I think i am turning into a KOS type...

Recommended Posts

Every F@*!ing time i try to be friendly like giving supplies, talking, helping, i always end up getting killed or shot out of nowhere or if a fresh spawn ask if i can help him getting somewhere then he makes me walk right into his friends which then shoot me.... and trust me i am careful about what i do in dayz becasue i know that people can be some D@!*&

So i start feeling that to prevent things like this the only ways is to KOS... and i dont feel like doing that... but apparently that is to only way to do it.

Am i the only one who is having problems being friendly to other people?

For me it goes in spurts, and it depends on where I am and also what server I'm on. I had a bad run where basically from July nearly through November I had all hostile interactions, seemingly at least 95% of the time. However recently it's mostly been friendly - but maybe that's because my recent adventures have been to castles looking for a sword (still haven't found one) and also checking out various inland towns that I've not checked out before. If you're on the coast anywhere between Elektro and Berezino you're in the "PVP and bambi corpse cannon highway", if that's where you gravitate to that will explain a lot.

Gotta read their voice and body language. Don't trust completely ungeared players. Drop them some food, point them in the right direction, then move on.

Not worth going full gear then helping people. Best not to waste too much time gearing up.

Also, the reaction of players depends on the server. Servers where you need to get whitelisted to join usually enable better player interaction in general, for example.

Tip on escorting a bambi or disadvantaged player: once you arrive to the outskirts of the town which is your destination, leave them to proceed on their own. Hide and watch from a safe location or move on. Changing the plan at the last minute like this will allow you to help without becoming the victim. Typically when I escort a bambi I have them run out in the open and I'm in the woods or with some sort of cover... I establish that this is the price of my help. I never walk arm in arm with a player that has nothing to lose. Since you have all the power in this situation you can also enforce (by penalty of death) a personal space boundary. Any good natured player will understand and respect this request, and any bad natured player will soon hear the waves in his headphones.

Usually you can tell the outcome of a player interaction by the tone of voice and behavior but I recognize this isn't always true.

You need to adopt to every situation.

Freshspawns, I let 'em run to whatever they're running at. If they come close, I ask them to leave or I'll cap them. I honestly don't feel bad doing so, it's not like they've lost something.

Other geared players either speak my native language or put their gun away. Exceptions are made if I run in a team.

If you see a possibly hostile person, shoot his legs if you have a weapon that is capable of it. (In the meaning of only breaking his legs, that is....)
That way you can try to force him in putting his weapon away.

If i am the first to spot i prefer killing (only if the spotted has got a weapon)... The only players that i don't kill are those who spot me first and talk to me instead of shooting. I started Kosing not much time ago after many many deaths caused from players who initially looked friendly

Yep people are a lot more friendly when you have the upper hand.

As for helping Bambi nar you have to remember that Bambi is just a low geared bandit who probably would have shot you 5 min ago when he had his AK and he has nothing to lose everything to gain.

Don't turn to the dark side ;-)

When I see a fresh spawn I usualy shot his legs or something, then help latter. Some people start to cry "hey man I have nothing man why you are doing this", thats where you go and help. I mean, if you are all friendly and nice people will try to stomp you, so kick their ass first to show who is in charge. Fear will be your best friend, you gotta show him all the time that you are "unstable" and he can take a bullet to the head at any moment for no reason. But you help him, in the end it was good for him. I usually have clothes and shit so I give this all to the person.

Now if the player has some gear, this will obviously not work and he will go full defensive if you are that agressive. In these situations your best bet is to have the drop, show him that you could have killed him but you didn't. Again, don't be all nice and friendly, show that you really could have killed him, but you chosed not to. Imo this creates a basic trust between you and the person you want to make contact with. The first seconds will aways be the worse man, as people already said, its the tone of the voice but also if the person speaks the same language as you and many other factors. Experience reveals more of these factors I believe, you get good in this (thou I'm not very good I think)

Its pretty fucking hard to be "friendly", but its fun man. The best thing is that you really cannot attatch yourself to your gear if you want to be friendly, and you gotta test many different approaches and see what works best for you, that means the game will really not play the same everytime. You see, you miss this part if  you start to ONLY KoS.

I KOS myself, but only when people are in groups. I like to play alone so groups are the real risk with their TeamSpeak hack and shit, they are rarelly open for strangers and will most likely troll you to death lol

Doesnt the one carrying the Ak and all have more to lose than a bambi? ;)

But i agree if you didnt KoS before dont do it now because of some (ok maybe alot) of bad experiences .

Keep in mind - there's nothing like that day when you find a friendly and coop loot a town or two with him/her...

... only to have them get bored and shoot you when you thought you were completely safe. It's happened to me.

Sorry I should have been clearer, I meant "he" as in the Bambi has nothing to lose you have everything to lose ;-)

I've not been playing to long (12-2014) however i would say that most of my player interactions have been bad. 7/10 times one of us is killed. My brother on the other hand rarely meets hostility. I like attempting to be friendly. One person the first day i played befriended us and plays regularly with me, he even looted and held my gear when i was booted and died.

This is horseshit........there are groups that don't use TS just to troll folks.........in fact your definition of group may even be off......my friend and I run on TS on occasion and we ALWAYS try to talk before shooting, as a rule it gets us killed more often than not, but that's because too many people like you think that if you see two people running together you need to shoot them right away.

It's people that think this way that are pushing us further and further away from wanting to play the game as a survival game and closer and closer to playing it like Arma3 with zombies and just shooting on sight. Bad enough we have to deal with the hackers that infest it without having normal players act just as bad.

Why try and help freshies in the first place? There is a higher chance that they have just been killed and will be looking for that insta-kit up. You will have a better chance of making friends inland as people don't need your gear as much but timing must be everything. You need to catch someone with their pants down and seriously they will be thankful you didn't just KoS and the chances of interacting with players is ten fold.

I'm normally will be the one that will quickly say don't trust anyone and do everything short saying out right KOS. Only cause I don't feel like debating with the anti this and that crowd.

With that said I for once met a friendly random player a couple days ago. Ended up running with till server restart. Little did he know I was trying to gather Intel and figure out if he was in a clan or not lol Regardless it was completely friendly and honestly nice to see every blue moon. Which is a rarity for me.

I'm not saying the game plays this way as a whole, all I said was based on my experience because thats what everyone can say about this subject, their own experience. And groups so far have been pretty hostile to me. Sorry, I will kill you and your friend, unless you guys don't have a gun or as you said, you stablish comunication. Maybe in the future this changes, when the game shifts towards survival, but now thats how I see it.

Not at all mad, just sad that so many play that way...........seems to me like they should stick to Arma, BF4 or COD as it more fits their playstyle. Not worth trying to communicate, found that out the hard way as well. Until there are less "let's go play war in a zombie game" players around it's going to stay this way I reckon.

All good though, as I said, we're rapidly reaching the point wherein anyone we see that's not in jeans and a t-shirt gets shot from range. Can't beat'em then join'em right?

I should play COD or BF4 because I find hard to trust strange people in groups?

I agree with OP.

I was running around Berezino today and I encountered a bambi. We talked for a bit and he asked me if I had some food, so I opened a can for him and dropped it on the ground. He said thanks, I then spotted another new spawn running towards me. I ask he he wants some food and he says sure, so I open another can of food and drop it on the ground. Whle I'm facing the second guy that approached, the guy I JUST gave food to earlier and told me thanks for it raises his fists and knocks me out.

I'm KOSing pretty much everyone I see now unless they give me a reason otherwise.

Finding it hard to trust is a far cry from shooting on sight...........there are other options, stay hidden, talk to them, decide based on that communication or lack of communication if it's worth risking actually coming out and meeting them..........just blasting away without any effort to talk at all takes away a HUGE part of the exicitement of the game, not only for the person you shot, but for yourself as well.

Man, have you even read my first post? Because it seriously looks like you didn't. In fact, looks like you are not even discussing with me due the nature of your arguments. You WANT me to be the KoS guy (when I am not) so you can convince me that I am wrong. Just stop and read my first post man, please, this discussion will go nowhere if you stay like this.
