My confession.

Recommended Posts

When I started playing DayZ Mod I was just another girl in the lands of Chernarus trying to survive the zombies. After some solo time in game I started to gather to other groups, to increase my chances of survival.

I found some bad people, of course I did...but I also met a lot of incredible guys and girls out there, and we spent a lot of time just minding our own bussiness, we weren't bambis anymore, we didn't need the help of other, not even from the other guys in our group...we could handle ourselves now.

J5ubtpz.jpg

We logged in every day just to gather some more ammo, food and kill zombies for the fun of it, that's the way you survive a zombie apocalypse, killing zombies and avoiding to get killed. So we were just killing every single zombie in the server.

After some time, some of us stopped playing for a while and when we came back we kept playing, for the most part, on our own...back to solo queue. But it was ok, I don't mind going around on my own.

Later on, I (along with some of my friends) stopped being a survivor...I became a Hero, the girl that fix your leg in the middle of the woods or the sniper that saves you from that squad of bandits on the beach. Anyway, I'm no pro player, but I was playing to help others now, just as some hero helped me when I was a survivor.

When I came to the game (I'll call it just "DayZ") I was this bambi again for some time, and quickly became a survivor again...

I met mostly bad people that just wanted to try out and test all the items/features/systems in the game and they just kill you to make sure you won't interfere in their plans...typical

Apu4oha.jpg

But I also met a small, really small group of survivors just like me, I was happy to find somebody I could trust and we played for a long time.

y5gtTXt.jpg

I...well, all of us tried to be heroes here as well, help other people with their loot and providing cover from bandits, we really tried :c

Eventually I was on my own again and I just kept finding more and more bandits and kosers...everybody was just shooting at me, showing me their axes which so much energy that they "accidentally" killed me :(

A couple of days ago, my headset broke. So I wasn't able to talk to anybody in-game :O and had to play all by myself again, just looting what I could and moving trough the forest, away from other survivors due to the lack of comunication (which would end up in someone's death)

qtkW9t6.jpg

I tried to type in chat and just ended up dead, I tried to just flee as soon as I met with someone and ended up dead...

So I started to just kill people...I was no longer a bambi, survivor or hero...I was now a bandit. I wasn't KoSing...I wasn't killing EVERYONE I met, just the ones that seemed hostiles...the rest, the ones that left the place as I entered, the ones that kept moving, the ones that let me go away lived, but the ones that raised their weapons, the ones that threatened me died and got robbed from all da lootz

And now...now I just try to stay out of sight...letting people go away from a zone before I go in, but if someone else come while I'm there...they'll die. I've killed a lot of people that didn't deserved it, they just came into the same building that I was in to do the same I was doing...and they got killed for that :( So I have now became a KoSer...GG.

PS: Sorry for writing so much and the low quality pictures...and for all the people I've killed in Chernarus

Maybe give Experimental branch a go. From my experience you're far less likely to get shot on sight. Plus you get to try out the sweet new features. Win-win.

I used to find a lot of friendly players on the first version of the branch...but now is the same...they all kill people

Experimental is full of the real DayZ enthusiasts -- those who don't want to just run around like a dumbfuck shooting everything they see. Those that want that authentic, visceral survival experience.

When I play on experimental, I'm a different guy. I just... do stuff. Lately I've been fishing. I have fun just running around.

When I play on stable, I'll admit, I succumb to the level of every other douchebag. I don't torture or maim people, but for the most part, I just play to kill other people.

It's not the act of killing that makes people douchebags, it's the attitude that goes along with it. How many times have you been shot and killed by someone only to have them gloat and talk shit non-stop for thirty seconds until you finally respawn? Every. Single. Time.

So yeah DayZ Girl, I get where you're coming from. And like the guy I quoted suggested, try out experimental. I think you'll like it (aside from the current rubber-banding issues).

I can sympathize. I bought this game without a mic to use and found out very fast that typing is an invitation to run up and kill you. The worst are those who keep trying to say friendly as they perfect their aim on your face. Playing with a mic hasn't made things any less dangerous, but I do at least find that I don't have to risk missing a shot if they rush me. I am lucky not to have gotten so far as to shoot random people, but only because I am paranoid enough to rarely move into an area where I don't have cover. I back away and just warn them. If they chase into where I am thinking it means I am without ammo or something, they take a sawed off shotgun to the face. I don't think you are a bandit persay though. You don't go looking for trouble or looting those who aren't a threat. You attack those who threaten you and react logically to the risk of an attack from someone who is rushing into where you are. Those are judgement calls rather than blatant KoS situations to me.

Don't worry... it will settle down. There's just not a lot else to do at the moment.

I am proud KoS'er but even I envisage a time where I will get enjoyment from interacting with other players other than shooting them in their face.... maybe.  :P

eh, i always hear about people eventually kosing, I ended up on a similar, yet different, route, I shoot on sight. Not to be confused with kill on sight. Break their legs and run out of sight.

I was the kinda girl who never wanted to kill another player. I used to think... "It's the end of the world, if we fight each other, we're all going to die" and I tried to play with that in mind. I was expecting other players to do the same, kinda what happens in Resident Evil or Dead Frontier or Left 4 Dead, where people just cooperate with others to survive, without the fear to being killed by a person, but by a zombie. That's what we should be afraid of...ZOMBIES

The thread title had me thinking it was going to be something kinky.

But seriously, I am finding out that my patience is fading quicker than I expected. I hopped on a hardcore server last night just to screw around as a fresh spawn and take a break from my geared player. Obviously, I didn't have shit on me so I just ran into the middle of the city, (Svetlojarsk I believe) and ended up coming across 5 other guys. Nobody shot anyone...we all just stood around talking and then decided to group up. I was actually having a pretty good time and then sure as shit, someone pops around the corner with an M4+coupled mag and kills all 5 of my friends and attempts to kill me. I managed to flee the scene without taking one hit despite him unloading the remainder of his mag at me. He chases me through the city for a minute until I ran into an apartment buidling and found a Magnum. Already had the rounds so I loaded that sumbitch' up and searched for the koser. He was still looking for me and I managed to sneak up on him and unloaded all 6 six shots into that spineless moron. I was so annoyed at that point I grabbed his M4 and three mags he had on him and then just kind of...went crazy. Killed everything in sight. I don't ever do that, but at that time, I was done trying to make friends. I think I killed like 6 people in the city. Some fresh spawns, a couple guys with SKS and I'm sure some of those were from my old "crew".

hatelove this game.

That annoys the hell out of me. I can accept my death -- I prepare myself for that inevitability every time I log on to the game. However, 90% of the time when I am killed by another player they get the jump on me (and I am not a careless player). Killing someone you accidentally snuck up on from behind doesn't exactly require any skill, so there's really nothing to brag about.

I would say there are very few exceptions to the rule of "everyone eventually KOSes". I've watched every single one of my friends have great, positive encounters with strangers in the game and proclaim that they will try and help others and avoid killing everyone they see. Then, with time, every single one of them was killed in a very devious manner eventually and it turned them sour. We still have our occasional positive encounters (myself more so than them for some odd reason), but they actively hunt for people now whereas before they were always open to communicating first.

I stopped reading after the third post because I had to interject with the following....lets not fool ourselves here and be honest. Experimental is NO different from stable. KOS is just as prevalent. I liked the OP's story, and sad to see you are becoming another one of those players. No matter what "type" you play on (ex/stable) it's all the same so don't delude yourself by thinking one is less KOS or more friendly than the other. In all honesty, you just have to play in the mindset that you feel most comfortable. Whether that be friendly, KOS, or bandit, it doesn't matter. Just don't come here and give us that age 'ol, "I was friendly, but now I'm a bandit" scenario, it's been played out long ago. If you are playing KOS you are simply scared. If you are playing bandit, you are inventive. If you are playing hero, you are respectful. I believe the worst form of play is labeling yourself. Just survive, by whatever means the situation calls for.

500 hours + never kos, never kill without reason, i think it takes skill to identify target, and react accordingly sometimes.

play with skill, or kos without thinking, the choice is yours ppl

i'll try to not shoot first unless have good reason to do so, and just get to cover/safety before i try to retaliate. I'm constantly moving around, making it a little bit harder to land shots on me.

If I get behind someone I will type "hey" since my headset has broken, always with my gun ready, but not shouldered. They go for a gun and get a bullet to the dome, I've emptied 3 into the chest of a guy I snuck up on when I tried to offer help and he went for his crossbow. If you can get behind them you are fairly safe, otherwise you have to just go the opposite direction. I'm sure some people assumed I was hostile, but that is being a complete IDIOT. What kind of Raider comes up behind you and speaks? A real raider will headshot you, a bandit will cuff you.

I've done it to a few people that have just logged in, one had logged in with a broken leg, I patched her up in svetlojarsk, sent her on her way with the knowledge I had helped someone, another with pure Kos gear logged in (gas mask, Sks with scope, full camo,) he just ran away, I then began rubber banding so bad even crawling wouldn't get me out so I quit for the day before he presumably set up an ambush. I wouldn't really call you a raider, you let people go that are minding their own business, as opposed to killing anyone you see just because they are there.

I will admit that if I don't get the drop on someone and they come in with weapons drawn, 3 in the chest, especially if they start shouting friendly and don't unready the weapon, This bambi isn't taking chances, the moment someone makes a move even remotely hostile they get shot. even people who team with me, if they get to close with fists or weapon up while they think I am not looking I will redecorate the wall. And if they have no paints I'm just shooting them in the leg on principle, assuming I have the time.

everyone has a different definition of "friendly"

"i only shoot if..."

"i usually try to talk to someone first..."

"i don't kill fresh spawns unless...:"

everyone kos's.

the people who "justify" it or pretend that kosing is part of their role play is absurd

get over it, unless you're on a whitelist RP server using VOIP you WILL BE KOS'ED/KOS PEOPLE
