dependant on the caliber only. But either way, gunfights are so unpredictable at the moment, that choosing a gun on minimal stat differences like MP5-K & AKS-74U seems like a wasted effort. Just pick what you're most comfortable with, or what fits your caracter best if you're roleplaying. The best way to come out on top is still being smart, vigilant and careful.

i only depend on the mp5k in close quarters, what it's made for....its been good to me for clearing buildings.

.45ACP is the most powerful handgun cartridge you can get in this game.  I've dropped a fully decked out character, vest and all with one single round.

In terms of DayZ FUNCTION ONLY, the MP5k is just a fully automatic version of the CR75.  Also, I found an MP5 and about 6 mags in a single day.  I still find mags in police stations all over.  They're not that hard to find I don't think, maybe I'm just lucky?

For me its ether the AK 74U or MP5K for close combat. Those weapons are just superior in allot of ways for that kind of deal. Using anything mosin related for close quarters combat outside of infected fights is pretty much a death sentence unless you got extremely good eye hand coordination skills in game and literally no internet issues or lag.

I cant say anything about the RAK cause its really hard finding them in game at the moment. Maybe if the gun were more readily available to the public like the other two i might have a 3rd favorite weapon on my list.

I'm guessing the only reason you can find shitloads of equipment at the prison at the moment, is because they want people to actually go there to test the area. Spawn rates will probably be reduced in the future.

Oh, then I must have been tripping some serious balls on some shit-tastic back-alley hallucinogenic shrooms when I thought I watched blood squirt out of Carl the Bambi when I popped him three times in the nip nips and imagined the entire thing in my drug induced daze.

Your anecdote doesn't make mine irrelevant

The issue is that the MP5 is a submachinegun and is less adaptable than a rifle or carbine. A way to make use of the MP5 is to make the MP5 more common and give it a "tier" so to speak as mid geared players could use it more often than holding out for an AKM or other common AK rifle. More people would stick to it than move on as the upkeep of finding accessories would be easier. Put MP5s and accessories as spawns on Humvee wrecks as it is logical that the former users of the humvees may have had them. Throw them in air traffic control towers and the upcoming civilian airport buildings as it would be logical to see them in the hands of a port authority security force.

I think the mp5 is amazing! Its a submachine gun people, it's firing handgun ammunition. AKA its not going to have a lot of stopping power.

If one uses it for what it was designed for; CQB (Correct me if im wrong), then it truly shines. Back when my boys actually used to get on, we'd go PVPin the major cities. Back then i'd roll with a mosin, and usually players would attempt to move up on me after hearing my gunshots. Pulling an mp5 out of my back and returning fire within a building usually results in their death, my survival. You simply can't beat that rate of fire. In such close quarters, you don't need range.
