sabrewulf 4 Posted October 7, 2014 In reality every house would have tins/cans of food, fluid as well. Every garage would have tools you could use as weapons. There would be bicycles/skates/skateboards at virtually every house. I could go on but ill leave it to the rest of you for now. Oh wait lets run for hours cos there is no gasoline. If gas ran out tomorow id jump on my bicycle and outride any zombie even if i had no tires. Bedtime for me but people need to think before they use the word realism or realistic.

Whyherro123 2283 Posted October 7, 2014 If you didn't understand, the game is set a while after the apocalypse had started and most of the supplies have been looted. If you understood just how long it takes for vegetation to both grow and rot, you would, in fact, realize it is impossible for it to have been longer than a week since the SHTF. Case in point: abundance of fresh produce (also, produce that we can't see grown in gardens), especially vegetables and fruit that are especially high in water, like tomatoes, zucchini, cucumber, kiwi, etc. These things would rot faster than others. Plus, there is tropical fruit in (relative) abundance. These fruits would not grow in Chernarus at all, and especially not during the time of year where Day Z takes place (mid-Autumn) Therefore, it stands to reason that they were shipped in, which, in turn, means that intercontinental trade must have occurred very recently. In my house in New England (which is literally the same environment [Temperate Deciduous Forest], latitude, and regional conditions [ climate moderated by large bodies of water, etc]), I can't keep a bunch of bananas "good" for longer than a week, maybe two if I put them in the fridge. As there is no working refrigerators currently in Chernarus, it means these bananas came in less than a week ago.

Heeeere's johnny! 69 Posted October 7, 2014 You must not forget that this is still a game and ment to be fun. If it was made "as realistic as possible", it would be a training program for the military or whatever, but the fun factor would be way too short. Also, as this is a game, there must be sacrifices in order to keep it "playable". Not only is it close to impossible to replicate reality in all its details in a virtual environment, but this would also take so much power and CPU/GPU capacity that it wouldn't be playable anymore on a PC or console. And finally, THIS GAME IS STILL IN ALPHA STATE!!! I'm sorry, but as there's sooooo many people complaining about the "non-realisticness" and instability and lack of "things you can do", I almost begin to see this complaint in every comment about reality or bugs. Even Dean Hall himself said "We cannot make it realistic, but we can make it authentic" (couldn't find the video right away). So, don't be too nitpicky on "reality" of this ALPHA STATE game. Be patient, participate in the development by reporting bugs and discussing and giving feedback about implemented features and suggestions etc. And finally, have a nice Play!Johnny

Trust me, I know how fast vegetation, plants and fruit grow, I used to live on a farm. This is a game afterall, and judging by the car wrecks being so rusty, it's definately not a week since shit hit a fan. More like couple years.

AshleyP 121 Posted October 7, 2014 If you understood just how long it takes for vegetation to both grow and rot, you would, in fact, realize it is impossible for it to have been longer than a week since the SHTF. Perhaps that's the reason for the sudden cold snap - the developers are trying to rationalise the persistence of oranges by making it so that the environment is just above freezing. That might explain why the zombies keep attacking you. They're actually trying to hug you, to keep warm. But because they're zombies it comes across as aggressive flailing. All the more reason for this game to have molotov cocktails and/or a flamethrower.
irishroy 1347 Posted October 7, 2014 in reality you would be "unable" to eat anything after a certain time, because your teeth will get bad and start to rot/hurt..

Or the lack of overgrown lawns, perfectly painted buildings, unbroken fences, etc. Just because a car is rusty, doesn't mean it has been sitting there for several years. The fruit are just another unrealistic aspect, just like some other things. I think devs didn't think much when adding bananas and such. Potatoes, tomatoes, etc are understable, since they could be picked in a garden and left there by another survivor.

They change stuff all the time. i think realism is a moving target at this point.
dirrly 70 Posted October 7, 2014 ...perfectly painted buildings... I don't know but if my house is painted fresh... it lasts years until the paint is gone. ^^ Explain the fruit then. In reality there would be no fresh fruits, right. But it's a game. Who cares. ^^

Hey,I've spent some time in the kind of Eastern European countries this game is set. A rusted or burnt out car isn't that uncommon a sight in a village right now, let along after a zombie apocalypse. I once saw a rusted up old car attached to a pair of donkeys and being pulled along like some kind of wagon. It turned out that was the mobile fast food truck too. It funny, for me, and I think a lot of the players, the zombies are the worst part of the game and it'd be more fun without them!
