The Communitys Official Vehicle/Vehicle Idea Thread Version 1.5 (Now with constantly changing polls!)

Official Vehicle Thread Poll Questions

69 members have voted

  1. 1. Would you like to see completely improvised vehicles?

    • Yes! I should be able to make a bike out of a car tire, a unicycle and some sticks.
      11
    • Sure, I should be able to make a go-kart out of some car tires, welded pipes, and some plywood.
      16
    • Sure, I should be able to add a machine gun, sheet-metal armor, extra suspension, and airbrushed paintjobs to an already existing car.
      51
    • Dont care either way.
      1
    • No, should only be able to change out tires, spark plugs, etc. for identical parts.
      13
    • No, cars must be found perfectly working, and if a tire goes out then you need a new car.
      0
    • I dont want vehicles at all.
      2
  2. 2. Thoughts on military vehicles?

    • Yes! I should be able to find tanks and AC-130s easier then normal cars.
      2
    • Sure, include tanks and such but make them incredibly rare.
      16
    • I like military vehicles, but the extent should be a hum-vee with a .50 cal on top, or a chopper with guns mounted to sides.
      30
    • No, MAYBE have the occasional extremely rare hum-vee without gun, or transport truck or something.
      12
    • No, there should be only civilian vehicles.
      3
    • military vehicles should be about equally as common as civilian vehicles (this option should be between 1 and 2)
      1
  3. 3. How many vehicles should there be?

    • There should be working vehicles around every corner.
      1
    • There should be many vehicles everywhere, with about a 50/50 ratio of working to non-working
      2
    • vehicles should be common in large cities, but fairly rare in smaller cities and villages. Most vehicles found should be working.
      4
    • Many vehicles should be in large cities, rare in smaller cities and villages. Most vehicles found should be non-working.
      14
    • Vehicles fairly rare everywhere, but most of ones found should be working.
      3
    • vehicles fairly rare everywhere, most found should be non-working.
      8
    • ADDED OPTION: vehicles rarer in rural areas, very common in cities in the form of large traffic jams, some cars working and some not. These areas filled with zombies so they are very hard to access, but vehicles are common there.

Just curious on how we are to "make a go-kart out of some car tires, welded pipes, and some plywood." All the while "attaching a machine gun, sheet-metal armor, extra suspension, and airbrushed paintjobs".

They were two separate options - one being that we should be able to make new vehicles (essentially) completely from scratch while the other said we should be able to heavily customize cars that already spawn in the world, such as the V3S.

Again, just how are we to do this?  Duct Tape and glue?  Good luck finding a working arc or mig welder.

Well, unless zombies start eating metal that shouldn't be too much of a problem.  You could even 'Bubba' an arc welder using jumper cables and a welding rod.

I dunno, I didn't pick that option. I think it was more of a joke option but I can't be 100% sure.

Maybe this quite a stupid suggestion but maybe being able to do like armored railcarts or just normal ones so u could travel quickly with an engine or a hidraulic system (the first needs fuel, the second ONLY THE TRUE RUSSIAN MUSCLE will put that vehicle rolling), but in a pre diterminated trail (talking about the railway, guys).

Already made this suggestion (in a bit of a different thread):

http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/212565-underground-sectionsareas-of-chernarus-metro-system-caves/page-2

EDIT: When I mean doing I mean like finding non armored railcarts and than upgrading it, changing the hidraulic system for an engine or right the opposite. It would turn to be quite nice way to travel!

EDIT2: Do horses also count as a transport?

It is a good idea to have a diversity among vehicles as it would be more realistic, but non-crashed cars should be rare and/or hard to get working. Nobody wants this game to be GTAV. Also, american cars, sport cars, heavy military vehicles should be a no-go.

As for ideas…cars of course should have a trunk for storage and –for a start- have some basic parts vulnerable, therefor commutable.

Locations should correlate with the number and types of vehicles available.
For example a small village should have a few bycicles, rarely 1-2 motorbike and a very rare chance of a car. [background: suggesting that after the news of the infection, survivers must have used cars to get out of the dangerzone]
Bigger villages/small cities should have multiple bike/motorbike spawns with 2-5 car spawns, all  broke.
Big cities (Cherno/Electro/Novo) should have multiple bike/motorbike spawns with 5-10 car spawns, from which 1-2 would be working, the rest broke.

What i mean by broke is that with time [seeing how rusty most of the cars look like in Chernarus] 1. their batteries should be low or depleted, 2.their tires ruined/flat/have a leak, 3. their electrical circuit damaged, therefor not unable to start the engine and last but not least 4. have an empty fueltank. These are the most common problems with abandoned cars as far as i know. The 1. could be fixed by finding a charged accumulator in supermarkets/barns/petrol stations and simply replace the old one. OR find a rare recharger in garages, use it to recharge the depleted accu and you are ready to go. As with sewing kits, the rechargers should loose condition with every reacharge and be ruined after 3 use or so. Accumulators should spawn mostly half-depleted (worn at least in clothes definitions) or pristine/full with a rare spawn rate. The 2. could be fixed by replacing/pumping/fixing+pumping the problematic tires. [dont forget to have a chance for all 4 tires to be damaged] Replace should be easy by finding tires at fuel-stations or garages, pumping could be done by pumps at fuel-stations or with a bycicle pump, fixing could be done with special glues found in barns/garages/supermakets. Using the vehicle with damaged tires,it would be super-slow. The 3. could be fixed by replacing the circuit with a new one, found in supermarkets. The conditions of all these parts [accumulators/tires/circuits] in vehicles should vary and we can replace them from one another. To put it simple, all the parts should be able to get from other vehicles too. The 4. we are familiar with from the V3S and this thread has a lot of nice ideas for the fuel problem. Bikes should have the same problem with tires, motorbikes should have the same problems as cars, except the battery.

Implementing these broken parts should bring some balance between the number of car spawns and the useability of them. Somewhat a lot of cars, but hard to make them work.

Car-spawns could be random along roads and in cities, just as heli-crash site or be like static spawn points with different chances. Bigger chance in cities, less in villages, even less on roads.

As for the meta-game problem, the parts should NOT be able to change servers.

The next step would be customizing your vehicles, like having a separated inventory-part for the upgrades. These upgrades would have different purposes, like storage, defense, offense, etc. I’m ok with this idea as long as it would work as crafting.

For example: Hammer+Metal Scrap+Welder = Reinforced armor plates = more durability.

I like your ideas. Your ideas of spawning sound pretty accurate. The only one I did not like is I think cities like Cherno and elektro should have more then you suggest. I think that the larger cities should have lots of cars, most of them with broken components but some working too, maybe at a ratio of like 80% to 20%. Some of the larger roads should be filled with cars, again mostly broken. Once the infection began and the situation began to get out of hand, tons and tons of people would be fleeing the cities in an attempt to leave the country. There would be major gridlock on the major roads. There should be many cars here and in cities, but also more zombies. If zombies were on the roads in the traffic jam, the people would have no escape or they would get out and try to run, and be infected. There should be huge hoards of zombies in these areas to make it extremely hard to acquire a vehicle from here, making it require stealth, teamwork, and some decent firepower to get a vehicle this easily.

I liked the ideas on basic problems most of the cars would have. I have a few comments on them though.

1: everything you suggested on this one I liked, I would like to add the ability to jump start a car. You would have to do this every time until a new battery was found or a charger was found.

2: This is obviously going to be there, but I don't think it should make the car undriveable. It should drive slower and maybe will lean a little one way or the other, but a car is still driveable even with a broken tire.

3: Also good, but if the car is a manual transmission, which lots of European and Russian cars are, they can be push started. This is the same with ATV's, dirt bikes, and anything else with a manual tranny in it. With a small vehicle like the ATV/dirt bike it can just be pushed by a person, but a car would probably need a hill or something to get it going fast enough. (if you don't know what push starting is, its where you get the vehicle moving at a decent speed by pushing or rolling, then you give it some gas and then shift it into first gear, this works for any vehicle with a manual transmission in it.)

4: this one is obvious. no comments here.

Everything else I like, great ideas I will be adding all of these to the list. Keep it up.

Hi,

I know this is not really the correct topic, but I want to talk about my wet Dayz car dream

I would love a proper sportscar in Dayz to race the curly roads. It would be awsome to find an old Porsche in a barn.  Just a two seater thats fast and hard to control and drives awfull ofroad.

sorry for my crappy English

Just looked didn't see a vehicle thread considering different types.

What about jeep, Humvee military type. Pickup truck, bus, and or my supped up Nova :) Black in color please, with one huge engine.... When I press the E key I get to rev the engine up.

I know we have smashed ones, but having a mixture of different types makes it seem like a normal world.

I can't tell if you're asking for more just static wrecked vehicles, or for more driveable ones, or what...

Mind elaborating on this a bit for me? :)

Listen kid, more vechles are planned, but not in the near future. Don't worry, you'll get your pickup trucks and you'll be able to rev them, buut not for around a year or so.

Listen kid,

that seems a bit hypocritically hostile.

Anyways, to answer OP, new land vehicles are coming 2nd-3rd quarter of this year IIRC. Including most the things you mentioned. (Nova is a bit iffy. ^_^)

Yeah, I'm still here, but sadly not as much as you might've noticed. I've become a staff on a Gmod server, and been busy with their forums and whatnot. Plus schoolwork to take care of, but I still try and get around xD

LoL whom you calling kid son.

Yes asking for more driving types. I know they said driving ones but I didn't hear about other types like jeeps etc.

Wouldn't that be awesome? some giant motor sticking out of the hood, bad ass muffler system off the side. Gawd how I wish I kept that 1970 nova.

Reminding me of my young years.

This thread will sadly not go anywhere and seeing as the vehicles are already in active development this is not a suggestion anymore.

If you have any further questions / additions, But for now make sure that you get familiar with the game and the suggestions around here - as this eliminates duplicate threads.

Hi,

i think it would be cool to have some handcars on rails. It would give them transportation meaning.

What do you think guys?

Also if gasoline would be rare, there should be added biofuel, which you could make, but it would be bad for filters :-)
