Possible reward for early access testers?

Recommended Posts

Maybe for testers with 300+ logged hours, we could get a likeness of our real selves in game? Towards the end or after the dev process?

That would be too much work. There's 2+ million copies if DayZ on steam Even if 1% of the community logged 300 hours that would be 20,000 skins to be put in the game based on someones likenesses.

You are already being rewarded by helping the development of the game with a discount of the game, as it will only increase in price over time.

"Rewarded"

And the increase in price is because the game is technically not "Worth" what a full game will be.

That being said, 30 bucks is not a bad price for the ammount of gameplay available in DayZ.

However, some achivements would be nice.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not implying it's owed too us or anything, but maybe just to people constantly reporting bugs, or people who have been actively involved in the betterment of the game? Just suggesting it because it would be cool as heck to have our own likenesses in game. Hell I would even pay to have it done lol

A can of beans to all alpha testers would be a nice gesture.

<_<

You're a consumer who's testing (playing) a product you purchased, that doesnt make you a tester. It makes you a consumer with the ability to report bugs and indirectly help shape the product. Testers get paid for what they do and have direct input into the product they're testing. You do not. Matter of fact, you pay the devs to test their product.

Also:

The DayZ community aren't really testers, they just play.......The weapon [or any other element of the game] will have been tested in-house before it was patched into the public build.

Waiting on your retort, Owen.

Yes, it is a reward, as noone's forcing you to play at this stage in time. You don't have to play the game but still end up owning the full priced game once it comes out, thus it's a reward for supporting the development in this early stage.

>Paying less for a game in alpha, because you are getting less of a game

>You will pay more once the game is finished, because your getting more of a game.

I guess you lost me on what the reward is supposed to be. Other than the fact that you get to play it before everyone else i guess, but i have not seen any direct results from people talking to the Devs other than getting banned (Which is for good reason i guess), all i usualy get is "ITS IN ALPHA, SHUT IT".

How about we just wait for the implementation of decent character modelling? And then just recreate ourselves?

I guess somebody just wanted to be special

That reminds me of the way my dad rewarded me for doing all the farm chores.  "Your reward is living with a roof over your head"

If you play games for achievements you shouldn't play MP games....

No way I can recreate a sexy beast like myself.

314 hours played, so that would be nice, but I gues the reward will be that you did not have to pay the full price for the game.

Perhaps you guys are misunderstanding what i meant here. I'm NOT saying that because we are experiencing BUGS and GLITCHES (which are commonplace in an aplha stage game) that we should be rewarded, BUT that because we are helping fund the development, are loyal players, and members of the community from the early stages of the game. I hope you all realize how invaluable we all are to the dev team, having such a massive amount of players testing this game, the active, constructive players who offer feedback, suggestions, and bug reports likely improve the development of the game tenfold. We have seen that that can have its setbacks, because an obvious expansion in the playerbase and budget requires dev teams to expand, new companies brought in, and everybody be oriented to what the aim of the product is.

I paid my 30$ and frankly I'm convinced it was a good investment, into a great game, that should in the end be worth potentially twice that amount. So to restate my point, i think it would be nifty to have our own likenesses in the game, it would increase immersion, and in my opinion would enhance gameplay. I also think it would be a cool idea if the dev team felt they wanted to reward its community members for their help, it would also be a nifty idea to create the likelyhood of the player into the game.

That would be too much work. There's 2+ million copies if DayZ on steam Even if 1% of the community logged 300 hours that would be 20,000 skins to be put in the game based on someones likenesses.

Technically it could be done, I'm not exactly sure the scale of the task, but theoretically they could provide a sort of blueprint for what they need, and hire third party 3D modelling contractors through websites such as Odesk and handle the actual implementation themselves. These 3D modeling contractors are almost always skilled professionals, but because they are all over the world, they can cost a fraction of a local agent. Once again I couldn't say that indefinitely without actually seeing 'under the hood' of the game itself. But I do believe it could be done.

Well I enjoy the input, and i would have to agree that would be a pretty cool addition, but its always difficult in those pesky systems to recreate myself accurately. I find anyways.

Oh yeah... and

If you have played 300+ hours for 30$ your reward is you probably had more gameplay and fun than you ever had with most games you paid the full price for. If you did not have that fun in those 300+ hours you are a sucker for not leaving the game until a higher development stage is reached. Just saying.

I was more talking about the memory usage of 20,000+ character models/skins, not the cost of doing such a thing as DayZ has sold 2mil copies worth £20. That's £40mil. I'm sure there's a little money left over to hire some freelance texture/modelers.

Well considering the numbers, and once again I'm only speculating here, but lets say the budget for this game is 60 million dollars for develoment and advertising. And this IMO is a generous figure for a PC game building on an existing engine. If that were the case, the dev team has likely hit close to what they need to create the game, because they can only add so much, throwing money at something can only expand it a set amount. So if you extract the royalties they likely have to pay to the companies that originally funded them, if this game sells even 1 million more copies, and once again i think this is totally doable based on the growth of the game already, the dev team has roughly 30 million (- royalties) left to either add into advertising, subsidize into the team itself, or maybe reward the players.

Yeah you could be right, but that's what i mean when i say i couldn't really know the capability until i saw under the hood of the game itself.
