Experimental Branch: 0.47 Discussion

Recommended Posts

It's bad that you use the term "toon", something that should remain in the realm of WoW where it is used to refer to your "cartoon" character. In DayZ no character is "cartoon".

IS THAT WHAT IT IS?!

OMFG..

I have always hated that term (no offense to anyone that uses it, it just bugs me) and I thought I was just me being culturally insensitive.. lol, fucking WoW.   :P

Yeah, WoW.

I grind my teeth every time I hear it used. I don't normally watch Twitch streams but if anyone refers to their "toon" the stream is immediately closed.

It's good that you are part of the experimental/testing of the game.

For the record I have never played WoW.  This, for me at least, is a relic from SWG and Planetside.

Never played SWG, and only dipped in and out of PS (and PS2 for that matter), but it's clear to see that the connection is fantasy. So in many ways I have no problem with people calling their characters that in those sorts of games.

When they are used in realistic (or semi-realistic) titles like Arma, CoD, BF, etc and especially DayZ I do despair.

The latest .47 patch was ~850Mb for me. It was then followed by a ~5Mb patch. As far as I am aware I am up to date with the latest patch and I've had no further updates in the last day or so.

im getting random 5 to 20 second freezing (with audio boost) on the current exp, and they've added much more sway with the weapons, making it bit more challenging to snipe etc, also noticed rubberbanding has come back a little bit....or maybe it was just decync., hopefully.

Insane desync problems on experimental currently. Also having the "stop for 10 seconds" stuff happening.

Being moved a 100 meters back every 20 seconds is worse though.

I refuse to touch experimental until I hear the desync and freezing is fixed.. not worth it.

So, keep me posted ;)

I listed a way to help fix the clunkiness if scroll up :)

I do have extra buttons on mouse but i prefer to let them "not working" as might happens somtime i might misclick!

I don't want to rebind my controls because the character now is a piece of wood that can't circle strafe a zombie to hit him!

I'm comfortable with the existing controls and the game SHOULD WORK PROPERLY WITH EXISTING CONTROLS! NOT BY CHANGING THEM!

The default controls are always set for a best experience as they've already tested out.

I do play everygame with default controls, because as experience of betatester i've already been on the past, i remind clearly as i've been said to me by a programmer "The controls set to the game are already the suggested and tested ones! Try to set them as the same as other games or similar is a mistake because every game is different, never the same!"

Here we do throw away a new combat system with old controls? wtf?

It's horrible now i can't circle strafe a zombie to hit him or still be not able to FRONT HIT him with a crowbar, like he's too far away.

And i still have try to do a firefight...that will be a benny hill show for sure!

Nope, predates WoW by at least 10 years. EQ days.

I'm seeing an increase in FPS in GPU-intensive areas. Some stuttering here and there, though.

Seems like they also added chemlights and stuff

Can anyone else confirm if skinning cattle is broken in this build?  I needlessly killed 4 cows trying to get a skinning option. Had both the kitchen knife and the machete. Never could get an option to skin.

Controls are really defined by the person. I always change the controls to what I find good for me. I have always hated the Arma 2 / DayZ SA double-tap W to sprint. I honestly hate double tapping anything. And circle strafing is just how it is in 0.46 if you do simple rebinds.

Think of what we gained vs what we lost.

We gained variable speeds in all stances (slow / fast crawl, slow / fast crouch, slow / medium / fast standing) everything else we already had before.

We lost some fluidity between movements but that's easily fixed with rebinds.

on the topic of the freezes I just noticed that when I get one of those (they last from 10 secs to almost 30 secs) the sound quality has a significant change to it the second my toon is free to move again. maybe it is sound related... guess I should check the feedback tracker.

I think it is only the sound volume and the ambient noise. There is something like that with rain getting louder with time in Arma 3 if I remeber correctly. Saw that on a twitch stream with the streamer cursing that fact.

Even Ben Johnson pumped full of drugs could not instantly sprint!

If crouched, you need to stand up to sprint.  I agree IRL we can do that in one fluid motion, but how long does it take to press one button to change stances?  Probably quicker than an Olympic sprinter could manage.  There is a big difference between instant and one fluid motion.  If one realistic full fluid motion could be done i'd be all over it like a rash.

Well we have totally different bodies, you and I. There is a reason sprinters don't start standing up. There are a few sprint start positions, ignoring the fact that they are already prepared for one direction, there is a reson why the body center is low in all those positions, not at all like standing up: http://www.brianmac.co.uk/sprints/starts.htm And to rephrase that, having a low center of mass means that one is crouching. Really, who stands up and then starts running in a sprint situation? It's unnatural. Standing up and not having a low center might actually be worse than even proning (not with a backpack and weapon in hand, I give you that).

At no point have we had any version (that I know of) where stances were changed even remotely as fast as a person could do under duress. I don't know what that one button pressing sentence is supposed to mean. There is an animation there if you are standing. And if you are crouching and start sprinting, well, good for you, you'll have a headstart to those that were just standing up all the while.

I actually don't know how long it takes from proning to full sprint, I don't think I ever do that, but knowing dayz I guess it is not instant.

What I think is a problem here is the instant changing directions, no one seems to mind that. Today I shot a guy that was running at me, I had a mosin. Took 6 shots, almost got into melee. That is because the laws of physics are completely ignored when an object in motions decides to change direction. Currently it's like player run like ppl (or at least somewhat like ppl) but have no mass at all. Strange concept. It's just like Unreal Tournament 98, only worse because of the sprint function and the unrealistically high player speed. Funny thing is I don't actually know how other up to date FPS do that. I really, really hope that will change in the future. Looking at that any discussion about how many milliseconds it should take to go from crouched to standing seems unreal.

The fact is.....that there's no sense to put a stance for "STANDS" for walking when a weapon on your hands, and then you can Run by double tap or using another button!

It's shitty SENSLESS!!! Istinctively you do automatically have to run when in danger, and walking when needed! Not the contrary. Otherwise let permanent walk when on aim!

On the contrary if you "STANDS UP" and on guard and you push another button, then you start walk, because in that moment you need it, maibe for concealment or move slowly somewhere or to someone, and you do have the time to do it!

Any game is made this way. Any game, of any kind. From decades!

I wish to see you during a fight against a player  and you are spotted, To push another button to Run!

It's actually how I had it set up before this patch. I hated running around as a standard speed. I like slow-paced fire fights.

The way I see it, is that it creates a skill gap. Those that are talented and proficient at the controls will end up doing better than a spaz that loses his shit and fumbles with the controls. Just like in a real world environment, coordinated people will perform better at certain physical tasks than a clumsy oaf.

What does skill have to do with any of this? I thought the argument was about the movement and its controls making or not making an acceptable amount of sense when compared to real life (and its situations).

I like the way you put it.

Dayz's biggest co op pusher is the skill gap. I for example can quickly gear up in civilian areas, have a easy time locating myself, and am good at prepping. But I lack the skills to pursuade someone or to off him, so I need other players for stuff like that. This gives players in a group a sense of purpose and a "Athlete" would be a great member to have

What's up with the servers?  Some of them show .45 in the corner when I join them and others say .46?  Also has anyone experienced a lot of hitching/10-15 second freezes?
