Experimental Branch: 0.50 Discussion

Recommended Posts

On a lighter note, I saw this in Exp. build.

Have one with just one zombie chasing a cow, this was cool though. Sorry about the crap footage, i was getting the movement bug like crazy.

"No but seriously this patch is broken, it took me five runs of the nwaf and still not have a gun on fresh servers to realise it is completely broken."

It is not completely broken (I have three fully geared characters, 2 on 1pp servers and 1 on 3pp servers) and most of your post only contained passive aggressive attacks on the dev team over an experimental build not specific problems outside of lack of loot and guns.

I acknowledged the bugs, but im sorry to say it is perfectly playable and I saw several full servers earlier today.

Sure it's not very attractive to most of the player base in its current state but they've run many tests on experimental that were less playable than this just to get statistics. (Rubberbanding through walls and buildings and off rooftops, extreme lag due to logs to collect data, etc)

It is very difficult to play currently due to the scarcity of loot coupled with increased energy and hydration depletion but not impossible.

Wait, your having trouble server hopping?

Maybe the loot is randomly spread across military installation to stop people living at the airfield and make them explore the map?

I've also never gotten the movement bug, but got a freelook bug once, double tapped alt and fixed it.

Are you sure you experienced a bug? If you double tap ALT the camera goes into free-look mode and double tap (as you did) to turn off free-look mode.

Yeah.. but if they put this Experimental build in Stable without balancing things a bit first.... well... i hope they have a very deep bunker to hide into...because is going to be riots in the streets, WW3...the end of the world..

I actually agree with you. Releasing this particular build directly to Stable as-is would be a huge mistake. Personally, I don't believe they're daft enough to do that. The general process has been that a given version (0.xx) will stew in Experimental for at least a few weeks and see several smaller updates before being considered for a Stable release, and I don't see any reason why they would diverge from that with 0.50. There have been exceptions to that rule, but they have generally been smaller or less buggy builds to begin with (not like 0.50).

Dude.. you are the one with "Superiority Complex". Me like a lot of other people can't even find a pair of trainers.. never mind a nice axe. I literately went in every single possible direction yesterday, tried every single trick in the book.. and died of starvation every single time... didn't even found a hat...

I had to eat apples and berry's for the first hour. Because I dont want to die and dont expect the game to hand me life, I earn that shit. I punch death in its smiling face and tell it no, not today bucko.

I have no clue why you have duct tape or the gas stove as both are non functional at the moment. But you are also proving that the story of some characters is death.

No, you don't get it.. i found all that in the same area in 10 minutes..that backpack...all of it.. so much loot and food that i don't think i moving from that area for a while...is like half of the loot of the server is in there.

And as i said, I spawned in and found nothing for the first two towns I visited in. Yet i survived. I just had to play smarter.

Like i said...some areas have no loot, nada.. nothing... zero...but that specific spawn is like a gold mine.. i have loot coming out of my ears.

Its like you don't read most of what is written. And then proceed to talk about what you want to talk about. And bring up topics and subjects only loosly related to the discussion at hand, but not relevant to the attempts at conversation.

Thank you for your valuable feedback on the .50 experimental experience.

I think you are the one that is not "listening"...or seeing ....so, you think that is right that i "just" spawned and i have all that loot ? after i died of starvation because i could only find one tomato ?..dude... something isn't right with the loot spawn locations, i just showed you the evidence.

Spawn locations?

Loot respawn? Sure its not perfect. My only point has been that it is possible to survive for most spawns even with an absence of loot. Its just harder. This is obviusly not the final verson of how the loot respawn will balance.

However the game seems to be more enjoyable because starving and not having is a motivating factor. Going forwards I hope the game plays more like this and less like the insta-gear pvp deathmatch in Elecktro.

Sure.. so do i..but it doesn't change the fact that some areas have ZERO loot.. i mean.. not even trainers .. or pants...i tried to eat apples, but i was losing calories faster that i could find them..i practically spent 20 minutes just looking for apples.. and i still died.

How do you evaluate server performance with 50/60 people playing together when there's no food respawning to keep the servers full or near full with players?   Or was this experimental build to test how well people like running like chimps?

Regardless of the reason why, I have noticed that there aren't any full servers as far as I can tell. I'll see some with 20 or even 30, but never any more than that I don't think -- not even enough to hit the old cap of 40. That's really unfortunate. It seems that between the difficulty of play and the fact that the servers aren't constantly down this time around, they are having a really hard time filling any of their servers. Perhaps when the loot spawns are tweaked a bit more people will be interested in playing. I know I for one will probably be going to look at a few more spots for potential map changes and then that's it. I'll be going back to Stable until they push a new build of 0.50 sometime next week.

Actually, the 5-8 people you see in the servers are probably the ones that have found the "gold mine".. like i just have, which for my own safety, i don't going to say where it is to i find everything i need.  :P

If your gold mine is where I think it is based on the screenshot, you're fine -- because it isn't the same place I found one ;)

Actually that presents me a unique opportunity to do something good.. and move some of that loot to the south, in the areas that i know is nothing spawning.. maybe even do some hunting a leave cooked meat by the coast.

The Experimental Servers suck.

I've had about six characters in a row die of starvation. Picking apples is an exercise in futility since you can't pick them fast enough to keep you alive. You can't find food because it's not spawning. You can't kill wildlife because before you find a firearm and the appropriate ammunition and the wildlife itself you starve. If it's raining you're fucked because you die of hypothermia because nothing is spawning.

My last Experimental character spawned into Svetlojarsk. It was raining. There were five people on the server. I could not find any matches in the entire city. No food, either. I had to look for it all, so I got Wet. So I got Cold. So I got Hungry. So I Starved

This may not see like a big deal, but when it's raining you'll die of the freezing cold weather unless you can get warm clothing and stay dry, and when you spawn into the game...what I realized is that this game can basically become a roll of the dice as to whether or not you can get your hands on something that will prevent you from succumbing to the elements. An entire city with no matches? I had the place to myself (because nobody plays the Experimental build because it's an Ethiopia simulator) and I still couldn't find something as simple and basic as matches.

It's not about skill most of the time. That's what needs to be avoided. You should always spawn in with a fighting chance. If you spawn into a server, it's raining, and you aren't around some sort of town that can get you matches, an axe, a raincoat, and some food...you are fucked. Survival in a game like DayZ shouldn't be yelling and screaming at your face, wide eyed and with its claws wrapped around your throat while it shakes you ad nauseum without ever letting go. Survival should be standing behind you with a knife, ready to kill you unless you pay it attention and aren't frivolous. Survival should be riding in the chariot with you as you roll around Chernarus, whispering constantly into your ear "Remember you are mortal, Caesar."

I think that DayZ can learn a lesson from another Zombie Survival game, 7 Days to Die. While they are definitely different...what I've noticed about 7 Days is that you can survive anywhere you spawn in...with effort. You aren't rushing around like a madman, methodically doing everything the exact same way every life...you have options and with some basic planning you can make it. Different game, more crafting mechanics, different focus of an experience...but still I think that DayZ survival can take a few queues from it for the better. In 7 Days...you start with nothing. But you can get things. You can make things. You can create things. You can survive because you create, not just loot.

DayZ "survival" isn't fun. It's not engaging. It's not challenging. It's downright frustrating. It's punishing. Challenging and difficult make for enjoyable, memorable experiences. Losing to an enemy that cannot be fought once you spawn into the game is frustrating. I shouldn't have to sit underneath an apple tree for half an hour to hopefully find more calories in a luck of the draw action prompt to stave off starvation.

Survival should challenge you. It shouldn't punish you.

Sorry how did you come to the conclusion i was server hopping or are you just being stupid.

Please explain your psychic powers to me, how do you know i was switching server which is nearly impossible on experimental even if i was because they all reset around the same time.

Please explain you genius, or is it just a guess ??
