And yet again...I log out in disappointment.

Recommended Posts

Firstly, I have enjoyed my experiences playing DayZ SA up to this point. I have got my $30 worth out of this game. I believe this game has the potential to be AMAZING as it progresses through development. Here are some interesting scenarios I have experiences in my 30 hours of play during 0.45 - 0.47:

1.) After searching a barn and finding a chopping ax, I run into town and find a zombie chasing me. I decide to engage. I swing my ax roughly 10-20 times with my cursor dead center with the zombie's chest and neck region. I continue to miss while the zombie somehow connects every time. After my 30th or so swing, I hit the zombie and he finally dies. I check my inventory to bandage myself only to find all 10 pieces of my inventory, including bandages, are ruined. I log out in disappointment.

2.) After finding an SKS and a stripper clip with 10 rounds on the crashed boat Rifi, I decide to follow the railroad north and search the town. I find a factory with a ladder and decide I would try to snipe from the rooftop. After ascending to the rooftop, I see a sniper on the other side who doesn't see me. I wait patiently to catch my breath before shooting. Right before I completely catch my breath, the sniper turns and during the spur of the moment I decide to charge the sniper. I sprint to within 10 feet from him and unload my 10 rounds directly at his chest. The first 5 were while looking down the barrel, the last 5 were shot from the hip. After shooting all 10 of my rounds and apparently missing, he shoots his Mosin once and I am dead. Confused and discouraged, I log out in disappointment.

3.) After gearing up yet again, I have a mosin with a LRS and plenty of ammo. I decide to log out on top of a hospital and log back in on a populated server to snipe some people. I log in directly behind of someone else sniping on the rooftop. Although it's a cheap kill, I decide to shoot the guy that I spawned in behind of. My mosin bullet hits from point blank range directly in his back. I see the blood cloud as the bullet hits him. He seems fine, and he turns around in shock. I shoot again. This bullet hits his upper thigh and I see the blood spatter again. Still alive. I shoot again, this time hitting his upper chest. More blood spatter. He shoots back with his mosin, and misses. I shoot a fourth bullet, this time hitting his stomach, and finally killing him. 4 mosin rounds from point blank to finally kill him? Interesting, seeing as I have died from 1 round before at much further distances. I log out in disappointment.

4.) Trying a different approach, I join an empty server and spend 30 minutes running to a military zone to gear up. After completely gearing up, I run another 20 minutes to an airfield. I run into some barracks and hide on the second floor to get a vantage point through the windows. My plan was to log out and join a populated server to look for PVP. After 30 seconds, my screen turns black. "You are dead". No zombies around, no players on the server other than myself, no sounds of bones breaking, just a black screen. Fun way to spend 50 minutes only to die to an unknown cause. I log out in disappointment.

5.) I finally find the infamous M4. I also find a clip with 40 rounds in it. I am geared in military clothing with a pristine combat helmet.  I decide to search around Rifi for someone to shoot out. I see a new spawn sprinting at me. I drop to one knee, hold my breath, and burst fire rounds 3 at a time directly at his center of mass. 10 controlled bursts of 3 rounds at a time directly at his center of mass from roughly 20 yards. No damage is done. He runs up to me, and I try to sprint in another direction. He punches me once, and I fall unconscious. Ten seconds later. "You are dead." Fists > Combat Helmet + M4. I log out in disappointment.

6.) I spawn in the middle of a forest. I understand the basics of navigating in DayZ, and I use DayZ DB to help navigate. I use an educated guess as to where I am, and what the fastest route would be to a town or the coast. I run for 30 minutes before finally reaching my destination. 30 minutes. Half an hour. After working eight hours a day, 30 minutes before reaching my destination is too much to ask out of me after working an 8 hour shift. I log out in disappointment.

Yeah the desync is worse lately making shots miss and the last patch broke the damage system. So if a guy is wearing a lot of clothing, they dont take much damage.

How in Gods name they didnt know about or care enough about the broken damage system is competely ridiculous. After 8 months of development, anyone who is not disappointed is in denial.

Thankfully no, they didn't happen one after the other. I have had some fun experiences in between these scenarios.

1. Zombie hitboxes are borked.

2.desync

3. It's taken me 3 rounds to kill from 3m away.

4.Logging in/walking upstairs is known to kill in this build

5.desync

6. You are going to be very sad when stamina/a realistic running speed are implemented.

How do you know he will be sad about stamina ? If it works properly it will be fine. I think he was disappointed about all the broken crap.

I believe this game has the potential to be AMAZING as it progresses through development. Here are some interesting scenarios I have experiences in my 30 hours of play during 0.45 - 0.47:

1.)Aim at their kneecaps, and then log out in disappointment if you still fail.

2.) This is not COD or Battlefield or Counter Strike.. you deserved to have logged out in disappointment.

3.) Shit happens sometimes.. go ahead and log out in disappointment.

4.) Alpha is disappointment for some, yes. See above for next step.

5.) Either you missed.. or he was hacking. Congrats, not everyone gets to meet a real hacker.. most just say they did incorrectly. Go ahead, and you guessed it.. log out.

6.) Well, this game, at this stage, is possibly not for you my friend its really good that you decided to log out in disappointment. The bad part is you posting here about it.  :|

Totally fixed all of that for you..  :D

It seems that all of these are down to poor balance and the game being generally unstable. Remember, it is in alpha.

In regards to the last one... people do call DayZ a walking simulator for a reason. Long travel times are a part of DayZ. Cars and other vehicles will eventually be added, but don't expect a fast travel feature

zeds dead is ban???

Banned again.

He has been around for a while, keeps making new accounts.

Sometimes I wonder who is paying for his time...

Anyway:

----------------------------------

11) Multiple Accounts:

Multiple accounts are not tolerated and may result in a ban for each instance.

----------------------------------

I can see how this is annoying to you, but changing it would ruin the game for those who like this about DayZ. Those who likes that things take time.

There are plenty other games that provide some quicker fun, but not many that are paced like DayZ. It became popular for what it is, for how it is different. Let's keep it that way.

Irish - As for charging the guy with a fully loaded SKS and dying, why did I deserve to log out in disappointment? Regardless of this not being COD/BF/Random shooter, as an owner of a real SKS (Yugo) I can tell you that you should be able to hit someone in a sprint with that rifle from 10 yards away. I like the fatigue and the aiming mechanics of ARMA and DayZ, but missing 10 shots from 30 feet away with an SKS is just unreal and laughable. Don't get me started on the M4 spreads either.

I'm surprised I didn't get more negative smearing from this post. I was expecting the worst.

In terms of the long distance running, I guess it's not all that bad. I'm really looking forward to vehicle implementation, even if they are hard to come by. It will give DayZ a whole new aspect that it desperately needs.

I agree with this. The isolation aspect and the fact that not every second is trigger time is something that keeps me coming back to this game. It's just frustrating that when you finally come down to having to shoot to survive, something beyond your control causes you to die.

You won't get no brownies points or sympathy from me for gearing up on low pop servers and then diving into full ones to snipe :D

To 6. first.

No you don't know your way around apparently. There are only a few spawns that are in the middle of the forest and there is always a town nearby within 3 minutes reach. It takes me damn 20min to run from the coast to the NWA, how do you manage to spend 30min to the next town? Or, if it was not the next town, then having to travel for a while to your destination is absolutly fine.

To 5., i call bullshit on that, or how long is that ago? If it was in this build, it's hard to imagine it happened unless you missed, badly.

Also, try to bind "Hold Breath" to right mouse button and another additional key, hold them both while aiming. It drasticaly decreases the ridiculous weaponsway.

to 3.

Why not shoot his head? If he has a HighCapacityVest, it tanks quite some mosinshots. If its pristine, maybe even 2.

to 2. and 1.

Note that shooting from 3rd person is inaccurate close up, usually hits lower than your white point would suggest. Esp with axeing zombies, this is a huge issue. Axe them in 1st person.  Of course you did not specify what camera you used, but you sound green to me, and greens use 3rd person always.

to 4.

This reeks of harsh extraggeration. You run to a military zone and then 20 min to an airfield, seriously? Well tell me where this military zone was. There is no damned militaryzone so far away from an airfield, they are always close by. Also, what is "an airfield", they have names, you know.

Also note I'm not a fanboi defending dayz at all costs, I have critiziced often enough, but if you extraggerate on such things as running distances, which is so easy to spot, then you are extraggerating on everything else.

Yeah, that's what I thought too after reading the whole text. And I read it whole. Those stories are the funniest. The game needs a feature to snap the players face when loosing, if he has a webcam. Those would be the funniest shots.

1.) [...] I swing my ax roughly 10-20 times with my cursor dead center with the zombie's chest and neck region. [...]

A know issue right now - something is wrong with the melee hitboxes. Fortunately you can work around it by

  • running away (watch for jump attacks)
  • figuring out how the screwed hitboxes work (e.g. Fireaxe requires you to aim at his right foot roughly said)
  • shooting the zombie (I recently switched to .22LR weapons)

2.) [...] After shooting all 10 of my rounds and apparently missing, he shoots his Mosin once and I am dead. [...]

3.) [...] 4 mosin rounds from point blank to finally kill him? [...]

5.) [...] 10 controlled bursts of 3 rounds at a time directly at his center of mass from roughly 20 yards. No damage is done. [...]

Most likely desync. Happens quite a lot - had this from the target side a few days ago. The guy clearly shot me with his Magnum but it seemed like the shot just passed my body without doing anything. Also there are "fake shots" sometimes that play the sound and animation but don't deal damage and don't consume ammo (had this with a chambered Amphibia S and a sawnoff shotgun).

4.) [...] "You are dead". No zombies around, no players on the server other than myself, no sounds of bones breaking, just a black screen. [...]

Seem like you got shot. Gun sounds are pretty quiet right now resulting in only hearing the bullet impact over longer distances. Also sometimes it seems like they just don't play the sounds for other players at all.

5.) [...] He punches me once, and I fall unconscious. Ten seconds later. "You are dead." Fists > Combat Helmet + M4. [...]

The ballistic helmet currently doesn't protect against melee attacks so its the same as wearing nothing in terms of melee knockout - two punches to the head will do the job. If he only needed one its probably because you were low on blood.

6.) [...] I run for 30 minutes before finally reaching my destination. [...]

Not a bug but bad luck or planning from your side. You probably just relied too much on your "educated guess". Try to get to a place with a good view on the surrounding area and also look for roads. Just running forward might cause you to miss places.
