DayZ needs more loot

Recommended Posts

i played for hours yesterday. On high and low population servers. I could find ammo, but no weapons to match. Or I could find a weapon, but never find ammo. Do the servers have to restart before the loot is replenished?

What tips does anyone have for getting ammo and weapons?

we are in alpha, testing phases of "a batch of items".

You wont find everything because they only introduce so many items each patch. We are on .54 atm, +1 fix. .55 is next.

Ammo? NWAF tents, Army tent areas, SKS also the island is loaded.

The rest is in police, and house buildings.

When you need ammo, and weapons you hit up the areas the dev.'s want us to go test out.

During beta I believe they will open up the spawn lists, I don't know any more then the next guy after q4 of this year.

If you find an sks then you will need to go to a military sight to get any good amount of ammo (a quick dash into the tent city will do) If you get a lower grade gun like a mosin or repeater or magnum etc you can find ammo everywhere. If you really want big stuff like m4's AK's etc then, good luck.

Stumble across them right after spawning (wooden cabins). Honestly its way too easy to find a gun with matching ammunition - especially on servers with persistence off. I really think firearms, ammo and military equipment should be a lot harder to find as right now the overall threat level is extremely high which hurts most player interactions other than shooting on sight.

However, as long as diverse teleport abuses (server hopping, freshspawn suicide etc.) stay unfixed any attempt at balancing rarity or game dynamics will be in vain.

i've been having the same problems as the op. i seem to find ammo for everything but the firearm i find.

you would think if you found an sks hiding under a bed, chances are pretty good there would be a box of rounds for it someplace in the same house.

i doubt the owner took all his rounds and left the house without the firearm...

It's frustrating. I just now spawned with a zombie hitting me. My character is about to die of starvation because I've been running from town to town and finding no food or weapons for the ammo I have.

I'll check out the maps to see where I am in relation to bases. Although I hear that's where a lot of people go to camp and shoot.

Edit: Correction...my character just died of starvation.

That seems to be a common problen on persistence on servers. get to a town where all the loot has been taken. I am enjoying private/pers off/4hr restart servers. More chance of getting someplace that hasnt been emptied out yet.

Starting out in underwear from the beach (or wherever) is the most interesting and most difficult part of the game.

You die 20 or 30 or maybe more times before you begin to avoid starvation, not get killed by zombies, how to open cans, how long a full belly of water lasts, how to approach other players, how to avoid hypothermia ... all that stuff, plus how to be lucky... that's a tricky one to learn, this game is TOTALLY FULL of bad luck, heh .. not getting into bad-luck situations (unless you want to) is one of the big things to learn. You die a lot first and then you learn it bit by bit.

You can learn all this the quickest by NOT going near any military bases - in fact going to a big-loot location gets you killed faster, pretty much it doesn't get you guns and food and clothes.

... work out how to survive and get reasonably good at it - then later work out how to be mean and bad. When you can survive AND be mean and bad too, then you can check out the military places where all the mean bad players hang out to kill each other.

normal places like factories, town houses, schools, sheds even, have shotguns, pump-guns, revolvers, SKS, Mosins.. ammo for these you can find anywhere (sooner or later). look at the map and go away from the high loot areas where all the players get together to shoot each other.. you can find plenty of quiet towns - you need a stone knife, a plastic raincoat, and any backpack..  to survive. and any melee weapon that is good for you to kill zombies with (your personal choice).

for instance, an automatic is a bad choice (you find them around) because you need a magazine as well as ammo, so its harder to find all three of those.. wood-splitting axes are good for zombies and other stuff, you find those in any kind of buildings.. get a shotgun and saw off the barrels.. if you really need food eat apples and berries.. it takes time but you can stuff yourself with apples right off the trees. get a raincoat.

..ok, so this is just my advice .. find out how to live in this game first.. then go looking for top kit later. When you're an expert, you'll know that starting as a newspawn is really the most difficult and interesting part of the game. IMO..

ps - the online DayZDB map gives you the complete spawn lists for any individual building you click on.. that map is "fairly" up to date but you don't need it much.. go where other players don't go, you'll find food, weapons, and a raincoat and backpack.. start from there..

Stone knife has got to be the best tool in the game. Open food, cut up clothing and chop kindling from bushes is amazing. Does anyone know if it can be used to skin animals?

DayZ needs more loot

no, just no.

learn where to loot the things you need, when you'll have 200-400h of gameplay, you'll be able to gear up in 1h, even on raided servers.

No we don't need more loot. The problem is that a lot of people spawn on the beach and only run around balota, cherno, elektro, amyshovo, solnichy and berezino. Quite quickly these places get looted, the people get killed and the loot they had dissapears. Just run inland a bit, you will find loot there.

When I play I usually never play on persistance enabled servers. Mostly because theres no loot except at military bases but also because the loot so rarely replenishes. On regular server the server restarts and Hey presto, lots of stuff!.  I usually get decent gear and a gun in an hour or less and I NEVER kill anyone for their gear. Its not hard if you know where to look.

Stone knife yes! : This is why we only spent 50 years in the digital age, but thousands of years in the stone age.

It was better.

- ok - and it would have been really great if we'd had raincoats.

So, basically, spawn...go inland for food and melee, etc. Is that a basic good way to start?

If you spawn on the beach. Quick look around to see if any zombies. Look down and search for rocks. Once found craft stone knife. Then yes go inland in search for melee clothing and food. Sheds usually spawn melee if thats what you come across first.

This is a good thing. This is so people don't get weapons right away. My guess is all the servers you were on, you just checked the same town, Example like Elektro, Cherno, ETC. The reason DayZ does this is so it does not make the mistake DayZ Mod private hives did, a deathmatch down south. With this method of hard weapon finding and everything of that sort, it makes people travel, and survive more, not just a deathmatch. However, check out these locations for loot:

Pubs - One of the most under-rated places. Players familiar with the game, will often check this spot. Even on full pop servers, people always check the obvious buildings, police stations, fire stations, etc. The Pub, is one of the places I first look. If not looted, you can find these weapons: Mosin's, Shotgun's, SKS's, Sporter 22, Pistols, etc. You just won't find weapons like the AK or M4.

Screenshot of Pubs.

Military Bases - On full pop servers, these bases are very action packed. I would suggest checking them out on a low pop, where I guarantee you'll find guns and ammo.

Airfields - Dangerous on Low Pop or High Pop. Would not recommend unless you have a squad, pvp, or a deathwish.

Grab a either a shotgun, mosin, repeater/magnum, or blaze as ammo is a lot easier to find for these guns nor do any of these require magazines.  I would skip the SKS as 7.62x39 rounds have become very hard to come by of late.

I agree, AND the first couple of t-shirts you find you tear them up to make rags. Throw away your torch and battery, tear up your own t-shirt if you want. You need at least 6 rags all the time. Even if you win a zombie fight you'll probably be bleeding. When zombs hit you they usually damage your pants first, more than other clothes, so keep rags in your backpack or other pockets - if they are in your pants, then when you need then you'll find they are destroyed and you cant use them. If you have less than  4 rags or bandages, go look for more.

Look for a server that brags about extra loot. Type "loot" into the search box on DayZ Commander.

Those servers are lying. There is no way to increase or decrease the loot other than going persistance or Non-persistance.

Because you got there first. There is no extra buildings.

He is right; Server names such as 1000% loot are BS.

I think there's already way too much loot esp food and firearms. at the same time i wish i found a pen/note/book in every school backpack. Some loot has weird spawnpoints.

Also, i really think I should have a 100% chance of finding rocks, sticks, apples, feathers...everything im looking at  and its already there.
