JosephHabib 8 Posted April 24, 2014 I thought that having a nighttime in the game is a bad idea. Many of my friends are complaining about it too and stopped playing DayZ because of it. The problem with having night time is that most people threw away their flashlights and so people will start resulting to killing new players for the flashlights since its easier to do so then look for one. The kill rate will most likely go up for a fact. Flashlights are not even that helpful (or the flashlight attachments for helmets or whatever). They are basically just bringing you to your death if you use one. They light up your area and people are going to most likely kill whoever has their flashlight on. Which makes having flashlights useless. I recently died so I am using a flashlight but it just makes everything harder at night because new people wont be able to find houses/factories like they could do easily during the day. On top of new people dying from being shot for their flashlights they wont even be able to have good chance of surviving since they barely even know the map well. They don't know what to look for when they are running around with their flashlights out. Another problem is that you run slower when you have your flashlight out -__- Either you have a flashlight out and see where you are going or you don't have it out and run faster. You cant even outrun zombies too with the flashlight out. I just keep mine away and follow the coast while everything is dark now. The new update ruins experiences basically. Please take away nighttime and continue working on more important things like the hunting update. Many people are waiting for that update and are very excited for it. I don't really care much about hunting but Id rather hunt then walk/run in darkness barely being able to tell where I am.
Max Planck 7174 Posted April 24, 2014 Night time has been part of DayZ from the beginning, it is not likely to go away.

btw001 19 Posted April 24, 2014 I don't like night in the standalone. In the mod, it's GREAT. Hell, I prefer night over day in the mod. In standalone? It's pitch fucking black. You can't see shit, it's like being blind. If they make night like it is in the mod, then I'll love night again, but until then, let's just say I won't be playing on any night servers.
BeefBacon 1185 Posted April 24, 2014 Day/night cycles will probably be a lot faster in the future. Currently they're real time. Eventually I expect to see day/night cycles that are just a couple of hours long. Also I imagine that night will eventually be made brighter.
wisper 61 Posted April 24, 2014 Yes for brighter night (stars/flickering lights) and a couple of hours duration, (some of us have only so much time to play). I believe flashlights were initialy intented mostly for dark basements/caves that are yet to appear...

Learn to deal. full 24hr cycles or nothing imho. Also yes the lighting in the SA makes is considerably harder to see at all in the night. again- ive been out camping and such at night IRL. its no where near as pitch-black as the game would have you believe. even the mod was to dark on a clear nigth imho, but the SA is unplayable without exploiting gamma.
qww 287 Posted April 24, 2014 remove night ?? no. although, im not feeling the accelerated time, also its annoying to think other players are changing settings for better vision too, hope this can be fixed in some way.
Statik (DayZ) 2695 Posted April 24, 2014 Judging from your OP, you just want the game to be easy. I'm 'fraid that probably won't happen.
BeefBacon 1185 Posted April 24, 2014 (edited) Accelerated Day/night just looks goofy imho. Learn to deal. full 24hr cycles or nothing imho. Most people - myself included - are unwilling to play at night. Faster day/night cycles may look 'goofy' but they'll encourage players to actually play at night. I could manage night if it only lasted 30 minutes - I'm not willing to play in near pitch-blackness or even just low light for a full 2 hours. TIC 1050 Posted April 25, 2014 I love night time. I don't see how it could be so discouraging. It's just like how it is in real life. The only problem I have with it; the zombies seem to see in the dark when you're being chased by them. You should be able to lose them depending on the lighting and how loud the sounds are from your footsteps.
Capo 323 Posted April 25, 2014 They need to make it so night is playable, after a while it's pitch black. however, frankly there's a large portion of players that just need to man the fuck up. So many people start bitching about it being too dark the moment the sun goes down, which is shite.
HIHBGaming 14 Posted April 25, 2014 Well honestly, bitching about night being a bad idea is a bit of a moot point. Just go find a 24/7 Day server, there's plenty of them out there. Yeah? I like night time play in DayZ. Does it get a bit hard to see? Sure does but that's the point of night time, that's what torches and gas lanterns are for. I think thats a reasonable solution. I'd rather just play 24/7 day then have accelerated tho.

RedgeZat 2 Posted April 25, 2014 If the game has crafting, it would make sense to gather resources during day, shelter and craft at night. Although in reality they should have a realistic day night cycle. 2 hours day, 30 minutes night, since most people sleep at night, and that is not modeled if it is 2 hours day, 2 hours hours night, and I don't know, I haven't played the game. And having players online while having to sleep would be comically unworkable, although it could be presumed that everyone would sleep for 1:30 min of the 2 hour night, and emulated with faster night, slower day.

When I played the mod it was pretty dark for me, comparable with SA as it is currently. Did that change at some point? One thing that did help quite a bit was red-tinted flashlights. I think like, maybe having burning debris or gas lanterns randomly spawned, lit glowsticks, flares or the crash sites we saw in the mod would help by generating some ambient lighting to make a flashlight less obvious. After all, red-tinted flashlights are used because they more resemble naturally found lighting.

I guess thats one of the problems with things like lighting in PC games. the sheer facotrs involved (Hardware, Monitor settings, and In-game settings) What's fine for one may seem to light for another or to dark for yet another. I howevere didnt change any settings between mods and the SA hardware or monitor wise and the lighting is definately darker- Unless SA's brigtness is juts by default lower then Arma II's default?
