I'm back! Did you miss me?/New Engine news!

Recommended Posts

Alright Chaps,

I'm back after a holiday due to excessive flaming

While I've been gone we've had one amazing announcement.

DayZ:SA will be moving to a new engine. I actually didn't think this was going to happen or would've been viable to do.

Since Day 1 of the Alpha myself and a lot of other forum members have been complaining that the flaws of DayZ:SA lay within the legacy engine it uses.

The clunkyness, a lot of the glitches and some of the graphical limitations etc..

The news of a new exciting engine is more than welcomed and gives me a lot to look forward to!

I'm excited to hear what will be up-coming in more detail and look forward to actively help development by bug reporting, stress testing, actively making suggestions and what i can to help :)

This is what the game needs to try and keep up with other releases/upcoming titles. The other titles don't have the community we do so lets continue to make this a success!

You do know the new engine will be the same engine it uses now just updated/added to. They will just rename it, not totally start over from scratch on a brand new engine.

Hate to break your enthusiasm, but as the person above stated, it's the same engine with (quite) a few additions.

So to sum it up for you:

Nothing has changed, they are doing the same thing that they have said they will do. Just decided the RV engine needed a new name.

Is that the case because they give the impression that they're moving to a brand new engine.

Q: With the new engine is it based on your current tech or is it a complete rip out of everything and rewriting it?

Rocket: It is a complete rip out of everything, but we’re definitely leveraging existing tech. So if you look at Bohemia as a studio they actually acquired a great number of other studios, so really were kind of looking around and taking up tech that is available there and mixing it into the engine, rewriting new stuff from scratch that we want to do as well.

Either way it's progression but that's sort of deceiving if you ask me.

nah, Rocket knows that the fundies freakout when you talk about evolution, so rather than cause them discomfort  saying that RV was "evolving" he opted for "moving to" instead to keep them happy & deluded.

Is anyone investing further in the project at that stage? Apart from the players ofc.

Still misleading though.. Especially with that Q&A. I think someone needs to re-think their answers before making false promises.

An answer like "Q: With the new engine is it based on your current tech or is it a complete rip out of everything and rewriting it?

Rocket: It is a complete rip out of everything,

That'd be like me saying here i bought you an Aston Martin but actually bought you a Hyundai.

Only time will tell! I'm sure this game will progress with RV but i'm sure others will progress faster.

Actually what they are doing is more akin to "ripping out" the guts of a Hyundai and filling it with the guts of an Aston Martin. They've been saying for a long time that they are slowly ripping out and rewriting bits of the engine to suit their needs...

You should have made the announcement not Rocket!

First off, nobody knows who you are.

Second of all, this isn't a new engine, merely a re-naming of the RV engine.

Third of all, search first before making topics, it's not hard to find out everything that's been happening just by looking at the front page of General.

And the whole "new engine" isnt actually news.

We have known they wanted to create a custom engine for this game ever since it was announced last year.

Thats why they have been using bits a pieces from Arma II and III, to create what they wanted, along with new code.

Not news at all, but they are simply putting a name on it now, Enfusion.

So we wont see an "engine switch", we wont see a complete export and import of assests to a completely different engine.

What we get is what we have now, plus 1-2 years of further development.

Rocket should really have thought this through before he used the hype words "new engine", or perhaps he wanted this commotion all along? who knows...
