Been some good points and discussion here, thought I would share mine.

I am a fpv guy in dayz. It brings another level to dayz that tpv cannot touch. The tension and fear of not knowing what is around the corner or behind the wall reinforces all of this. It also encourages me to slow down, take my time and assess every situation as I can't see everything! Now my new group are all tpv addicts and can't get enough of it. It isn't a biggie, I can adapt. We have 2 types of servers for this very reason!

Now a lot of people dislike fpv as it feels claustrophobic to them. The number one complaint on these forums I have found, seems to be whilst being indoors. Navigating is hard, getting stuck in doorways due to weapon collision and changing fov on the fly.

I have found a really good work around for this...it takes a little bit of time re-binding controls but it has made life a lot easier for me.

For starters, I never run indoors, I walk only. This helps colliding into door frames and just general manoeuvrability inside. I don't run inside at home, so I don't do it in game!

I have default fov in the options and it stays that way. No changing on the fly for extra zoom!

For key bindings, it is down to personal preference but the default makes it hard for first person to maintain all controls that matter the most to be accessible instantly. etc Zooming in and out (not holding your breath but the actual zoom) the +/-  buttons requires you to take a hand off either your keyboard or mouse.

I un-bind the scroll wheel up/down (action menu), middle mouse button (accept action) also the tab (inventory), I also un-bind others but there not important really.

bind zoom in toggle - mouse wheel up

bind zoom out toggle - mouse wheel down

bind inventory - middle mouse button

bind Action menu - Tab

bind zeroing up - ctrl+w

bind zeroing down - ctrl+s

bind Zoom in -dbl tap tab (for LRS scope when iron sight)

bind zoom out - dbl tap ctrl (for LRS scope when iron sight)

With these bindings, it has changed the way I play. It feels more natural to be able to back off the fov as quick as it is to zoom it in. I don't know a lot about others here, but playing in one fov all the time actually makes it hard for first person in dayz/arma. Tpv doesn't have this problem as you have more "situational awareness". Going from the amount of people I have met in-game on HC servers, the majority did not even know that +/- changed the fov!

^^ I am sure the vets know about using fov, and what it brings but there has been a massive influx of new players who are clueless to how arma and its controls work, just like myself!

More to the point Sebidee to your question...I think the hardcore scene will become bigger as we progress throughout early-alpha onwards. The controls will become more fluid, animations will play nice, difficulty will rise tenfold. Third person will get a nerf I am sure, but to what extent? I don't know, only time will tell.

Sorry for the long winded post :)

I was hoping they were going to make the SA 1st person only as 3rd person completely ruins the game and the only people who don't want it removed are terribads who need the crutch of seeing around corners. AKA 80% of the players which makes it so the people who aren't little girls can't even play 1st person servers because nobody is in them ever.

how the hell is 1pp more realistic?

Lol at those claiming 1PP requirez more skillz than 3PP. Why are you bitching about being able to see around corners? Obviously its not realistic, obviously this is a game. Obviously you can't handle it or you wouldn't be bitching about it playing on a server with it completely turned off like a child.

^you know ... these people

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DayZ is 5000x more amazing in 1st person and 92000000x more immersive you actually get the shit scared out of you if a zombie or player comes around a corner in your face. You know a big reason people KoS ... because in 3rd person you don't feel like you are your character you feel like you're controlling an avatar in a videogame.

The only excuse people who are pretending like they aren't desperatly relying on the crutch of corner camping can ever come up with is "we want to look at our characters sometimes" ... which you can do on the menu or any time by opening your inventory ... or "I'm bad at the controls for this game and can't remember if I'm crouched or not."

I love the people who act like every single shooter ever made wasn't 1st person only for the first 30 years shooters existed yet people seemed to manage and that 1st or 3rd person / hardcore or casual weren't even words to describe a game ... you were just playing a shooter. People who act like it's impossible to play a shooter in 1st person view are HIGHlarious.

I play both 1st and 3rd on stable and experimental so at any time I have 4 characters to play with and test. Gameplay is not different and the immersion is the same.  I do play it generally more cautiously on hardcore for some reason even when I don't see many people in the newer towns up North. What I like about 3rd person is that I can literally tell if my character is in cover or see if they are doing an animation or what stance they are currently in fast. What I like with 1st person is that I have 2 more character avatars to play with and generally looting on the servers are extremely easy regardless of population. So far all my hardcore interactions in the past few weeks have been very friendly and uneventful. Think I should start shooting peoples legs out from underneath them to liven up the dead servers and lack of crazy violent players. The gameplay is slower and you pay more attention to what you do see. However when it comes to navigation 3rd person is just infinitely better because of positioning perception of your character. You really do have better spacial awareness in regular and I see that as the main reason the community has always preferred having both options available.

I have a feeling private hives will all but make hardcore servers wither out even more. I only see maybe 5-10 medium populated servers on any given day on the entire server listing. Out of the many servers that lay empty for hardcore I see a very small active community of dedicated users. I expect to see a drop in hardcore server hosts in the near future. If we are arguing about immersion I find many issues with first person especially with interactive items and abstract map geometry and buildings. Ladders,stairs,doors,gates,looting,ect.... I can't count the amount of times I tried climbing stairs or tried interacting with things in first person and it was just a hassle. One of my most memerable moments was traveling in first person and navigating a hill side by Kamyshovo which is not very hard. I was fresh  spawn passing through and I failed to see a sudden drop in the hill that was a slope. I ramped off it and was stuck on a tree ,so I began vaulting and then was thrusted up into the sky. I came back down and died. I've passed by this hillside countless times before in the mod and this standalone but this time I died. I attribute it partially to me not paying attention but with the better navigation view in a regular server this crap rarely happens. Would help if these evil slopes were smoothed out as well though.

All in all though it doesn't matter which server hive you play on its worth doing both and sending others and yourself on coastal vacations as often as you can.

My main reason for playing on 3pp right now is the fact that I've got a shitty laptop that has truly horrid FPS drops whenever I look close to the horizon (probably a loss in framerate from trying to draw so much stuff, I suppose). On 3pp servers, I just look at a 45 degree angle to the ground, and I can squeeze a decent framerate out of my laptop. On 1pp, I just can't do that, my FOV is too low to make my playtime in any sort valuable. Once I get a new PC, I'll most likely switch over to 1pp.

But right now, I just can't play on 1pp servers

Immersion the same? Please Mr Muffins could you enlighten me, as to how you came to this conclusion  :)

I am a little confused by this. Yes majority of the HC servers are under-populated but there is still a few that are quite full.

Try playing on the full ones mate, you will find it's not the same.

How is 1pp more realistic than 3pp? Ok, well for starters can you see the back of your own head at all times in real life? Can you see 360 degrees around you in real life? Can you peek over a ten foot wall, or around it while face planting it?

1pp is FAR more realistic. You are lower down, you can see what your hands are doing when you eat/drink/bandage/look at a compass/reload. And when a zombie jumps at you you can see it's cold dead eyes right IN YOUR FACE!

For one, my head in real life doesn't bobble back and forth like it is attached to a spring. I can also rotate my eyes in their sockets, giving me close to 270 degrees of vision. In 1pp, it feels like your eyes are stuck facing forward, while you just turn your head.

If I zoom in all the way on 3pp, I can at least pretend i am moving my eyes to justify the expanded view.

The kid asking how is 1pp realistic is now claiming he can see 3/4 of the way around his head without turning it ... classic. Moving your eyeballs to the left or right doesn't make the edge of your eye lid and socket or the entire side of your head not be there. I've never heard of any disease or birth defect that allows you to slide your eyes around the the side of your head ...

In 1st person you feel like you're turning your head not moving your eyes even though you can't see your eyes and in fact your eyes do move but in 3rd person where you can see your head moving you can pretend like you're moving your eyes not your head ....

So basically what you're trying to tell us is that you'll use any excuse or lie you can think of to try and justify your desperate need of the corner peeking crutch? This applies to the post below mine too.

Played the on the first hardcore server I saw over 25 players a day ago and it was the same old same. Slow gameplay and easy looting mixed with moth people being in Electro circle jerking while leaving main Norther cities even ones like Berezino untouched for hours. My squad mates crossed the map from Electro talking about seeing firefights happening there to meet with a few of us waiting at Berezino and while we waited we saw no one pass through. After we all grouped up we visited Rifty,Svetlo,NEAF,Kransnovastav,The new chernars Polana or whatever it is then we croossed the map to the NWAF and Stary then went East to Gorka and returned back to Berezino and looted the entire place and ran into NO ONE the entire time with 25+ people on a hardcore server. It was pathetic that they were all clearly in the typical areas of the map of the South West. The immersion of a hardcore server is no different then a regular server. The main difference is that there are less people on hardcore and they still are fighting each other in the South West rather than exploring or navigating the map. Hardly any of the locations we visited were even touched and we played as a group for 4 hours that day. Immersion of Electro deathmatch is the same regardless of hardcore or regular servers.

Thanks for your reply Mr Muffins, I am not trying to tickle a debate from you I am genuinely curious :) It seems you had an uneventful experience, but it makes me wonder why you seen no one...?

The immersion bit is what has piked my interest.  From what I read out of your post, you definitely changed your pace when jumping in HC. You stated you slowed down, played more cautiously. Your game play was affected without you knowing it! This however can change when running in a group.

You came across 25 players, on how many servers? As it seems the 25+ on the one server where hiding from you! Where you by any chance running down main roads etc? I see this a lot more in HC servers, as people are not comfortable or get disorientated easy when heading into trees.

I am a HC player, so I can back myself up with hard experience and attest that not everyone hangs around on the coast in HC playing Death Match. There is a lot of skilled players out there in HC, they are probably watching you without you knowing it. Easy to presume were all fighting in the cities.

Mr Muffins, I know you said that immersion didn't change for you. I would like to challenge you to do a run-around on a full pop HC server by yourself. You may think it is quiet, due to the slower pace, you may get complacent and bored. You might start running instead of crouching, as nothing is "happening" but when them bullets rain down, or the sudden ambush that stops you mid-thought and trying to scope your surroundings without the 180* view. I guarantee the heart will rise, the sweat will pour and the panic will set in. :)

Oh the immersion  :D

I might add, my shortly lived experience with dayz and survivors. The people who stick to first person are the ones most likely to gauge a situation and take precaution when approaching towns/survivors zombies. Most don't run in to or near a group of armed survivors expecting to be friends. They watch, they wait, they learn. If nothing good can be had from a situation, it is time to move on!

There is a reason why we prefer hardcore. When you play it enough, you become invisible to most people, fairly.

wider field of vision and will be able to peek over and around walls.

You don't have a wider fov and yes you can peek around corners...get a camera and make two pictures. One from in front of your face and let someone else takea pic of your back from the same distance as in DayZ...it's the same fov it only looks wider because you seem to see more because it was taken from further behind.

But i do agree with your 3p ---> 1p experience. An "out of body experience" is kind of disorienting if you have to switch all the time, i also keep the habit of staying in 1p in case i have to connect on a 3p server.

agree and also truth

i have friends that will only and i mean ONLY play 3pp because 1pp is too disorienting or "hard" to keep situational awareness in.

aka some of them are scrubnubs

It is so f'ing stupid to complain about third person view when there is a game mode with plenty of servers without it...

It just boggles my mind.

One of my friends who I've been gaming with for over 10 years who used to win FPS tournaments with me once said upon learning I was on a Hardcore server "Why? You can't even look around walls" and again ... this is someone who used to participate and win tactical first person shooter competitions with me.

Grrr again? really? AGAIN?!?!

3rd is no exploit....everyone has it

Playing a 3pp server is more challenging for PvP....Hardcore = safety blanket for those AFRAID of peekers

If it was really about a higher degree of difficulty then youd just hit that button and play away

Its the cries of "level playing field" that show its a safety blanket

If it was really an immersion thing...again....insta immersion button right there.

Just because you carnt get your friends to play hardcore with you dosent mean whole game should go 1st only. Try harder to move your mates.....if you really believe its better show the devs by actually playing it and making it populated. That's the best way to sell them on this idea.

Personally I love what 3rd adds to the game. Really makes me feel connected to my character, and seeing him interact with the world all helps to tell "his story". I love the extra fear looting through towns knowing that someone could be behind any wall...any window...silently watching me preparing for the kill.

Man you scrubs sure are desperately trying to hold onto that crutch that makes you feel like you aren't terrible at the game because you can kill fresh spawns by magically seeing around corners huh?

Pretty funny that someone with a sig about choking combat loggers is so adamantly defending the game's built in wall hack claiming that using it makes you better than people who don't need to "cheat".

Man you 1st guys really do think your better for playing there....whats up...carnt admit ya afraid of the lil peekers. Its ok we all know, go be happy in bubble wrap land haha ;)

I can do that aswell

Answer this....why not just change view on a 3rd server to have immersion and higher PvP challenge?

^^^ every player enabling wall hacks and invincibility also puts you on a level paying field, but that doesn't mean that it offers the same quality of gameplay as playing without those hacks.

Idk where you are from, but there was this thing called segregation in the United States in the 20th century. Separate but equal. It was abolished because one side was clearly ruining the "game" for the other, and it caused/maintained a schism between the two communities.

Quit being a racist ;)
