Same mod-disaster like in Arma?

Recommended Posts

Mkay, this is a lamentation in advance and I don't know what it will be like. Somewhere I read, DayZ will support mods in the future. I fear it will be the same incompatibility-disaster like in Arma. So that - mathematically spoken - x players out there will have almost x game versions that are incompatible to each other. And wouldn't it be a new gateway for cheats?

I for one could not play ARAM3 as I could not get my head round all the stuff you needed to play on certain servers! I'm a right spaz with computes

Well the only thing you really needed for Arma 3s Breaking point is is the Launcher for Breaking point you don't even need to open Arma 3 to play it just click on the servers and join. Not sure about the other mods but this one is pretty simple and straight forward for allot of ppl.

It could be you never know but im sure the developers have been thinking about this in advance. We will just have to wait and see really once the game is more fleshed out.

I don't forsee so as mods etc will be controlled all through the steam workshop so anything added can be downloaded in its simplest form. This would be the ease as opposed with A3 etc where one goes to armaholics and or specific hosted sites for launchers to servers.

I'm not concerned about if they will be easy to install, but only about that you won't be able to join 99% of all servers (I don't say it WILL be like this, I'm just uttering thoughts). Somehow I even don't like the two "factions" (1st and 3rd person) we have now. It would be great if you could just click on any random server (version 1.0+)in the list (not full) and you could join. Many mods in Arma just exist because it's possible, not because they are an enrichment. I'd just like to have spoken out my thoughts in advance (if I'm allowed).

honestly this version of dayz has come out very nice compared to arma dayz.

it's a whole new game, again.

zoms aren't finished yet, so the game isn't either.

KOS goes bye-bye when there are this many zombies chasing you

As I look into my crystal ball..

I cant wait for Rocket to mod for it haha! It'll be like DayZ mod of the DayZ SA, he tweets he is making a game, he probably has mod tools already, I mean surely.. the guy has his name on the game.

Now it all makes sense.

From what I've read somewhere. It is in BI's contract with the hosting companies that host dayz that they will have to provide an amount of "vanilla dayz" servers regardless, so that the basic dayz does not get pushed aside.

however, i do see a day where vanilla might be a small part of the total dayz player base, depending on what kind of mods become popular, but that is far off..
Steam workshop might also be an easy to use way of getting hold of those most played mods. so i don't see that as a problem.

It would be nice to one day be provided with an option to get that "start with weapons, only spawn in cherno, lots of cars, helicopter mod"..
......... so those players would get out of my vanilla.....

Same mod-disaster like in Arma?

I doubt it very much, the key word is *"hackeneye".
However this is not going to be rushed, or *....

A couple of things on my wishlist I'd like to see regarding modding and custom servers:

All modded servers separated to their own "custom" server browser tab.

If you try to join a "custom" server running mods, a dialog box pops up saying: This server requires the following workshop files, would you like to subscribe/download them now?

I don't really play many mods but I assume if someone is subscribed to workshop files, author released updates will automatically be downloaded when you launch the game or steam so you won't have everyone running different/outdated versions.

Modding should be saved for the game's end of life to re-invigorate the title, not out of the gate. 1.0 should be a single gaming experience otherwise it will quickly degrade into the same mess as the mod. I agree with you as well that they should have chosen 1pp or 3pp but not both; it just fractures the player-base.

Yeah, uhm, am i the only one who thinks this will never happen?

So what if zombies will look cool chasing you. I bet that, just like now, i will be able to aggro all the zombs of elektro and kill them without a prob.

Five times the current number where theres like 10 zombies in elektro wont help them. 50 times, maybe, but that's not possible anyway.

KOS will remain, dont fool yourself that five times the AI will remove it. 5 times more only means youll actualy get to shoot a zombie or two in gorka or maybe even stary jar.

Surely with the mods, some enterprising and talented individual will create a DayZ Commander or DayZLauncher like program that will categorize the various mod servers and auto launch the correct mods for that server.. I can not see this being a problem.. Quite looking forward to seeing what people do with it.. Sure you will get the usual "10000 vehicles, AS50, spawn select" crap, but you will also get some truly innovative and interesting creations being mixed in and I for one am very much going to try as many out as possible and see what fits my personal preference the best.

Wont be needed.

BI is working on a launcher that automatically tells you what mods are needed to join a server and downloads em for you.

Might be different if you can only run as fast as a zed when you sprint and you can only sprint for a limited time only. That might force you to barricade in a house to catch your breath or you have them clawing your back as you try to run away - that's the kind of thing I want to see with fresh spawns - hordes ripping them to pieces and running off with their guts hanging from their mouths.

This is the anti game (supposedly) so let's start getting seriously nasty with the zed mechanics and make city's a thing to be feared, not ran through easily.

Tried experimental last night with the new zombie AI - hmmmmm...... Item spawns were borked, spawning the same thing over and over from about 5 different items. So I had hundreds of water bottles, sewing kits and .357 rounds but no food anywhere. Zeds are a little tougher when fighting you but didn't seem to notice me when i was 20m from them, then they did after ages, or didn't and you can still hit walk and strafe around them but at least now they hit back - overall, if this is a serious update not impressed.
