does anyone really fish?

Recommended Posts

I tried fishing, and... nope.

that's a LOT of time hunting around for the stuff you need, and a lot of stuff to store, just to spend a lot of time sitting by the water and clicking, waiting for a zombie or bandit to take advantage of that PERFECT time to have a go at you.  hunting is just less stuff to carry, and at least while you're hunting you have a weapon in your hands so you're ready to defend yourself.

maybe you need lots of beer on hand to make fishing okay, just like real fishing...

Perhaps in future they will make hunting more difficult by improving the animals' behaviour to be less hilariously unrealistic. Then, while fishing might still be boring and time consuming, it'll at least be more reliable as a way of securing food.

Fishing with friends is funny. BBQ by the water... hehe.

Btw I'm quite agree with you. It is quite hard, but I guess after the Bratislava's studio finish working on the wild animal AI, it will be harder to find and shot animals. They won't just stray in the fields. In the end fishing may be easier, time consuming but at least you know quite easily where to find some fish.

My problem with fishing right now is how the fishing rod takes up so much space.  IRL I'd be able to strap it to my backpack along with an axe and rifle.

Yeah that's pretty much what I'm hoping as well. I read somewhere that the team have hired some devs who created a hunting sim to write the AI for the animals. Also once storing gear is a possibility, along with food spoilage making it impossible to stock up on tons of beef steaks or whatever then fishing might be a good thing.

Could be something to do once in a while, drop off all your exploring gear in your hidden stash somewhere, swap for fishing kit and go fish for a while. Beer would be good too.

Shoot? They are dumb, they are slow and they die from very little damage. You can just run up and punch them to death! And if you have a Fireaxe its not even childs play (Fireaxe makes any PvE trivial).

Animal AI is still a placeholder iirc. I agree that the fishing pole shouldn't replace the melee weapon slot.

I've found 1, just ONE!!! fish hook in quite a lot of hours played and towns looted. So yeah, no fishing for me. Unless then plan on allowing you to spear fish, use grenades to concuss and mass kill, shoot fish, etc there won't be much fishing happening until they up the spawn rate of fish hooks. I've found more Pristine LRS's than fish hooks.

Can you catch fish in the sea, or is it just lakes?

I'd like the introduction of rowing boats, for both fishing and naval combat.

I find fishing hooks in the log pub, garages, industrial buildings and construction sites. Fishing is a reliable way to get food. It takes a bit of practice but it's very easy. If you know where to go, there will never be bandits robbing, killers shooting you or zombies trying to get you. You can fish from ponds, and small streams too, which there are plenty of!

Catching fish is easy for me, and I like that. I'm a sports fisherman IRL, so even though it's pretty much a place holder right now, I like the simple fishing mechanic.

You can attach fishing hooks on a boonie now in experimental.

Yes, I fish a lot. Mostly during morning, or night/evening with a chemlight on.

To each his own. Peace!

Fresh water lakes, ponds and streams.

If I could randomly catch M4s from fishing, I would do it a lot more.  That's for sure.

This ain't WoW.  You won't randomly get a purple epic for sitting on your ass

I fish sometimes , its fun once in a while to waste some time , its easy food , like hunting or picking apples ,,, once a few more kinds of fish are introduced and they add saltwater fish im sure you'll see more people at least trying it out

Didn't found a Fishing Rod since yet.

I think those Ashwood Sticks are myths o.O

Only found one since their integrated into the Game

i am sure that, in case of you just spawning, once everything is made rarer (especially ammunition), fishing will become something you might have to do

no gun = no hunting

no normal food spawn finds

only alternative would be collecting berries and apples, which will take even longer to get you energized, or fishing

you would need a rope though, and an axe, which means that hunting with an axe would be possible, so forget everything i said

it is indeed useless

I'm surprised I haven't seen more people at least try to fish.  Testing out new options in this game is the whole point.  While I don't think fishing hooks are very common loot they're not hard to come by.  I've found most of mine in the school building on the second floor or in garages.  As far as an ashwood stick goes just cut down an ashwood tree and one drops every time.

just way way way too boring. Anyone that fished in Wow will probably never want to fish. The only reason to fish in that game was chance at awesome pet or +skill rod. Even in the future, killing people to get their flesh/loot will be more desirable than fishing for most, IMO.

I haven't even bothered trying yet. What's the point when I can get canned food in like 3 minutes if there are houses nearby.

Ashwood sticks can be harvested just by chopping down an ashwood tree with either a firefighter axe or splitting axe.

Leaves of said ashwwod trees look like this. There are small and big trees. Keep an eye out for them!!

With a rope, you can either craft an ashwood bow or an improvised fishing rod. You can look up on the forums for better detailed info.
