This game is and always will be way too military focused by players

Recommended Posts

I don't really understand the hate for "military" clothing.

I am unsure how it is in other countries, but in the US, even in a firearm-unfriendly state (yes, we do have those), you can still buy Milsurp stuff on the cheap.

Yeah, but up here in the firearm-unfriendly states the general opinion is that only unibombers, serial killers and child diddlers wear camo gear if they aren't A. Active Duty. B. Hunting.

I have the same opinion when it comes to DayZ, and so far it has done a good job of keeping me safe.

I never said it would make the game bad. I am merely explaining how and where the anti military gear stance comes from.

Arma is great heck military gear is great in arma and everyone loves that but keep that in Arma. People simply wan't dayz to be different to truly be a zombie survival game and not Arma 2 with zombies as would surely happen with a wide selection of military clothing, equipment and weapons.

Variety is not the problem, abundance is. The current high-end stuff just spawns a lot, and there's not a huge variety of stuff, so you end up seeing the same things over and over.

I'm not saying let's just add a bunch of snipers, DMRs, and machine-guns, without putting any thought into other stuff, but having a large variety is different than having a large quantity of stuff.

I mean, if gear were rare as hell, but there was so much potential stuff, it'd truly become variable.

Say you're searching through a helicopter crashsite, and you're the lucky duck who just found themselves an M249 Para. Cool, right? Well, would it be more interesting if the only LMG available was an M249 Para, or would it be more interesting if you could also find PKMs, RPKs, M240s, M60s, MG-3s, and a ton of other cool stuff?

And of course with that we also get a bunch of hunting rifles, shotguns, handguns, and all sorts of other items. I love pretty much all guns. The only reason why I (and many, like Katana67) are talking about military weapons is because they're the ones that are lacking right now. We've got plenty of civilian weapons for the time being, and most of the categories that could use an upgrade are almost exclusively military (save for shotguns).

That is debatable. People don't seem to be complaining about the amount of military gear spawning in the game they seem to be complaining whenever any military stuff is added, we all remember how the community overreacted to the flashbang being added. Instantly proclaiming Dayz to be emulating COD.

The people who want dayz to not turn into arma would much rather see a .22lr revolver instead of a fancy smancy sniper rifle from some obscure corner of the world.

They rather see more and more civilian weapons and clothing added instead of any more military themed stuff being added. I am not saying they wouldn't want any military weapons however the same people who don't want arma redux are the same ones who begged for the makarov  and the akm. I am sure that same crowd would be open to Eastern Military weapons being added and those seem to be coming with the SVD.

It's the knee jerk reaction to anything being "military ..//..

Look at the civilian protestors in Ukraine earlier this year and the current civil war

You know why all these guys are decked out in so much military gear?. ..//..

And why are all these guys lined up in ranks with AKs, dude ?

I think so longs as the game gets no more advanced that the AK and M4 we should be okay. A few more hunting rifles would be nice and I could be tempted to go as far as SVD/RPK as legendary rare end game weapon.

No scars, mtars, g36's, fmags, gpm's, military grade NVG's & rangfinders.

Dayz will never be complete with out the minigun...there should be some chance of finding it in military areas and gunshops, bulles can be crafted from zombie teeth and saliva

1) Cmon man wouldn't you love it if your character was so weak and could not move fast enough from being malnurished that you get stuck up by this guy ?

2) A game where you are balling out of control if your revolver has all 6 rounds in it ?

3) A game where if you encounter another player you instantly get super possessive and defensive about your half a can of beans and your canteen of filthy ash water ?

1) Um.....I don't think so.

2) Nope. It just means that a guy with a CZ527 a magazine or two, a shot gunner or, a Blaze man with snap loaders is the new boss. You'd end up with crews of two or three shooters supporting five or six Axe and Machete men that roam the countryside hunting other players for their gear, food, weapons and ammo.

3) Nah! less of everything will just make banditry, KoS and even Cannibalism a necessity for everyone. In a 'The Road' or 'Book Of Eli' DayZ world they might as well make it possible for you to skin and quarter player corpses to get some 'long pork' steaks that can be chased down with plastic bottles filled with blood and alcohol.

Stalingrad

"Living conditions on the ground in Stalingrad were unimaginably terrible, at the beginning of the battle, a regular Red Army conscript had a life expectancy of just 24 hours, this increased marginally if you were a Soviet officer to around 3 days. The Soviets initially after being caught on the back foot, had to endure hardships that today we would find hard to comprehend, cannibalism was a common occurrence amongst the starving and besieged populace. Rats became a staple of most peoples protein intake, soldiers and citizens alike would go around picking dead horses clean of meat."

I think they could probably halve the amount of ammo in the current balance of spawns and there'd still be plenty about for people to go around gunfighting. Herein lies the problem.

Before my HC character got reset yesterday, I'd played that life for maybe 4-5 hours in total. I'd been playing at a slow pace, looting small towns very thoroughly and walking as a general rule. My backpack was full of ammo of various types: about 200 9mm rounds, 40-odd shotgun shells, 70-odd Mosin rounds, about 50 SKS rounds, about 140 .22 rounds and maybe 15 magnum rounds; I'd only found about 2 or 3 guns in that same time. What I was really looking for was survival gear - but in that time I had only found 1 length of rope, 1 box of 19 matches, no knife yet, no binoculars, no battery for my walkie-talkie (foolishly chucked my free starter one!).

I know loot balance is not really a priority yet, but I think they could make some crude adjustments to drastically reduce the amount of ammo while increasing the amount of 'everyday' stuff, especially in civi areas.

I guess it's a matter of time (beta will be there for that).

The game actually feels pretty "thin" to me right now. Mostly loot and shoot like in the mod. Maybe once more game mechanics are added (e.g. disease, world containers, gardening, companion pets, faction identification, barricading, etc.) the game experience will feel richer.

Until then, I really hope they don't reduce loot too much. There have been a few times Experimental wasn't spawning loot. It was never that much fun.

I think u could easly make the case for both camps in regards to amount of military loot. Whats it all come down to is....how far are we into the apocalypse in dayz?

Is it one month after military forces was wiped out by the zombie horde? In that case there should be functioning military loot scattered all over the map.

Or are we a year or two in to the apocalypse....if so military loot should be rarer.

By the looks of things in game we are certainly not a month in....houses look abanded for a long time, but everything isnt totally overgrown either...

I for one hope the devs will stay consistent with the time aspect when they add stuff to the game....if we are one year into the apocalypse, everthying need to look, feel and function as if it one year into a apocalypse. And the availability of everything need to be balanced in accordance.

With features such as persistance now enabled, and the ability to forage and hunt for food, I'm waiting for the devs to turn off the plug on high loot at any moment.

Can't wait.

It's not the amount of loot, it's the balance. They should turn off the tap (pull the plug?) on gun ammo and food spawns, and give those slots to crafting gear instead. And enable us to sharpen sticks with an axe ffs.

I'd love it if, at the end of all the loot balancing, we'd see 'maybe' one person in a group of people having an ak/m4 and using that ammo sparingly.. the rest are fitted with pistols, beat up hunting rifles and maybe an sks or two.

I want to see an m4 and think 'holy shit that lucky bastard!!" not "ah geez.. another one?!"

Spotting a player with a kitted out M4 should be a "holy S*it, I haven't seen one in weeks" moment. Not a "Oh, look..another one"

folk do tend to agree

Main thing to do is stop duping - then we can see what's happening and estimate what firearms are really around.

Seems to me?

Nonsense. I've worn my BDU jacket to school before. Maybe Massachusetts is different....

And that is what is wrong with the current itineration of Day Z: TOO MUCH GODDAMN AMMO

Now, I am split on the issue, because this is an alpha and we HAVE to test things, but there is still WAYY too much ammo to be found. Think about it: society has collapsednothing is being produced anymore. Where are these boxes of ammunition coming from, especially at the prodigious rate through which the playerbase burns through ammunition?

Devs, PLEASE, significantly lower the spawn rate of ammunition later on in the "life" of Day Z. Keep weapon spawns at the same rate, but lower ammo spawns. I want to play "The Road", where having 5 rounds in a revolver is AWESOME, not the current incineration where I have 60 rounds of .357 waiting in the wings. Add additional CQC weapons, like spears and slings, and boost/make the bow worthwhile, we all know PVP will not be affected.

I want my survival game to have SURVIVAL, not survival with a side of gunporn.

Yup.

Remove all airfields and military bases or make the loot spawn random everywhere.

Don't complain to much about it though.

Or the mods will move you to the graveyard.

Okay, I can see the complaints of exaggerations, but...  What's the problem with attaching a rail system to older guns to accept modern attachments?  Honestly I see no problem with things like this:

I do.

This is supposed to be a world without food or resources a desperate wasteland yet there would be an abundance of tacticool rail kits for weapons ?

That makes no sense.

The grand grand majority of weapons should be iron sighted and barely working. It needs to feel and look like a zombie apocalypse set in an impoverished area.

You also have to remember this isn't the US where gun nuts love making their .22lr rabbit rifles look like super operator rifle that operates hard while playing dress up with their cheaply bought mil surp clothing. As an American I find the gun culture here really strange and I do own guns quite a few of them but I find the people who buy body armor and wear it for a day at the range to be weird people. Those same people are the ones who bubba guns just because they can.

I highly doubt something like that happens in a nation like Georgia for instance. American Gun culture is a very unique thing.

Some more NATO guns are welcome as long as they are considerably more rare then civilian rifles or AK's ofc.

Maybe the problem with most of the gun debates is that not so many folks are mentioning rarity.

Somebody says:"I want G36". Then Eastern setting lover goes:"Hell naw, we need more eastern stuff."

And while I agree, that more eastern stuff is needed, some western gear is needed as well, should be just considerably more rare.

Same with ammo, hence the AK101 was a bad move, connecting eastern rifle with nato ones.

Hard to judge rarity when loot is FAR from being completed and tweake & ballanced.

Let's pray to baby Jesus that duping will be fixed, item respawn tuned to be not too much, not too little and that Standalone will become a lot more about survival than about shooting with tacticool gunz like there is no tomorrow.
