I hear you guys but it feels a bit wrong to get killed just to be at another spawn point "the cards have been given so to say", i bet my current "first" character have run 3 marathons so far. I've been in the southwest corner and are currently on the northeast. Sure its a long run from time to time but i don't mind really, rather that then begging to get killed. It kinda ruins the illusion for me that i'm trying to survive even if its only in a game.

 

A lot of things that people are doing out there are wrong on a bunch of different levels- but right for what they're trying to get out of the game. Just filter it like you filter the ability to sprint across the entire country, grow plants in ten minutes and cure a broken bone with a morphine auto-injector.

Today was rather quiet and serene, for the most part.  I played on a public server and had a magnum, 2 boxes of ammo for it, and some ammo for a shotgun (if I found one).  I realized I was on the coast just outside of Cherno between the city and Balota.  I headed for Balota airfield and scanned the runway for any movement.. nothing.  I cut straight across the middle for the first prison and looted it.  I found a hunters backpack and green camo pants to match my green raincoat (yay).  With the server filling up fast, I decided to head north/north east into the woods with the mindset to hunt and fish for awhile.  I ended up going to the warehouse just north of Balota airfield and looting that and the houses.  I only found a couple cans of food, so I gathered 8 stones, made a stone knife, found a green beanie, and then off I went into the forest N\NE (with no compass).

 

I stayed in the woods for quite some time, looting random houses as I came across them.  I found a deer roaming an open field so I crept up to it with my magnum aimed at it.  I fired two shots to drop it.  I skinned it with my new stone knife and took all of the cuts of meat with me.  I ran into the nearest tree line to make a fireplace.  I added the 8 stones so that I could cook in it before I realized that I had no matches on me!  I was thinking of one of my other characters having it and didn't realize it until now.  

 

So, I took the stones back in search of some houses to loot and I did not take the time to look at town names before looting the houses and so I just kept running in the direction that I assume was N\NE.  I came across a big town in the middle of nowhere with a ton of different sized apartment houses (some like 20 stories tall).  I cannot for the life of me figure out the name of the town according to dayzdb and izurvive but I've SEEN it before.  Anyways, I check it out and see no movement.  I decide to look in the TEC building for some matches as I hear 2 or 3 SKS rounds fire off in the distance.  I quickly run for the nearest cover and look around (by now I am in the middle of the town and don't think he/they were shooting at me.  Just then, a zombie aggro's on me from the field (ugh).  I run to the nearest bush and whip out my pickaxe and dispatch it quickly behind cover.. just.. as.. the corpse slides down the hill and into the open!  ARGH!

 

I go into paranoia mode and run inside the TEC building and shut each door behind me as I go up.  I can swear that I hear walking around outside but see nothing out the windows.  I take refuge behind the furniture on the 2nd or 3rd floor and watch the entrance to the hallway.  I wait 5-10 minutes before I hear crying.. what the heck?  I.. oh wait, that's my daughter waking up from her nap.

I had a good day, didn't die once. Went to the prison island but there wasn't much there, just an Orel jacket. Just as I got back and was warming mysylf by a cosy fire on the beach a guy comes running past and throws himself into the water. I don't know if he saw me or not but I let him be and went to Pavlovo military base. Found an AK74 but it dissapeared as I was switching places with my SKS, Grrr. After running around there for a while I spot a guy. I lay down and check for him but he has friends and they have seen me. I put my gun away, we talk for a bit, i give one some ammo and the let me live :D

 I'm so surprised I just run away and log out.

 

 I log in with another character and meet a with  guy outside Berezino. He tells me his an admin on teh server and is waiting for a friend with a V3S. Soon it arrives and they take off. I make my way south without incident but when I get to Kamyshovo I see the truck in the water. I retrieve it and drive on. Then I hear M4 fire in the woods beside the road. It doesn't seem directed at me so I drive on. I get to Elektro and park the truck in the church.

 

 I decide to call it a night.

i logged in inside a house at the outskirts of cherno, geared and ready to visit prison island. i was opening the dayz map in the steam overlay and..  *are those footsteps?*...  i closed the steam overlay and was promptly greeted with an axe to the face. well..

Im pretty sure that the compass north is pointing towards east, at least in 0.53 stable. So that western edge could be the northern edge. Also i read that the clouds always blow towards the east

I'm not sure if you headed south west from North edge of map instead of west Edge (compass issue) but I think you're up in that top edge near dobroe perhaps?

a fairly large town, with an industrial site next to a cliff? i got geared up fairly quickly, civilian clothing, a repeater with 40 rounds, 60 mosin rounds should i run into one and the basic survival gear.  with no ocean in sight i picked up a compass and headed south-west hoping to find a place i recognized but after 15 minutes or so i found myself at the western edge of te map.. that or the compass was broken. a long hike later i found a small town and logged off, still not sure where i am exactly..

 

 

 

I accidentally made my way here awhile ago- posted this pic at a time where we were around Novo as well and got turned around. 

 

 

 

I ended up putting that on my left and made it to the water. If you can take a picture of your current location and pertinent landmarks I'd like to try to help get you sorted out. You're near the area in the map that I stay in for the most part so I know it pretty well...

Logged on in Pustoshka and walked straight out into the path of a zombie chasing a cow up the street and figured that was my excitement for the day. Then, still in Pustoshka, was looting the supermarket and spotted a gem right outside the main entrance, a V3S, with tyres and wheels and omgit'sav3s!! So I clambered in, started the engine, which was extremely loud (videos I've seen don't really convey how loud it sounds) and headed off on a roadtrip, looking to pick up players and see the world from a whole new perspective... until I got to Vybor... and crashed... into some scaffolding... and somehow got stuck in vehicle. Well thankfully a kind and helpful player shot at me (or the vehicle) and I managed to get out and make a dash for it, shouting over direct comms "This thing is possessed. Save yourself!" Rest of the day was spent wandering the fields, spying on players with my binos (not at all stalkery) and stocking up on supplies.

A couple days ago I was hanging around on Musty and met another player who had recently come back to the game. We had a good chat and decided we'd work together. I told him my buddy Schwab was inbound and to not worry since he is friendly as well. The three of us worked through Musty together but Schwab came in as a fresh spawn for some reason. Clorox and I were in Solnichniy while Schwab ended up eventually spawning in near the factory to the north. He was immediately confronted by a small group and headed south towards us. We heard the shots as we ran north to intercept but confusion occurred almost immediately.

He was lucky and managed to elude the group south of Solnichniy while I worked to catch up- Clorox was closer to him and both were close to three valley by the time I met up with them and was able to pass on some food / water to Schwab. None of us had firearms at that point and were restricted to mid-range melee weapons. I had to leave early after heading inland with these guys. We were heading towards MSTA and eventually got there to explore making bows and arrows... doing a little crafting. I heard from Clorox the next day that they were running through a nearby field when the server crashed so there was no further drama there.

We had also had a chance to get Clorox caught up in our normal server with Chez Eno. He spawned in just east of Elektro and made his way around the "horn" to head north up towards Berezino. Schwab and I ran down to meet him and handed over some gear to tie him over until we found better stuff. He looked a sight what with my UN helmet and extra pink raincoat I had for handing out. There was no drama as we worked our way to Chez Eno- but a server crash ended our time there that night.

Last night Clorox and I met up and turned the lumber mill area east of Berezino upside down just looking for a cooking pot. We'd also looted Nizhnoye to no avail- NOT A SINGLE POT ANYWHERE> ARGH. And don't even get me started about people using their stove top as a storage space... Cans of food were everywhere on the stoves... but not a single pot. I could find 40 raincoats- a hundred wrenches... and chem sticks? Good grief... but not a single pot.

/rant.

Anyway he and I were relatively drama free except at one point he'd gone into the office space at the mill to look around. I had moved off to check some sheds for other things- there were 4-5 other people in the server so I didn't expect contact. Of course, you know the rules... for that very reason I then heard Clorox say, "Wait a minute- there's someone here!"

"Where are you?"

"In the office space."

"I'm coming to you-"

"The guy came at me with an axe but I backed off and pulled out the repeater. He then just said he was friendly and ran off towards the mill." I was around the corner from that and never did get eyes on the guy. It SEEMED like he was friendly... he did back off after all... but the fact he ran at Clorox in the first place made me want to get eyes on him just in case. Unfortunately (or fortunately) the guy never showed up again. The server pop dropped to next to nobody so we used that opportunity to run practically carefree through Berezino looking for a pot that remained elusive. We called it a night at Chez Eno and logged off.

Looking forward to Zombi Hunter coming home tonight so the 4 of us can shake things up in musty!

Edit: on an unrelated note... I had a dream last night that I found a press vest and was really stoked about putting it on and wearing it around my dream. Too much dayz perhaps?

Logged in at the train station outside of what I think is Berezino (Not too sure about the city names yet). Right away I spotted a guy. I went prone, and he didn't see me. He started running along the coast in the direction I was heading, so I followed him but kept some distance between us. Suddenly he turned around and ran back the way he came. I hid behind a bush until he passed. Then I continued on my way, looting some houses here and there. I was running along the side of the road when I looked back and saw a new spawn running the same way I was going. He completely ignored me, so I just ran with him. Then after a while, I saw some movement a few hundred yards up the road. I ran off to the side of the road and started sneaking through the trees, but the new spawn just kept running. I got a decent view point lying prone under a pine tree, where I saw two bandits fighting another guy. The new spawn then joined the fight. I hid under my tree and watched it all go down. I saw someone go down and one of the bandits started punching him in the head. Then another new spawn with a white shirt came running down the road, and he got involved in the fight. Then after a while, the two bandits were the last guys standing. They made their way down the road, and after they got too far away to spot me, I ran up to the area the fight took place. All 3 dead guys had their clothes off and their loot spilled all over the ground. I took a few boxes of ammo, and then I started down the road, hoping I could catch up to the bandits and take them out. After a while, I heard a truck in the distance. I went prone under a pine tree, and saw the truck drive by. I waited until it was out of view, then I continued down the road. I ended up at a small village, where I saw a guy sprint across the road, but I didn't end up seeing him again. I ran until I ended up at a city which I don't know the name of. I looted a few buildings, until I came across a guy with a fire extinguisher, who slowly approached me. I took out my fire axe to scare him off, then I kept looting. I was in a building opening a can of beans, when I see a guy walk up to the store window and stare at me. After a few seconds, he typed "Friendly?" I said yeah, and he replied "Okay." I didn't see him for a bit after that. Suddenly I saw fire extinguisher guy run into the police station, this time with a sledgehammer. I looked into the window, and saw him standing there with the guy I had seen at the store earlier. He said "Hold up, I hear somebody." Then they both ran out, spotted me, and started attacking me. I got a few hits in with my damaged fire axe, but no headshots. We had a melee weapon 2v1 battle for a few minutes, but somehow the sledge hammer guy managed to break my leg. At that point I died of blood loss. I'm guessing me taking out my fire axe led the fire extinguisher/sledgehammer guy to think I was planning on killing him, and that's why he attacked me with the other guy. Either that or they were bandits who just decided to kill me.

I was standing on the little pier along the coastline facing the prison island, ready to take the swim over there. I found a flare gun and 3 flares in the dinghys, so I decided to shoot one in the air for the lulz. Much to my dismay, someone fired a flare from the island itself. I went back to Balota...

Yeah I figured it was a bad move from the word go, as anyone on the island could just pick me off while I was swimming, I didn't expect anyone to actually respond with another flare. It was pretty cool though... I've never seen a flare shot by another survivor before. Shame it wasn't night time.

Today was an eventful day, not all good unfortunately. I spawned on an empty 1pp server, trying to get my autorun key to work. As I logged out to windows to fix some stuff a zombie ate my brain. I tried getting back to my corpse but it was gone. So I went to another server. I spawned north of Novo and managed to get some good stuff right away. As i left Novo I found a recently deceased person in the street but saw no killers. I went to the industrial complex and climbed one of the towers. As i got to the top I got hit by a sniper shot. I survuved and bandaged myself adn quickly made my way down. As I was leaving I was shot at again but he missed. I calculated that the shot came from the mountains so I went on teh other side of the buildings but I guess I was wrong as i was hit again and died.

 I respawned in Svet,looted up and met one friendly guy there. I went to Rify and as i was checking the place out I got stuck beneath some rocks. I logged out.

 Logged in with my Wobo guy, in Pavlovo military base. It was quite empty and looted so I went to Zelenogorsk which was also looted. I went to Green Mt and it was empty so I logged out.

 Logged in on the 9th cavalry server outside Elektro and saw two guys running towards Cherno. I didnt want to run into them so I took it slow. Got to healthy status but couldnt find any ammo for my sks and no clip for my 1911 , just bullets.. As i got to cherno I heard a large gunfight, soemone with an sks and another with an AKM . I think the AIKM won but didn't see anyone and couldnt find any bodies or spoils. Then a sniper shot at me. So I ran. He shot at me again so I ran further. I went through town on the dockside but it was looted already. As i got to the factory on the west side of cherno A guy comes running weilding an axe so i go to the roof. I try to talk to him but he seems insistent on killing me. I climb down but then a second guy comes running, armed with a hockeystick so i'm stuck on the ladder. I try to talk some sense in them but they just laugh and swing their weapons. Eventually i get an opportunity to climb to the roof and I shoot one of them with my 1911, he starts bleeding. I run around up there for a good three-four minutes while they are trying to hit me, waiting for the axe guy to drop but he doesnt. I shoot a flare at them but it does nothing. I grow tired of it all and jump to the small roof and bring out my fireaxe. They follow and I hack em down. They whine about lag as they die. 

 I am now almost dead so I have to try to heal myself. Splints are still broken and I have no morphine but luckily only my arm is broken. I manage to eat and drink but it will likely be a while before I can see colours again. God damn bandits!

Been playing for almost two weeks, been KOS a few times of course, sadly have only met 2-3 friendlys and 5x that in Aholes... I was comically tied up a few days ago and played trivia for my life. I had just spawned with not much equipment on me at the time so I just played along as them killing me wouldnt have much of an impact. I got 4 of the 5 questions right, the one I got wrong they shot me in the leg, but when I finished the rest successfully they attempted to untie me, failed and couldnt bandage me while tied up, so I bled out. It was pretty funny how they reacted during the situation, very panicky as they seemed like they didnt want to actually kill me. My next spawn I had going for a few days, some decent equiment and I was very happy and ready for a confrontation and the next login I had lost my character... I didnt move, logged out and logged back in to that server and several others but it was gone. I gritted my teeth and rebuilt another only to be KOS two times in a row. I was very disheartened for a few hours and was ready to rant as my first post on the forums.

 

Today was redemption. After the past two days looting and building from scratch I went up to the airbase NW of Electro and found the holy grail... a smoking Heli in the middle of the airbase and got me an M4! I looted the rest of the base very cautiously as I had been KOS up there once before as well and was very paranoid. I was cruising around all the military tents piling up on random ammo and noticed another smoke pillar in the near distance, ran over there and found another downed Heli, couldnt believe it, two so close together!! There I found an AUG and an even larger clip for the M4. I kept the M4 but played with the AUG for a little bit. Needless to say I am very happy at this point and ready to shoot some bandits.

All compasses, including several pristine ones I've used seem to be out by 90 degrees in 0.53. Count it as a 'feature'....

I found compasses unreliable in .52 so I started weening myself off using them. In .53 the problem seems much more persistent so I'm glad I had stopped using them. Nice to keep that spot free for something else.

True. Mind you, if I wind up in parts of the map that I don't know that well (ie the whole eastern half of it), or in the woods in the dark, even a dodgy compass might be a life saver.

I KIND of see what you're saying but on the other hand more often than not it's the dodgy compass that got me in that unfamiliar part of the map in the first place. If you don't have any way to confirm whether the compass is reading right or not... it could just get you deeper and deeper into trouble. 

 

Not being argumentative here at all- but I can think of a 2 hour walk to nowhere griefed by the compass... which is what eventually led to me throwing it away. I've never used one since.

 If you don't have any way to confirm whether the compass is reading right or not... it could just get you deeper and deeper into trouble. 

 

 

Ah, but you do. Find a road (or any kind of roughly straight line) whose direction you know from DayZDB and compare your compass indication with it. Just work out the degree variation (and if your compass is pristine it's probably 90 degree one way or the other) and profit.

 

Still, a bit of a pain if you know the map well enough not to need one.

So ive been staying away from NW airfield like the plague but tonight one of the guys i play with wanted to go there so we went. We approached the airfield from the south doing a loop from devils castle and when we entered the airfield it was a heli crash in the middle of the runway, two of us stayed in bushes and covered most of the area with mosins while the third guy ran out with an empty inventory to collect the goodies. After he came back we watched the area for a couple extra minutes for movements but seeing that he could run out and back without taking any fire we then went in and started looting from building to building. Got myself a AK74 "p" fully kitted and and a SPOSN backpack + tons of ammo. Seeing that i already had the mosin on my back i decided to take the AK in the hands and run to a safe place when i stopped in a bush for a drink... Ofc i then dropped the rifle which seemed to have glitched away > :( I wasn't going to keep it anyway but had plans to trade it for a tent/military tent. DayZ taketh and DayZ giveth...

I've played on the same server for a long time now. It's a clan server but I've met the clanners in-game and they were good guys and girls. The server was always available and resets were always regular and predictable. I never got kicked and never met any dodgy players. It's the server where I learned to hunt, cook and tan. More importantly, it's the server where I kept my stash, became confident in the concept of leaving gear and guns in the open for days on end, albeit hidden in trees and grass, and where I knew I could retire to eat and drink, heal my wounds and sort my loot out.

It was home...and last night it was gone.

I'd figured something was wrong when my stash first disappeared last week. I guessed that the admins had changed it from a persistence on to a persistence off server. I was disappointed that they did this without any sort of warning - I thought they were better than that. I stuck with it for a few days, still not sure of the persistence status because it seemed to be changing on a daily basis. Then, last night, I connected as usual and just as I pressed the button I spotted that it said "1PP" - yup, they had now changed it to a 1PP public server. I have no objection to playing 1PP, I already have a few such characters, but again it was the lack of notice to the players that upset me, and of course I can no longer play my primary 3PP public character on that server.

Time to move home.

So, a fresh start and a fresh challenge. I've kept a stash that has acted as a base of operations and tied me to a fairly restricted area, which was fine whilst I learned some things. Time to roam the map now and see what fate has planned for me so I selected a random persistence off server (persistence on is just too buggy for me really) and off I went.

In the first building I found my favourite gun - the IZ double barrelled shotgun. I've been looking for one of these for 2 weeks now since my last one simply disappeared from my backpack one day. I already had 60 shells and a snap loader for it so I was very happy, as you can imagine. It took a while but I eventually found a hacksaw and was finally reunited with a beautiful sawn-off shotgun :-)

I'm currently packing that and an SKS which is pretty much my favourite load out. Now if I can only find a Magnum to go with my Magnum speedloader I'll be ready for the next wipe! ;-)

Finally, whilst roaming around in the North I stumbled across a fantastic site - a car graveyard with about 8 military trucks in it. I don't normally bother with military clothing but this was impossible to pass up.

I love that even when I think I know the map, I find new things that I had no idea about. I really must explore more of the world!

Personaly i rage threw the compass away the first time i realised it trolled me. Never used it again.

 

Yday I made a horrible mistake of using a shotgun. The damn random pellet thing is just so random im never picking up a shottie again. First I saw a zombie train chasing a guy in Electro so I checked it out. Guy was so happy to see me he opened fire  some 100m away without really having any chance of hitting me at all. He then literally ran into my barrel just so he received no dammage what so ever.I hit the dude 4 times for no effect. He didnt even bleed.. i was about to f11 and shoot myself in the head right there with my last shell but he managed to kill me in the end.At least it took him over 90 bullets, as he killed me in his 4th reload.

 

I Respawn at Bere, get a bow & leather vest. Passing kami when some squeeker starts calling me "hey dude". I turn around and see a freshspawn with mp133.. yeah ok..dont mind if i run off...he starts screaming "ive found a bandit" lol. Seriously? a bandit? I guess the bow gave me away..

They start chasing me and he breaks my legs in one snapshot from bloody 100m -.-

I pull out my sawed off (no legs no bow..) and wait for him to come closer to give me the double tap. I shoot him. No dmg. You're dead.

Got electro spawn and ran towards kamy. Doesnt take me long untill i track the little rat. He and his friends were in a fight with another party.

I ran straight in just as he pulls out my ex sawed off, oneshots some other guy and oneshots me from a distance I wouldnt even bother.

 

On that day halp swore himself he will never use a shotgun in this game again.

 

God was mercifull and gave me vybor spawn after months. Went to veresnik where i watched two squads fight each other. I gained the trust of the winner; i rushed in his face with pickaxe and begged him not to kill me when animation ends. I told him i just want to take the dead bodies shoes if I may. He didnt reply, but he didnt shoot me either.He hid in his bush and let me be. I laid next to the body and started gearing myself.This guy was decked. I was afraid to pick up his mosin and mp5, afterall i only asked for the boots.

Then another guy rushes this dude and they start shooting each other. The fight lasted forever. I swear they both had like two secondaries lol. The attacker failed to spot me, so Im thinking of grabing the juicy loot and run off, but something told me to go and help this defender as I heard his character scream from being shot. I try to wield my pickaxe but the character just wont do it, so i run right infront of the attackers gun trying to take a bullet. Seconds later, i manage to get the pickaxe in my hands and as he falls unconcious I start hitting him. I hear an autorifle firing and my screen goes black.

 

Got elektro spawn again. I run down the street and see a gillie dude. "oh look, a walking bush!"

The paranoid wookie kept screaming "were you the one shooting with the magnum? were you the one shooting with the magum???" - No dude i just spawned...

"you're the one who shot me with a magnum!!!" - No.. You're dead.

Dissapointed voice followed "Oh...it wasnt you."

Gotta admit, he got me laughing.
