Experimental Branch: 0.50 Discussion

Recommended Posts

It's outrageous if you can't place comments like this on a board for an Alpha game.

do you know what alpha means? alpha means NOT balancing the implemented mechanics to its best, this is the workingprogress in beta.

alpha is just for implementing things, not polished them also to final status, just wait for beta, major new things will not more beeing implemented, existing mechincs will then be fixed, polished and pushed to final status.

Only 2 CTDs today. Yay! Unfortunately one was just as I had dropped my backpack to wring it out. Luckily I managed to find the server again, and has not been plagued by crashes since.

I fear, though, that my character is suffering from diabetes. He is constantly getting thirsty, and to such a degree that he has to fill up his belly to the point of vomiting just to get to light green hydrated. Still, he gets thirsty shortly after, and thus has little room in his stomach for food.

Yes please , why are we the only two asking for these ?  Are they posted somewhere else ?

Because you two are the only ones that don't know that there are no official patchnotes for experimental updates :)

As Tatanko said, reddit is the place for you to check out the unofficial ones.

I find the whole "searching for apples" thing ridiculous.

In real life I never had to "search for apples" while standing in front of an apple tree. I have never "not found a thing", when standing in front of an apple tree that has apples on it, and tryiong to pick one. It makes absolutely no sense. Well... maybe if you are visually impaired.

I just look at a tree from a distance and I can see whether it has apples on it or not.

I can understand that game engine wise it is not doable to generate individual apples on each tree.

BUT they could change the system that is currently in place to something like:

1) I Walk up to a tree and from a distance of 5 meters or so I get the option to "look for apples"

2) After having done that I get one of 2 messages

A: There are apples on this tree

or

B: There aren't any apples on this tree

3) If B then I proceed to another tree

If A then I have the option "pick an apple", which can either turn out fresh or rotten (rotten because sometimes the halve of the apple that you can't see is rotten or 'gnawed' on by bugs or birds. But all in all you should get way more fresh apples than rotten apples.

This would make the system much more logical and also would apply to berries or whatever which stuff they will implement with horticulture.

I wouldn't be surprised if we end up with a more rational system in the future where trees actually do have apples or not at any given moment. I'm guessing the current system of just having a random chance is a placeholder.  Really though, it's not so bad, you can pick berries to your heart's content from a single bush at the moment, enjoy it while you can.

Also, as people have pointed out, if you have other critical needs tugging at you (like cold) don't waste too much time on foragables. Use them to augment your diet when you just happen across a bush in your path or perhaps most importantly when you are actually "starving to death" to prolong your life. Thinking you can use them to create significant energy-level change is a serious misappropriation of resources.

Knifes need to be more common. As common as a book really. Every house has a knife.

It's easier to find .380 auto ammunition in houses than a knife or a can opener.

Agreed. That was something I found in abundance the other night, but of course nothing to use it in anyway.

The sticky movement key bug is making the game unplayable for me.

Getting this bug literally every few seconds while using any movement keys. I'm unable to even remotely control my players movement.

I keep hearing about this and it still has yet to happen it to me. The only complaint I really have at the moment is the sliding doors to the warehouses etc. need a new sound sounds very un-authentic with current sound implemented on them. Also the loot spawn seems a little funky at it's current state...I stand corrected it happened to me i just pushed a key movement in opposite direction and it fixed it though. Zombies hitting me through walls...

So, even if you scavenge a fully geared bandit you can´t survive?

I think that them devs need to turn som knobs and pull some levers before the experimental gets deserted by all.. right?

I spent my first day off in two weeks trying to have a funny and challenging session with my two friends... now no-one of us has enough spirit to log in until next patch to see what has improved. This sux at the moment

I'm still alive and kicking, Rambo only had like 3 cans of peaches, rags, screwdriver, mosin ammo and a rain coat in his backpack. I was able to make it to the next town west before I had to forage for apples until I found a food spawn. You can definitely survive on the meager offerings of the coast but it is tricky

Yes I have been surviving as well off the coast. At least until 4 zombies ran up in the pub in Elektro...It was an epic battle on multiple proportions considering I only had a screw driver for defense. Great death and experience. I like it when games have a true challenge it's what keeps me in this game besides spawning variables its all relying  on pure skill and tactics. Which is what I enjoy besides the whole simulation experience. Please someone implement a new sound for the sliding doors I really enjoy the authenticity aspects of this game and the current sound is not at all authentic. Run animation is terrible I hope it's some kind of sick joke on the community by the developers because of all the whiners. It doesn't seem like a properly human run stance.. I would also like to see a make shift spear of some sorts as well..maybe take a bunch and combine with a hole(dug by shovel) to make a punji stake pit(after they fix camo 3-d model maybe even use leaves as camo for trap, which this could also be implemented as camo for a bear trap as well) It is a  old school way of hunting and is still widely used in some countrys.

Some of the items I have found have been in tricky places. Almost like someone was trying to hide them before they past away due to apocalypse. At least that's what i grasp by some of the locations which gives it more authentic meaning.

Verifying my game files has helped me with the movement bug :) Try it, maybe it works for others too!

Has anyone noticed how more common/easy it is to find a wrench? I'm finding them like crazy in sheet metal warehouse buildings.

Some items are spawning on ceilings.. I have a picture in my steam library. So be sure to look up people.

That and hammers. Screwdrivers have seemingly been nerfed while Duct Tape is still available to all. I thought I had read somewhere that in the near future these tools will actually become something of value as we start into the basic base building / barricading mechanics.

So, just for shits and giggles, I will start playing Home Depot on my "home" server and just start collecting.

I know it'll all get wiped eventually but a couple of tool runs can help me establish a route where the most common things may be found, once experimental isn't quite so screwed up anymore ^^

You know spawning of items will be changed again by then. I edited my last post to inform everyone to start looking up for items just a heads up some stuff is spawning on ceilings.

Well the game has finally crashed on me. It's about time for how many times I heard it was an issue

aight...

things u need to know about exp atm..

tents still are dry..

jails and fire stations are still breaking legs above ground lvl... (first 2 jails broke my legs and ruined my pants etc)

could not obtain a energised or hydrated effect without being stuffed...

movement thru the game is epic.. u run like a ape and burn the calories to do it!!! MAKE SHAW U HAVE ALOT OFFF FOOD)

overall fps... sketchy to say the least no improvement except I noticed a double to fps inside buildings.

didn't see a heli crash or cop car so cant confirm that there back spawning above ground etc.

I FOUND AN AK HANDGAURD IN A BARRACKS THO SO MAYBE BIPODS ARE COMING BACK!!!!!!!!!!!...need more time.

ANYWAYS HAPPY HUNTING and remember... survival is real and is easily done with warm clothing a knife and an animal in your sights...how u choose to burn the calories is up to you!

Maybe its just my demented way of thinking but wrenches may he useful once we get some wheels to fix up. I imagine once that happens they will become scarce, much like hacksaws or mp5 buttstocks.

I have also noticed loot in some different spots in .50, usually I find clothing/footwear under beds. Now I'm also finding food and weapon spawns there. I know weapons can spawn in these spots but finding bags of rice and beans under a bed was a new one on me. Most of my usual loot spots are either empty or spawn glowsticks now. Gonna try again when I get home from work, I'm gonna have to review my looting practices to accommodate the limited food and items situation

Iv not had this sticky keys problem people are talking about but iv had absolutely aweful luck finding food. I dont want loads, but enough to just about get me through to finding things to hunt with. Had to switch back to stable because of this. Im sure it will be tweaked however.

Got ~400h in the Standalone, that being said:

Out of my eight lives in 0.50, seven times I`ve been starving to death and one time I got murdered whilst drinking from a pond.

I´m suffering a lot from the messed up controls, can´t play five minutes without getting stuck on movement keys. Didn´t remap any keys since I started playing, verifying my client data didn´t help with the movement at all, it even brought CTDs.

My experience so far is that if you´re having a lucky spawn you gonna make it but there´s nothing I could have done to stay alive.

Worst Experimental build so far :(

Back to Zomboid til movement/lootspawn will be addressed.

Yeah... loot isn't spawning in the experimental servers, and the places where it could be loot are to far inland, so you die before you can get there... that was happening in the persistent servers in Stable too, but it seems to be worst in 0.50

I'm sure is loot in there.. is just unreachable at the moment.

Uh oh... for real? I haven't had a chance to play since the patch came out on Wednesday, does this mean I just shouldn't even bother attempting with 0.50 tonight?

You can always play for an hour or so.. maybe you get lucky. But i give up after i realize that the farther inland areas are unreachable at the moment.

Played a bit in the PM yesterday and food was all over Severograd and surrounding towns, so loot must be respawning to some extent I would think. That's based on the assumption that loot is still not spawning on server restarts.

Is the same in the persistent servers in Stable..the loot respawn reaches some type of cap, and it becomes harder and harder to find loot. I was ok in the Stable servers, but in the Experimental you die to fast... it needs some balancing.

Well, so far no "sticky" keys here.  Running animation is just lame  :( .  Regarding loot and survival rate: get your ass out of the beach as soon as you can (usual advice huh?), try some berries for starters. That will give you some fuel to make it deeper inside the map.  One thing that is radically different is how rapid you can be hungry and thirsty again.  Burning calories like an old V-8. Up to the North West you will find food, clothes and .380 ammo...lots of them.

Died twice just as I was getting a taste of the 0.50: once of starvation (stayed too long at the coast) and the other from a one hit zombie fist.....weird!....

Main complaint: haven´t seen yet one single "new" thing.

Cheers!
