Thumper1999 48 Posted March 5, 2015 (edited) what new ideas do you want to start a campfire in dayz? what other ideas do you want? Note this poll will be edited. Edited June 8, 2015 by Thumper1999
TIC 1050 Posted March 5, 2015 Make use of a battery to create a fire. Hand Drill Bow Drill And those are the ones that really stand out the most.. There are definitely a lot more ways that are quite interesting :) http://www.artofmanliness.com/2008/04/29/9-ways-to-start-a-fire-without-matches/
ebrim 998 Posted March 5, 2015 Stun baton/cattle prod should do it. Particularly if you threw some gasoline on there first.
IkaikaKekai 1957 Posted March 5, 2015 Alcohol wont burn unless it's a high proof/high concentration. That and gas won't ignite itself either, neither will a molotov. Electricity should be a way to start fires, but obviously tazeing a piece of wood probably won't result in a fire. I think there should be things like fire bundles you can make, or long burning sources of fire that you can transfer to say a fireplace to start the fire. IE Flares, a candle, or the aforementioned fire bundle, so you can turn one match into a source of fire.
Thumper1999 48 Posted March 5, 2015 (edited) @ Dayz developers. what do you think about these ideas of new ways to start a fire? Edited March 6, 2015 by Thumper1999
demoore 15 Posted March 6, 2015 *Longtime Hero* said it. I really want a bowdrill. You can make i from taking shoe laces from shoes and combining with ashewood and then combine with a kindling stick or something like that.
Whyherro123 2283 Posted March 8, 2015 In my experiences, gasoline is in all actually rather shitty at starting fires. It burns hot, yes, but FAST, and therefore only really is useful for flash-drying wood and catching tinder (and other things with low flash-points) on fire. Evil Minion 943 Posted March 8, 2015 I think a lighter would be a good thing. Many of the other options (like gasoline) are actually fuel and should not be able to start fires but might make it easier to get it going similar to rags. Now another option that was used historically is storing or transporting the embers instead of starting a new fire every time. I think this would also be a great addition to DayZ. In a similar manner torches, oil lamps and candles could work as temporary fire sources to create more fires from an existing one.

cash81 506 Posted March 9, 2015 I think a lighter would be a good thing. there must be a zippo or equivalent laying around someplace in russia lol
Santa fox 53 Posted March 9, 2015 Flares and flareguns should definately be a way to start fires. Should consume the flare completely in the case you use it to start a fire, and obviously a flare shot would also be used to ignite it.
IkaikaKekai 1957 Posted March 10, 2015 I think you already can use roadflares to start fires. Some survival guides even suggest having a chopped down flare (with the chopped end being sealed with something like wax for waterproofing). Using a signal flare fired from a flaregun sounds like a bad idea IMO, that thing's got a bit of power behind it. Now using the actual signal flare to start a fire would be good if you could ignite it without igniting the propellant that might be better.
Bastien (DayZ) 1 Posted March 12, 2015 I would say make a fire like millions of humans made them since 1 million of year: making fire with 2 pecies of wood: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ifx7RaXW1hQ
mrbeaneater 21 Posted March 20, 2015 Beans+Matches=Fire, you know what im talking about. just ate alot of beans and need a fire? Light up a match and get to tootin'
Whyherro123 2283 Posted March 21, 2015 Friction Bow Drill Hand Drill Friction plow Probably the easiest, and most effective, outside of using "modern" methods. Can make them "in the woods" with little to no problem This one requires "loot", but can be reused, and can't effectively run out, unlike matches (I've been using the same firesteel for YEARS. You are supposed to be able to get 12,000 strikes from a decent-sized one)

IE Flares, a candle, or the aforementioned fire bundle, so you can turn one match into a source of fire. Alcohol used as rubbing alcohol (which is what the tinctures are implying, in my opinion) is typically 99% Isopropyl Alcohol (worst case 70%, but normally 99) and is indeed flammable, at both concentrate and 70% dilution. generating a spark via tazer with gasoline will also ignite, probably taking off your arm hairs while at it. :) Flares would be a great way to start a fire also.
