Custom faces idea for the Devs to consider

When the game progresses further to Beta or to final release I do like the idea of having a more direct influence over character customization. I assume later on there may be more tools to create facial features/looks or what not, but what I think would look AMAZING is the ability to import your own face to appear on the character using some sort of extra tool in the character customization menu to upload your own photos. I myself am a 3D animator & video special fx artist so I know how UV mapping textures works and how you need a front photo and a side photo to maximize getting the look right, but I think it would make the game so much more personal for my player to be running around with my own likeness & i run into someone else who has their own face. It would then justify concealing your identity if you are a bandit, because at present when you peel that gas mask off and "oh my god its very white male again, he looks just like me" you kind of hope the survivors will look more random

 

In fact below are what i knocked up of myself using a very simple and free program a few years ago. Yes the eyes are freaky as hell but they were the 3D representation and not my real eyes, the side view is a little more accurate. You get the idea.

This is where R and I massively disagree.

 

All my years of playing with custom faces, apart from the LoL clan and their clown masks, I have NEVER seen any offensive faces. If anything I think Dean managed to plant the seed into the wider community about dick pics. (ive been playing since OFP)

 

If I ever meet him in person I shall give him such a "chinese burn".

 

I think the main issue was performance tbh

There were some pretty annoying skins popping up in DayZ mod, I never saw dick faces either though honestly.  Though the ones I did see were usually more obnoxious, with bright neon colors and stuff.  Obviously a detriment to pvp, but annoying and not fitting the setting all the same.

 

I'd like to see instead just options for variations on bears/hair styles/colors, like most standard online games.

Yeah thats kind of my point. If people want to play as camper sniping murderers why stop them? Its not realistic but you don't take all the guns out to prevent it

 

If people only want to play with only wrenches while wearing underwear and a cowboy hat its not realistic & they look silly.... but why stop them?

Haha, yeah. I'd have a good laugh if I encountered a guy who looked like Jesus and a guy with a dick on his face trying to axe him a question. With the current frustration level DayZ has got going for it because of everything that's wrong with it, I highly doubt dick-faces will break immersion even further.

lol and yeah if someone slapped a face of osama bin laden or hitler on their character you think you are being funny but what you are actually doing is putting an even bigger bullseye on your head. because who wouldnt wanna shoot osama in the face and teabag his corpse without pants on? For starters, just more faces to chose from would be golden.

But yeah, it was good times in Arma 2, where you could slap your own face upon that of your avatar.

Plus it was ok to shoot dickhead with Hitler's face on.

like in BF4 player emblems, the majority are OK, some witty, some  childish, rarely giant pink dick or 'squatters' but yeah, would like a little more customisation but for the most part I either don't see people twice enough to care, or see their face enough to care, or think it warrants a major immersion factor.

 

voice, behavior or player name if you can get close enough to check pulse.  all a man needs. 

 

TBH, i see the major 'threat' being people exploiting skin tones etc to make chameleon men, although the grass and foliage changes enough, I'd say the 'bad' faces would lean more towards concealment than 'dazzle' ;)

He even said this in one of his interviews. Something about custom faces requiring too much network traffic or something. Maybe when the engine is more performant they will think about adding this because it is a pretty important feature.

Also, if a group of people want to walk around with penises on their faces it should be allowed. Almost every human alive has genitalia so we probably shouldn't be scared of seeing a few dicks and balls.
