Should we all start off with a pistol in Dayz Standalone?

Are you seriously asking this?  There is enough rage on the forums about having to find food right away, zombies and kos.  Last thing we need is people bitching about having to find pristine clothing.

i meant spawning in on the beach new wearing pristine clothing.

I know what you meant and that is what I'm talking about.  Yes, I know it doesn't make sense lol but we have enough heavy mouth breathers raging on these forums about the littlest things that if they didn't start off with pristine clothing, they'd be going nuts.

No, just no.

 

The reason it was scrapped on official servers in the first place was because players would camp spawn points to get easy kills and more ammo for their pistol.

No gun on start. It's not necessary. 

 

The actual vanilla mod doesn't spawn you with a gun at all, it used to, but they decided it was bad.

Because it's an incomplete game  <_<

 

We were provided with a basic development roadmap and, apart from the survival components (hunting, cooking, farming) being added, all signs point to the focus remaining on PvP. PvE will remain a distraction from the primary PvP component until modding support is added, in my opinion.

Not now no eventually there will be server permissions and certain servers will be able to implement that into there servers and they will be able to have ranks it's all in the future never forge we are still in alpha. One day my child one day....

Flashlight as a melee weapon? Yes. Firearm? No way. Game breaker IMO.

The only reason it worked in the mod was because the Makarov couldn't do enough damage to chip someones teeth. Even then it got removed.

If your going to turn the flashlight into a weapon ( i can roll with this) then i want it to break and be useless as a flashlight ( although not much of a punishment my most found items are discarded clothing with flashlights in them lol)

 

As for guns at spawn hmmm let me think about this id say NO id put the idea after seeing what it did in the early days of the mod in the same category of bad ideas as drinking disinfectant in game to see if you can build up an immunity to it ....

Lmao. Know when a fresh spawn has his dukes up and starts swinging at you even though you're fully geared? If they add guns, they'll just pop you. Fisticuffs are enough.

I think the crappy flashlight and battery are worthless too.

 

If anything you should start with a basic set of clothes, (which we do), and MAYBE a wooden club of some type since there are trees everywhere and fabricating a beat-down stick shouldn't be too hard.

 

Other than that...NOTHING else.

I'm very new to DayZ and I was put off by not being able to melee with the flashlight. I was so put off that I decided to let myself be beaten to death by a zombie.

Played the Arma 2 dayz mod recently and found a server where you start with a gun. Should the SA do the same?

That is for damn sure. I guarantee that I could find something in the average household that could be used to defend myself within 5 minutes of searching. Tear off a table-leg, pull off a length of pipe, etc

 

Also, I wear more clothing in the heat of summer than these character's do in what appears to be Fall.

Maybe the final version in hardcore spawning with a weapon, chance at pistol with a round chambered or something

I feel like in stable you should start with very very few things, and it should be chosen items to start.
Like: 
Mechanic gets a pair of worn random condition pants and a screwdriver. 

Cop starts with cop uniform, and a m1911 mag, with a random amount of bullets in it.

Hunter should start with only a suit of hunting camo, not mil camo, like the hunter pants and a shirt with it too. 

I don't think any military starts should be available. If skills and learning come into play with this game, perhaps these starts can play a larger role.

I say no way also..  I think the game can be the best and most exciting when you first start a character.. And what adds to this satisfaction is the fact of having no weapon

 

It feels more like classic survival horror especially at night, with only a torch and rags, having to move around undetected and avoiding as much as you can.. 

 

Then when you finally find a gun it  feels very liberating
