That is a little weird especially if you are getting 50-60 out of towns...it should not drop that much....

FYI I have the same Processor

GTX 760

16G RAM

150Gb SSD

However, First thing I notice is RAM...need at least 8Gb, but I run 16Gb.

The others should be ok, but I would bet that your HHD is bottlenecking your system, which may or may not affect your game performance.

Also, have you checked the videos that increase performance in DayZ?  There are a few, and they help.

Needs more ram. But you could try not running it at max settings.

1FPS?

So you just get a still image?

DayZ is 32bit, RAM is not his problem despite 4gb being kind of light by modern standards.

Just a still of the cherno docks.

Postcard dayz.

Something sounds seriously wrong to go from 50... to 1.

I can run max settings on 4gb ram, albeit resolution at 100% not 200 .

Maybe once it starts slide showing/stuttering etc he may be hitting mid teens and dipping into under tens and even the ridiculous couple of second lockups.  Lowering settings to lowest possible and then working up from there whilst in a city would be the first thing to try. With only 4gb ram you need to have a look at background processes and trim your machine down as much as possible, if win7 you can get it down to about mid 700mb at desktop, and check  up to date drivers as well.

If 32bit hit me with a pm and i can show you how to set up the 3g switch to use more ram

Dayum. 1 Frame Per Second. That's pretty bad. In the mod my computer could get down to 10-14 FPS in cities like cherno on full servers but this...

Anyway, my computer runs great in the StandAlone now. I just turn my settings down and I get 20-30 FPS in cities, and 40-50 out in the wild.

Doesn't need to be really high quality settings either. The rendering and grass, it barely looks different when you change it down, but it helps your PC a ton. Just turn stuff down that you think you wouldn't notice or don't care about.

SSD gets you huuuuge performanceboost! You dont really need too much ram for this game right now since it is 32 bit, but I am wondering what kind of person build your computer to have decent specs, but only 4 gigs of ram. And is it 1333 mhz ram or maybe 1600 mhz? My suggestion is to not cheap out on ram and get another ram stick and maybe overclock your cpu just a little if you have good enough cooling for that.

1 FPS is suspicious. I get around 20-30 FPS, regardless where I am and I play on high at 100%, blurr and bloom off. My system has 8 GB RAM and a HD 7770 with 1 GB and compared to the GTX 660, she is crap. It should never drop so hard. What OS do you use? I saw a FPS drop, when I try to play under Windows 8. Windows 7 is fine. But yet, such a drastic drop is unrealistic.

however this happens to me too from time to time. almost out of nowhere, but not in cities especially, but rather everywhere, even in the middle of a forest. it's really weird.

Reduce object draw distance (google dayz optimization) and lower Object/Terrain details + texture filtering..

You could run out of RAM. Facebook, Steam and game open and that's likely it. 3,5GB RAM usage could be enough for those drops.

I have an ancient computer, Q6600 with GTX650 and 4gigs of RAM.. I play on medium details and I notice that whenever people come near me or spawn next to me my fps drops to nothing for abit and then goes up again. So it sort of became like a spider sense when people are in the area :D

Definitely odd, as I run a 8320 (unclocked) with a 7770 card (also unclocked) and I don't suffer anywhere near the issue you have. Ok, it's less FPS in towns (as you would expect) but I'm talking high 30's not low 1's. Granted I have 16Mb of memory albeit shit quality, but still.

Reducing resolution/quality would of course be a sensible place to start, and without knowing what else is running on your rig it's hard to tell if there is a memory leech going on somewhere, so the blindingly obvious suggestion of killing everything that doesn't need to be running is also advice I'd give.

However from someone with pretty similar technical specs I would looking at problems other than the actual game - even though we all know it's a dog.

Edit: Oh, and make sure you have enough disk space free for the swap files. Empty your recycle bin and clear the usual temp directories. While 500Gb is not a small HD in general it's amazing how quickly that shit can get filled, especially if you haven't emptied your recycle bin in a while and the system is showing free space when in fact there isn't. We've all seen what Windows does when it freaks out at having next to no space available for it's swap file. I'll admit, it's not necessarily going to effect you only in the cities, but hey, no harm in suggesting it.

I got a fix guys and it took me along time to figure out and im not even sure if people still read this but here we go.

1) Go to CMD and make sure u run as an admin.

2) paste the following into the CMD "/set IncreaseUserVa 3072"

3) hit run.

4)After it says it has been successful do a full reboot.

5)If this doesnt fully stop the problem i would advise doing some of the fps boosts seen in youtube videos like this > www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-qwJyvUnHY

6)Also i put this into my launch options in steam "-noSplash -cpuCount=* -high" you have to change the * to the number of cores you have. e.g for 4 cores -cpuCount=4

7) And last but not least make sure to run steam as admin and also run the DayZ.exe in the steam folders as administrator too or else it will not work.
8)Hope this helped and good luck

Ill be here if u need to troubleshoot or have any problems.

My specs are Amd phemom II 955
                   Radeon HD 7700
                   4 gigs of ram
                   windows 8.1 pro 32 bit.

Please don't bump a troubleshooting topic as old as this one, todays problems aren't necessarily the same as the ones we had a years ago.

It will only lead to confusion and misleading advice.

Locked.

EDIT:

I know this is not in Troubleshooting, but it should have been.

Also as of update 0.54 you shouldn't be using any startup parameters, they are outdated and can cause issues.
