so...its in.

You can skin and eat humans now. ( on exp. )

Tada...

I dont know if i like this feature. Not only will it produce tons of negative press BUT i dont buy the "its a survival game " ( its not, at least...not yet ) excuse to get this in.

Right , right its only a game BUT you know how fucking long it takes a human to finaly eat another one ? Did this REALLY had to be in ?

I don't like it, either. I think this is a bad addition to the game and it will only encourage poorer displays of behavior.

I was one of the people who was excited about this but the fact that itis now actually in ... I don't know, I agree, Its just asking for bad press Its too early

The fact that there is so much food and how easy it is to hunt and fish, I don't really see the point of cannibalism right now.

It doesn't add anything to the game there is no depth to it

Id also like to see some negative effects, or eg:  you can only eat human flesh when you are starving "status"

Hopefully there are negative effects and it becomes last resort in the future.

But nobody finds cannibalism the least bit off putting in Fallout and Elder Scrolls? (And probably a ton of other games I'm not thinking of right now.) I for one, welcome it. Now I have a tangible enemy to fight against; something to rally the masses to.

meh...i'm down with some cooked new spawn, any food supply that stops me raping berry trees for twenty minutes is a good thing.

Might change my whole play style after more than two and a half years of being a nice survivor.

well yeah but only if Food really becomes scarce...wich it wont until BETA i suppose ( or further iterations of the loot/spawn System )

I guess we can skip the Moral discussion since we are clearly in a virtual Environment. I remember hte "the Long dark" devs where discussing if they NEED this function in their game. Alas in that game you NEED to hunt to survive longer than the first 10 days or so.

Still, eating humans should come with a Penalty..or insanity creeping in...somehow...the char should mumble to himself, or get the shakes. OFC this isent too realistic BUT we Need a way to identify the cannibals. Maybe a more yellowish skintone ( but than all cannibals whould use a black char ????? )

or maybe we DONT Need a way to identify the maneaters ?

From an immersion point of view: killing and eating a fellow human should be in. Yeah, IRL it's morally wrong and in game it's extremely creepy...but DayZ is marketed as a "realistic" survival game. In real life some people resorted to cannibalism in hard times, especially when there wasn't any other food source around or they weren't able/enough skilled to secure one. From an immersion point of view, let the players hunt themselves and deal with the morals in-game only.

From a gameplay point of view: paraphrasing Les Grossman of Tropic Thunder, someone should slap the dev team on the top of the head really f*****g hard. Is this seriously worth coding in the game in this moment? We're still looking at "temporary placeholders" for: loot mechanics, loot spawn/respawn, infected numbers on the map, infected navigation and the King in Yellow knows how many other things. Yeah, different groups work on different things, I know. But still...cannibalism? Now? Please.

From a personal point of view: the game is steering slowly but surely on the "kill first" area. IF an effective loot economy will be coded in the game and IF an effective energy/thirst system will be introduced the high amount of firearms and the scarcity of resources will reward people who kill other players. Why trying to cooperate with someone in order to maybe find some loot together when I can simply kill him, loot his possessions and if I don't find anything useful on him at least skin and cook him for food? Mind you, it's not automatically a bad choice by the developers, but it's still a choice. Let's see if that remains true with future patches and development.

Defeat your enemies and eat them to aborb their strenght. Should be fine.

Not sure if it's needed though. I bump into animals every 5 mins.

You will start sweating and your hands a trembling, slowly but surely you will attain a state of Kuru.

 (Kuru class renamed to BrainDisease.)

Allegedly. Kuru being renamed "Brain Disease" could mean you will develop diseases from eating human flesh OR, for example, that infected NPCs can actually infect you with the disease that wiped out 9/10 of Chernarus. We don't know what "brain disease" is in-game, and the Kuru thing was spotted in 0.49 (or even earlier) without it being active in the game.

The only thing we know is that they added a (completely unnecessary at the moment) cannibalism option with no consequence whatsoever. Instead of, for example, make pond water causing food poisoning if they're not purified.

the new experimental update reminds me of that one DayZ movie trailer by Commandoflauge . . .

Why would you want to chow down on a man sausage, or a bit of breast?

If food was far more scarce than it is then maybe, just maybe I'd try it. (Tastes like chicken apparently)

But for me that's one step to far although I'm sure that if it happened and the world went to shit people would turn into Jeffrey Dahmer's.

Well, I've started using water purification tablets, have you ?

No, and (for now at least) my character does not have any health issue realted to this choice.

The problem with cannibalism, from a gameplay point of view, is that it does not add anything significant and does not answer to any kind of need of the community, just to a preference. Making untreated pond/lake water hazardous, on the other hand, could help the developers shape the map better. Food and loot scarcity, need for medications and safe water confined only to food spawn and water fountains would influence a lot  how the players use the map in their travels. And treated/untreated water is just an example, there are many other game mechanics that could help them work on their product way more than cannibalism.

Having the ability to go Terminus on other humans in this moment is just an unnecessary add-on, nothing seriously hazardous to the game. I'm not really complaining...I'm just puzzled (again) by the priorities of the developing team. They're professionals, it's strange when they overlook such issues.

Well, in 0.50 stable there are no generic Brain Disease.

BrainFlu is distinct disease, and it is activated. You can get it from any Zombie attack, BrainFlu disease chance is random 1%.

BrainFlu has 6 stages, from Latent to Terminal, with messages

"I'm feeling hot","I'm burning up","I'm slick with sweat","My clothes are soaking with sweat","I feel cold","I start to shiver","I feel shivery","I'm shivering".

Kuru Brain Disease for cannibals is currently a placeholder, is not activated, with different Character Madness stages.

So it seems punishment for cannibals would be severe madness and death because of it.

Off:   Zombie infection virus itself is not currently present in the game. By its effects it looks like more as FEV Mk III.  (Forced Evolution Virus  Mark III.)

Zombies are far more superior beings than normal undeveloped mortal humans, first, zombies do not have soul, it was destroyed during initial stage of infection, so they don't feel soulache.

Zombies have hive mind, communicate telepathically wast distances, and don't fight or eat each other. And so on,    lol.

I have a suggestion why zombies kill humans, even they don't need to eat human brains or anything.

This. Nothing wrong with being able to eat humans in game but it should come with enough downsides to rather search and hunt a deer or go fishing for a while. Maybe once infections are in...

To think off all the times I have gone hungry running alongside another player who earned an axe to the neck and I let them go.

I really like this idea I seen on reddit about cannibalism in dayz. Basically his idea is that your toon must be starving before skinning and consuming human meat becomes available, but once you do you can be cannibalistic any time.

Here't the link worth a look.

Cannibalism... Not even once...

Its really simple...dont like it, dont eat ppl...

It's not quite that simple though. The fact that it's in the game at all means that it affects everyone. Choosing not to eat other people doesn't stop it from happening to you. I think people are more worried about being eaten than eating other people.

Hopefully there are negative effects and it becomes last resort in the future.

Agreed. I'm okay with it being in the game, but there should be consequences that steer you towards other means of sustenance.

Love it. I can't wait to see those strictly-cannibalistic clans emerge.  B)

The eerie gruesomeness that this game has lacked for some time is finally starting to see some light!

I want this game to be sick, twisted, demented, horrific, maniacal, & unsettling (more than it already is).

love it.

For those that are uneasy about the idea, saying that it's sickening & uncalled for -- We can already insensibly murder, restrain, strip, torture, & force feed people. So I don't see the logic in how this specific feature is the one that was "taken too far".

Picture you & 2 other friends wandering the plains of Chernarus, desperately in search of food. The 3 of you are starving to death & there is no sign of any town in any direction. You continue to move aimlessly, & one member of your squad faints. He hasn't eaten in over a week, & he lacks the energy to continue any further. So you decide to advance while your other conscious friend stays to watch your fallen friend, hoping that there is a sign of food over the horizon, but to no avail, your search proves to be fruitless (no pun intended).

You return back to where your squadmate had fainted a bit later, but only for your conscious friend to inform you that he unfortunately passed. The remaining 2 of you realize that you'll soon meet the same fate if you don't act swiftly.

Your stomach grumbles violently. You're not proud of what you're about to do.

It's what your fallen comrade would've wanted....
