Do defibrillators even work?

Recommended Posts

As the title says.

Situation. We just now discovered a warm naked body without a pulse in Vybor military base.

Good samaritans we are we thought we'd use our defib and bring the unknown dead person back to life.

So my friend uses his defib (with battery) and.... goes unconcious right on the spot. I then try and use it but it doesnt go past turn on.

Result 2 dead detemping bodies 1 useless defib and a disappointed but now hugely kitted writer.

So what gives?

I hope in the future they overhaul defibs to allow you to "resuscitate" a very recently dead player. It would be cool to be able to run up to one of your recently downed buddies in combat, use the defib on him, then bandage him up so he is only unconscious, and will eventually get back up in time with proper treatment

As of right now the defib is in the top 10 most useless and irrelevant items in the game, if you ask me.

Well that sucks. I always carry that crappy thing with me. Now i save 3/4 slots. :)

So is there a way to help a downed friend? Dead or unconcious.

Defibs don't revive dead players.
You can use it to wake unconcious players I believe, atleast I got that told once.

But it's useless, now that you have the heart massage and epinephrine pens

There were 2 bodies. 1 dead 1 unconcious. Didnt work on either.

I like the revival thing, but I also think we need a limit. Defibrilators should not cure head shots with baseball sized exit wounds :P

Possibly could work with minimal effort/strain on servers & client by simply making your health go in to the negatives. If it drops below a certain number, you can't be revived. That's a single if statement added to the defib code & a change to a variable. Then they test to make sure that a headshot deals enough damage that it always drops you below that barrier (assuming you've no bulletproof head protection) and boom, everything's great.

Though, saying that, it's possible to survive a headshot if the angle & position is right irl. Assuming that they'll never truly factor that in, it'd be nice to make it so that the minimum damage a headshot can do puts you a little under the barrier, so that you can be defibbed. Shouldn't happen very often and adds a chance of salvation from a sniper a KM away. :P

This system would mean that if you'd been shot too many times, even with low powered weapons (or even melee weapons) there'd be no chance of saving you, scaling it fairly well imo.

Defibs are meant to save people from cardiac arrest, possibly restarting the heart of a VERY recently killed person. They aren't magic revivers like in bf4. If realism is the goal of this game, they shouldn't bring people back to life

I have personal experience using defibs. Yes! They work. Only with unconscious people though. Somebody who was just riddled with a 75 drum mag won't get up. In that matter, anybody who's dead won't get up and start running. If someone dropped from dehydration or something like that could be saved.

According to the research done by players the defib and epipen works in the exact same way in the game. They reset your shock value, which is what keeps you from waking up from unconsciousness sometimes. It doesn't stop bleeding or replace lost blood but technically a player that is unconcious but not dead could be saved by defibbin him, then either giving him blood or saline or just waiting for him to wake up. I have NEVER succeded in doing this though, and not from lack of trying.

It would be more fun if you had more of a chance to survive even if you are downed, Sure most of the times the killers just go up and axe you dead but not always. sometimes you are downed and die quite quicklyfrom bleeding out. This should take more time, five to ten minutes at least. That way someone might be able to run and help you.

Much better off with the epi pen, and if you stick yourself with it you won't be accidentally dead. Save your slots buddy. The best thing for a near death situation is a blood bag or saline bag, then epi pen if it gets really bad.

Well thanks for the responses. Even the one above. :)

I guesd my buddy defibbed himself then. Because the target was dead.

But when he got unconcious i couldnt use it on him.

So in terms of medic gear. What do i need to help an unconcious person?

And did he really defibbed himself is it possible? He'll hear it for a loooooong time ;)

They can be used to revive players in some situations, however that situation is very uncommon and an eppi pen works better.
