Experimental Branch: 0.51 Discussion

Recommended Posts

Hey, has anyone noticed if the mp-133 pump shotgun in glitched, in that it doesn't really cause damage to players. Hand an encounter where I got one shot in, then ran up and got 2 more shots point blank. He then shot me once, and that's when I realized it was messed up. I ran away and he continued to shoot me several times times which only gave me a fracture..and ruined my equipment, no bleeding. Is it the same bug as the double barrel from several months ago?

I just want to see what other people say before I report it.

Well, that happens every time a new experimental patch/new iteration of an old patch goes online...there's a lot of people playing experimental, and only a very limited number of servers avalaible. That means a lot of spawn zones are literally scorched areas: a lot of people spawn in, loot and move out. Some more spawn and pick the place clean. Some die and respawn here, someone log in and spawn there...and so the coast (the area where most of the spawn areas are) becames a deathtrap.

The only way to counter this problem is scout briefly the area where you spawned and then go straight inland - especially if you spawn in or near big cities, where everyone and his dog will go hoping to find clothes or food. Go inland and try to stick to smaller, out of popular area towns. When you're geared, try hunting or fishing (if you've found the right equipment) or try scavenging in medium-sized towns.

Good advice for players new to Experimental. I would say that this should be stickied somewhere, but at the same time I don't want everyone to know because that makes it harder on me :p

Has anyone found the sawed off mp shotgun that has pistol grips in this patch? i haven't seen it anywhere  <_<

A few players found it and posted shots here in this thread. It's usually in police stations and share the same spawn as the MP5k. (So check police cars too.)

Theres two things bothering me on exp. As someone who mostly play on evenings I found myself playing nightime only and beside that my characters reset couple of times a day...

Thing I learned is moving inland as soon as possible, don't bother looting coastal spawn areas. Just get yourself a melee weapon, pick some apples and run towards smaller villages inland. Also mosin seems super rare suddenly, still haven't found one since 0.51 exp.

Does it spawn anywhere else? or is the highest spawn rate in police stations and cars mostly?

Tomatoes, apples, blue and red berries cannot give enough calories to survive if the character is even remotely active.

Confirmed - I tried to survive from tomatoes but I had to stuff myself to even get out of the hungry state. Then the server restarted and wiped all my plants. Trapping has the same issue.

You can still survive long enough to scavenge until you find what you need to survive, if you can't, well you are doing something terribly wrong.

I survived from Electro all the way to Novo eating berries and apples.

Point is horticulture is not a viable survival strategy. I survived on the other stuff I found though.

One question to the new shotgun: Is there any difference in handling or did they continue the tradition of fixed attachments (buttstocks, handguards etc.) doing nothing at all?

It's not?

I spawned in 3 Valleys and walked to Polana finding no canned food.

I found seeds, a farming hoe and fertilizer. I proceeded to use these things to make 600 tomatoes. This allowed me to loot then I found a machete, matches and shotgun shells for my shotgun and then I could hunt.

And that was without even needing to eat at an apple tree or berry bush once.

Its not because you are pushing your luck by relying on it - server restarts will completely wipe your plants. So while works vs. reward might be positive including the risk is not.

They do not restart that often and its certainly a  "viable" mechanic if not as convenient as a bag of rice or preferred by most.

And that is why they are working on persistence but to tell others that they shouldn't do this is just, well, stupid.  When and if the devs decide that they truly want to make DayZ an actual survival game, they have shown that haven't really been trying, relying on horticulture and hunting is going to be just as viable as playing a scavenger.

I don't think it spawns elsewhere. I heard it also spawns at heli crash sites, but those are more rare than the random police car spawns, so better try the police stations first.

Good luck on your search, Yagami Light!!  B)

I can't wait for this, relying on hunting, farming, and fishing will be a glorious day.

Finding cans of food or bags of rice should be a uncommon occurance. Considering with a real apocalypse those would be the first things gone from looting.

Buuuut they will be the first things you'll most likely want to find to help get you on your way, aside from picking berries and apples.

Sorry for pointing out that horticulture is unviable in 0.51 because it's not yet persistent.

Everyone: Horticulture is working perfectly and won't totally wipe your plants on server restart. Also all hitbox desync errors are fixed, hand to ground interaction works flawlessly and vehicles are fun to drive!

And Flecktarn is totally not called "flecktran".

Realistically not really considering most people would just die for gameplay reasons it'd suck dick but realistically there'd be houses full of food due to unprepared people getting mauled by mobs of zombies and people not finding the houses because they're not confined to a relatively small area with magical borders and emptiness past them.

So what's new in this build? Can't really be bothered playing Experimental it's annoying being killed all the time when you're searching for new items or features >.>

I love the current rarity of food items - I wandered around quite a lot in search of food, a weapon with ammo, good clothes and tools etc. Much better than the mindless running in stable after you found everything you needed within 10 minutes after spawning. At this rate I expect I have to go fishing or hunting to reach the healthy state.

I think farming should be more like a planned food stash - you plant your seeds but they will take quite some time (maybe a couple of days) to grow into plants that provide fruit. More of a feature that makes you come back to the place rather than one that makes you stay and watch them grow.

Definitely though it needs to not be restricted to greenhouses. Since a clan can just go round every greenhouse and be guaranteed to find bases or nobody would use them due to that.

Greenhouses should either grow things faster or grow better foods, given the risk.

Also you mean in game days right? It'd suck balls to have to wait several real world days to get 8 tomatoes that will stop you starving for all of 10 minutes, if that. If an in game day was 3-4 hours and it took 3 days, that would be cool you'd have to play and survive a long time to get food back and if you want to leave then come back for no risk someone might have found it, or if you wait too long it could rot.

I enjoy this game most on those loot deprived exp builds where it's a challenge to get off the coast without starving... Can't till this download finishes

It's a blast.  Started off in Solnichniy, ran to Kamyshovo to meet a buddy.  Scrounged up what we could there, which wasn't much.  I found a sledgehammer and we picked apples as we started north from there.  Made it to Msta and it was picked clean as well.  Hunger was in the red and I was starting to freeze with no way of getting warm.  Just been picking apples and chilling there and that's where we ended the night.  We'll pick it up again tomorrow and see where our journey takes us.
