sachad 1016 Posted October 6, 2014 Recently I've been enjoying a run on Hardcore, playing mostly on servers with at least 20 players. In that time I have been shot or attacked at a few times, but only once was it a shoot-on-sight situation. The other times it was due to, shall I say, 'breakdown in communication'. I've had more peaceful encounters there in two days than I did in my last two weeks on Regular. I thought about it, and my guess is one of the main reasons is that Hardcore mode is a bit more challenging, and therefor discourages the lamest of players and generally attracts people who want to play DayZ and not CoD: Chernarus. There's still plenty of bandits out there, but they appear to be less murderous as opposed to bandits on Regular.
BugZ (DayZ) 49 Posted October 6, 2014 This is your luck. I allways kossing on harcore servers and I encounter many people kossing to me. Even if I have only one bullet in my gun I will do everything to kill you I dont care if you freshspawn or fully geared. So basically you are just lucky.
Tactical Nuke 47 Posted October 6, 2014 All the friends I have made online have generally been made on hardcore, I'd tend to agree with you on this.
scriptfactory 620 Posted October 6, 2014 I have noticed that my encounters on Hardcore servers have resulted in me being KoSed less since I generally get the drop on other players. It seems that most Hardcore players are oblivious to their surroundings.
Calvin Candie 189 Posted October 6, 2014 I have over 200 hours on hardcore. KoS is lower as it is impossible to hide behind obstacles and stalk people. But there are still killers who shoot on sight. So I would not draw a definite line here.KoS is a mindset not a circumstance.
yazar8 584 Posted October 6, 2014 (edited) After reading this thread I felt like going to the hardcore servers. The bambis there love to have a punch fight, they started it. Killed 2 guys with my fists. Later on I go to Elektro, I see the firestation and I climb on top of it, there are no mosins around so I'm completely safe, I see people chasing eachother with axes and shotguns etc. The server crashes, I join another one and I'm on top of the fire station. My first impression is "wow there's no one here" Then I hear a bullet right passing my ear. I quickly go to prone stance. I say, "who's that shooting me?" I see the guy there, he is holding the shotgun and I say "be cool man" he says a negative thing, I can't remember what exactly at the moment. He shoots again, misses, I start making fun of him, saying harsh words, such as. "When they try to measure your IQ they get a minus number." "You are so retarded, you are like sugar trying to swim." The guy keeps shooting me meanwhile, few shots hiting me, some are not. I hear the guy reloading right under me, I say, "ey you can't shoot me from there idiot" He spends too many ammo on me, I say , " hey dude I got shotgun ammo for you, want me to throw it down so you can shoot me?" I get so bored as some point, I say, "okay I'm not moving, come on kill me." I also say, "my friends are coming with AKMs and M4's I really feel sorry for you ass mate." Later on I say "this is not dayz mod bro you can't kill a guy on top of the fire station with a shotgun, you need a mosin." I call him over to a duel, "get your sorry ass here, I wanna fight you!" I decide to go one stair down, then I see he's wandering around trying to get the right angle on me. I go one more stair down at the fire station, so I'm at the small roof and the last one which you can climb. I actually thought there was a ladder there so I could run away, but there was not. Anyway I see the guy at the tower, he's trying to shoot me. I say "those windows are bullet proof you idiot" (not sure if they are though) I think he believed me, he got up and he transferred himself from the tower to the roof with the old ladder trick, now he's on top of me, few more shots fired, oh meanwhile before he came to the tower he also killed a bambi. So he's top of me now, he shoots a few more bullets, he says "okay now you're dead" I say, "alright then" The other second he's on top of me, literally, mid air. He accidentally fell off the roof and broke his leg, died. I am laughing irl at the moment, I open direct chat and say "eyeyeyey, see who's dead, see what happens when you fuck with me man?" I get his gear, I climb up. I see another guy, pointing the gun at me, the shotgun doesn't work for a reason so I check his inventory if he has another weapon, got a pistol. I take it out, boom, broken leg. Meanwhile a bambi comes, Russian accent. He has an axe, kills me and says "good my friend" He was the most friendliest player I've seen at that run. Conclusion. It was fun and stress killing. Edited October 6, 2014 by Yazar8
Evil Minion 943 Posted October 6, 2014 I didn't notice much of a difference. Maybe its less KoS because the "S" part is less trivial? In fact first person only is actually better for PvP (no peeking) so it should attract more people who want to play "CoD: Chernarus".
billyjo 9 Posted October 6, 2014 Come to Novodmitrovsk when the FOG clan is in town... We require a heavy toll if you want to explore our town and most end up paying with their lives! Punisher
Steak and Potatoes 13480 Posted October 6, 2014 I find my interactions on HC servers to be more in depth and less bang, bang. I personally feel alot of HC players have a more complex RP side to them. However as stated and I do agree with there is a lot of luck involved with those your come across.

IReadTheAgreement 313 Posted October 6, 2014 If there was a CoD: Chernarus it would be in first person mode. Because, you know, CoD is in first person. Anyway I don't notice a difference between the two types of servers. I've played a lot on both and the amount of friendlys and KoSers are pretty equal in my experience. sachad 1016 Posted October 7, 2014 Well, my luck ended. Logged in inside the Severograd factory. 3 seconds later I hear footsteps so I take my sawed-off out, some guy with full camo and a skull mask comes from behind a corner with an axe and starts coming at me with the damn thing raised so I shoot both barrels pretty much a point blank range, he doesn't even bleed and 1 second later I come down with a bad case of split cranium. Grundlesmuggler 41 Posted October 7, 2014 Yeah OP seems lucky. Lots of KoS'ing. But there is more friendly interaction too.

Caboose187 (DayZ) 3036 Posted October 7, 2014 (edited) You don't get KoS'd on 1st person servers as often because you are harder to spot. There is no wall peeking or birds eye view peeking while being prone on the roof like on 3rd person servers. Players are more, well mostly more, cautious on 1st person servers. PongoZ 127 Posted October 7, 2014 hmm, may be something in this.It is far easier to disengage as well, I bumped into someone in the sw baracks at nw airfield and as soon as I saw him I just raised my cz rifle and took a quick shot missed by at least 30 ft and he said something conciliatory on open as he disengaged, I disengaged, and I told him on direct what I had looted and what was still available as I left. But we had just bumped into each other, 2 of the 3 guys on the server...But it was easy to disengage but hard to tell if you were being followed. I just stumbled into a 1st person server a few days ago and ended up growing a character in one and quite like it. After a few hours you look at the ground way more imersively then you do in 3rd. Ramblin Hans 118 Posted October 7, 2014 Having played both, I feel that is a myth. I always heard it though, and kept going to HC servers to try and RP a bit, but no dice. People will kill you there same as anywhere else.
BeefBacon 1185 Posted October 7, 2014 Yeah, I pretty much only play hardcore now. I don't think I've been shot at in hardcore either. Ran into a guy in a village near NWAF. He says "I'm friendly" I say "Yeah, me too, no worries". We go our separate ways. He never shoots at me. I saw him get his gun out but he didn't follow me. Seems fair since I was holding my crossbow when we met. In a regular server he probably would have been watching me over a wall only to shoot me in the back as I run by. I like hardcore... or third-person as it has been renamed...

solodude23 649 Posted October 7, 2014 (edited) The question is why tho? What is it about 1st person servers that players tend to be not so, shooty? Is it the lack of the all seeing camera view? Is it a more mature crowd? Both in a sense, though I'm not sure it has to do with maturity. In 3PP it's easier to secretly stalk players from behind cover and thus ambush/KOS them without them ever knowing what hit them, making KOS a more likely scenario. In turn, this probably makes it more attractive to those who wish to play in this manner. Overall in 1PP the "situation playing field" is more fair and balanced and thus players are less likely to be confrontational off the bat. Before people jump all over me and say, "But everyone can do it!", I mean that 3PP gives players who are behind cover a huge advantage over those who are not behind cover, making it easier to pop out and shoot without much risk. In 1PP cover still has an advantage, but it is not amplified to the extent that it is in 3PP because in order to stalk someone you have to at least poke your head out, likely more than once. Does this mean 1PP is harder? Not necessarily, but I believe it gives combat a more realistic feeling and gives a greater advantage to those who move tactically. In playing 3PP I am more likely to spot others, but I'm also more likely to be spotted (without having a chance to see the guy). In 1PP I'm almost never spotted and nearly 100% of the time I see the other player before he sees me. :) Edited October 8, 2014 by solodude23
kakysas666 191 Posted October 8, 2014 I never KOS in hardcore, I just fight for democracy and sometimes casualties happen.
soulfirez 901 Posted October 8, 2014 Id say there is still a good chance of being KoSed on a first person server but i do feel it slightly less than being on a 3pp server. 3pp really gives a huge advantage to the camper allowing to be completely hidden and with the cameras elevated position a very good high viewing position ( in first person you need to actually go to a high spot to get a high view which can make you visible). So although camping still gives great advantage in first person ( camping always will 3pp or 1pp) i feel the restricted view seems to premote you to move around more and as such while moving through cities its quite likely to not even spot people who would easily have been seen in 3pp( eg over walls etc) Now those of a mentality to KoS will still do it in 1pp but now there job of spotting a victim has been made harder by reduced situational awareness. Harder to stalk someone and shoot them in the perfect spot with a much greater chance of losing sight of your prey. That leads to one of my theories ( and it is a crackpot one) KoS is so popular ,exciting action in general and that is why 3pp is so popular with the increased situational awareness much easier to spot people so the chances of a kill or a gunfight is increased ( basicly much more chance for some arcade fun which is understandable many people play for fun and 3pp gives them the action quicker more often than 1pp).
