Bambi inventory

Recommended Posts

I believe that when Bambi's spawn, they should receive some kind of low starter loot, albeit randomized. In an apocalypse, not everyone is going to wake up on a beach with a t-shirt and jeans and a flashlight. Maybe we could spawn with a black long sleeve shirt and yellow cargo pants, maybe with some other random stuff, say a can of food or a knife or something.

This would give players a slightly more realistic spawning approach, from the standard that we have now.

Personally I think you should have a chance or ither spawning with a flashlight or a walkietalkie, would return that good old feeling of "Any friendlies in Cherno?"

Your starter loot is the stuff you pick up at the loot spawns you visit first. Random clothes... maybe but only low tier stuff that does not significantly change your situation (Canvas Pants for Jeans, Tracksuit Pants+Shirt istead of T-Shirt+Jeans etc.).

Also remove the Flashlight and replace it with a random Chemlight and make the stuff you start in "Damaged" or "Badly Damaged" instead of "Pristine".

Exactly what I was thinking, good sir. Have everyone spawn with different random stuff so than not everyone looks the same when they spawn.

I would be ok with more random items, but only really basic civ items. No weapons. Like only 2 items. Honestly I always get rid of every thing I have with in a minute of spawning in. I toss the flash light and bat, and tear my tee shirt into rags, every time. I'm really only a fresh spawn for 5 min max, I'll shed most of that usless garbage the minute I find something to replace it with.

But yeah I know what your saying, jeans and a tee shirt....it has a really generic feel to it right now. Maybe there should be abit more randomized apperences when you 1st spawn in.

With that said I really don't want life to get easier for fresh spawns, infact I want there  to be even more survival aspects in a realistic balanced manor though. But I also want to see a lot less generic feel to being a fresh spawn...

And whats up with everyones avatars being all clean shaven and clean cut.....this a god dam zombie apoc LOL I wanna see epic beards and a dirty grimy look....NO not ironic hipster beards, Im talking full on hobo beards! I want our avatars..... well to look like bums..... :beans:

The current system completely devalues 4 slot trousers and makes 2 slot trousers utterly useless. Players should spawn either naked or in orange survival suits having washed up on the beach [like fishermen etc wear] with no more than 2 slots, a random item is a pretty cool thought, but how about a selection where by in the character customisation menu you can pick 1 of a number of items from for example; flashlight, pocket knife [very weak weapon, break easily when used to skin/open things], Bandage, flare or lighter/very small number of matches.

I want to channel the feeling of an episode of Man Vs. Wild, what would happen if I was dropped into a Shit Hits The Fan situation with only the stuff in my two pockets. The kind of feeling that I reckon Rocket was going for when he first made DayZ as a mod.

To achieve this, spawns should all be given only 2 inventory slots [2 pockets] and have a random chance of two from the following selection of items spawn in these pockets:
samsung-c5220.33852991.jpg
Hamsung Flip Phone / Gargle Smart Phone / Lemon Smart Phone. Makes sense for many people to be carrying a phone. You can use it as a light source, you can play a song on it, you can take it apart for crafting materials [the battery to power something, or the glass screen as a prism firelighter and sharp cutting edge]. Or you can play Snake [Easter egg]. Or you can throw it like a Rock.

Flashlight: What we have now. Comes preloaded with one (1) battery, no more spawning with extra batteries. The Phone is a shitty light source compared to this beast. The battery is a 9V and can be used in other equipment, whereas the Phone battery can only be used in phones.
Wallet-Purse-CK-1480-.jpg
Wallet
A small container that holds useless paper money [you can use it to light fires, that's about it] and perhaps like coins or keys or a condom or credit cards or something. If they ever implement player-specific skills, it could also hold licenses or business cards that tell you what your special skills are.
mace_80337_b.jpg

Pepper Spray:
For personal defense? At a short range, it can be used to completely blind a zombie or player for a short time, although the player or zombie can still flail around and attack. Has 10 charges. Face coverings such as masks, gas masks and even sunglasses prevent this weapon from working. With the acceleration of time in DayZ, let's say it works for a minute of blinding if it hits you, and aftereffects last for 15 minutes of mildly blurred vision. [And spraypaint can have the same effect on eyes.]

Swiss Army Knife: It has the little saw, a screwdriver, and a short knife blade of course. It can be used as a few different crafting tools, or a stabbing weapon like a normal Knife.lighter_1292320c.jpg
Lighter:
A small, quick, and easy firelighter for crafting and pyromania. Can be crafted into a makeshift flamethrower later!Thickening-7Oz-Jack-Daniels-Stainless-St

Hip flask:
Apparently your player was something of an alcoholic, or just happened to pick this up. Whatever. Can hold water, fuel, blood, spirits or urine, but for now is full of vodka! You can also throw it at people. The vodka inside is useful for sterilising, like its medical alcohol counterpart.

One of the existing types of glasses: You just happened to be carrying these when you wound up stranded in DayZ for whatever reason. Look cool, and protect your eyes from the sun/Mace.

Also, a Belt -- 25% chance to spawn wearing it, and it can be used to restrain players, or as crafting material to bind together stuff.

All up, I think we should keep it realistic and just have what you might have in your pockets on an ordinary day walking down the street. I know people who carry some of these. And you could only spawn with 2 things from all of these.

Everyone spawning naked like beached whales is quite ridiculous. Sure there's room for a lot because dayZ's lore is very open, but the mental gymnastics required for Survivors ending up naked?

This I totally agree with this, the rest of your post I do not.  We should be spawning in with our current clothing tattered and torn.  Enough room for that damn flashlight that comes with a battery in it.  That will then give us the choice and opportunity to wear track pants or canvas pants.  On the other hand tho, the way we start is generous enough to at least get people on their way and everything we can find is how we want to look.  If you want to look like an elite soldier the gear is there.  If you want to look like trailer trash..... the gear hopefully will be there.

Agreed, I prefer my beached fisherman survival suit idea.

Why not just make it so your spawn clothes are ruined and soaking? You did just wash up on a beach, after all.

Slightly randomised clothes would be nice, with randomised spawn gear, like the possibility to spawn with an unopened can of beans, or a screwdriver, or a chemlight or something.

You shouldn't spawn with matches. Spawning into a server where it's cold and rainy presents a survival issue that must be dealt with. Having matches as a starting piece of equipment nullifies one of the more deadly natural killers...hypothermia

Which is weird, because I think you should be able to rub sticks together like a Neanderthal and create the glowing yellow wood light.

Who just carries cans of beans in their jeans though, some form of extremely low tier clothing in poor condition makes sense, so a prison jumpsuit, a survival suit or hospital scrubs or something

Well I base that off of the assumption that the player grabbed whatever he could before jumping into the sea off of some sinking ship. Would make sense to grab some clean, waterproof food if there happened to be some at hand.

But yes, random low-tier clothing would be good, provided it's ruined. Your first objective should be to replace whatever you're wearing, or at least dry off.

No spawning with food or utensils. But i am all for spawning with some different, low tier clothing. like the black or checkered shirt(2slot) or tracksuit(either pants or jacket) and maybe some other stuff rather than always spawning in a shirt and jeans.

I'm sure further down the road, once everything starts coming together more, we will see different starting clothes.  As of right now everything is place holders.

I agree with CJFlint, we can use some more verity in player starting gear. With that said, it should be low level cosmetic gear (so we don't devalue anything) and customize able through your profile. I think that most of us will appreciate a little more personal touches there.

As of right now everything is place holders.

While theoretically everything is place holder during alpha, if you haven't been to the wiki, I suggest you take a quick look there, I think Dayz clothing line is pretty mature and while it may not had a final polish pass, most of it certainly appear far beyond mare place holder..

Can we go back to calling them newspawns please....

As for your suggestion...  I think giving them a big stick would be nice.  Good enough to stun a zombie and then lit you finish him off in a couple swings but worthless in pvp.

Let's stick to realism instead. Think about your suggestion before you post it not in just gameplay terms but realism terms as well:

How do you logically explain every single Survivor that spawns on the shores of Chernarus having a "big stick?"

Flashlights are already kind of weird, but to me you can explain it, for instance saying that the military dropped them off on the beach because the aircraft carrier was too full [you'll understand if you watched World War Z], and gave them a surplus military issue flashlight each to survive the night.

You just can't use that explanation for "big sticks" though!

I think it's a miles better solution to let players spawn with what most people would normally have in their pockets; everyone two pieces of random equipment, one in each pocket, out of: a lighter, phone, wallet, keyring, pocket knife, flashlight, Mace, sunnies, everyday items. Then, you can say any number of reasons how they turned up there: They were in town and heard of an evacuation point on the beach, or they were on a plane that crash landed in the ocean, or they just got off a boat that had been for a cruise before the zombies came.

To explain further, everyone having a "big stick" is silly because it leads everyone to believe all the Survivors had to be in some weird place with a lot of big sticks at one point, which ruins the story people make up for themselves. With an assortment of ordinary stuff in people's pockets, however, people can make up way more stories because all the Survivors aren't connected by one item.

I like the idea of spawning with random items more and more, it seems strange you always have a flashlight and a battery so why not spawn with something different. Like many have said some miscellanous items would be grand to spawn with, perhaps in the modern world they would have served a purpose but perhaps in a survival situation you can repurpose them in some way.

Lets have a look at some:

  • Cellphone/Mobile Phone - While somewhat useless in an apocalypse, these could be broken down into basic electrical compenants that once crafting is finalised could be an element in crafting in the future (such as IED's and scavenging electrical compenants). They could also be fully charged and function in the same way as a flashlight or glowstick albiet with the need to add a 9V battery.
  • Wallet - These would be function in their own way like a container in my eyes, although they'd primarily hold things like Coins, Paper Money and Cards. Paper money could be used as improvised kindling, Coins could be used to make an improvised fishing lure (if they are shiny enough) or be melted down into something more usuable and Cards could function in some way in the future as a crafting element.
  • Lighter - If you were to spawn with a lighter it would propose a major advantage to some but as an option it would be extremely rare. I think it would have to be one of those disposable lighters, they start at a random percentage on spawn so they only have X amount of uses before they are thrown away.
  • Keyring w/ Trinket - I sa "Trinket" as a keyring with a metal trinket could be fashioned into a makeshift fishing lure.
  • Watch - Whether digital or classic, a Watch could be used not only for telling time but also taken apart to make a variety of things
  • Hard Candy - Small hard candy or sweets, few in number and not a substational meal by any means but at least it could provide a short term "energized" status
  • Paper - Sometimes you always seem to have paper in your pockets, old notes or reciepts, either way you could use them for kindling or leave a message if ya find a pen.
  • Cigerettes - Ya never know if someone was a smoker, you can smoke ya self to death or use 'em as kindling.
  • Pocket Knife - A rare chance to spawn and if it does it should be in my opinion, damaged. Not really worth as a weapon but it could be used for skinning a rat or something

I like it less and less because it has no advantages over finding your "starting gear" at the nearest loot spawns and needlessly increases the power level of freshspawns which is pretty bad.

You got that flashlight as a gift that allows you to start playing on night servers - and with the addition of new items its even too much. Why? Because that battery can be used for other purposes and increases your power level. Give survivors a Chemlight instead - it also serves as light source but does not give them a free battery. Same with pristine clothes - you should not start in pristine or even worn clothes but rather in damaged/badly damaged ones.

As a freshspawn your power level should be very low - you should be happy to find any tool or a good piece of clothing in the loot spawns. No head start!
