I really love how the game looks and was excited when I first got it. There are little issues such as vehicles and chat that I want to see implemented. I am not too hard to please so I just want an enjoyable experience without hacks and people telling me how the game should be or how we all should play it. I play this game because I love the concept, the uncertainty, and the good times I have with people I know and complete strangers. You never know what to expect from one encounter to the next.

Your sig basically says it all. I am an avid Xbox Live player and I barely touch it anymore. There has been no other game that gives me the feeling that DayZ does...

I play this game cause there is simply, no other game like it, the interactions are never the same and it gets my heart pumping like nothing else.

Exactly! Its the only game I can play that literally gets my heart pumping.. any other game it takes a rage induced quit before Im anywhere near getting my adrenaline going. Also very few games out there have made me laugh so hard.

I swear, this game is either laughing or crying.. with silence in between

Started playing DayZ Mod around 1.7.7.1. I think DayZ is heading in the right direction. I am slightly disappointed that some of the "features" from the Mod aren't yet in the StandAlone and slightly frustrated that some of the "bugs" that were already resolved from the Mod are in the Standalone... THAT SAID, I understand that SA is going to be bigger, better, and more polished than DayZ mod ever was, EVENTUALLY.. and I'm more than happy to keep playing the game until that vision is realized.

I agree. I remember the mod as being truly groundbreaking when I started playing it, back in summer 2012 I guess and it got better as it progressed. The SA isn't really there in terms of content yet, which very much limits what experiences can be had in it compared with the mod. It's all planned though so I'll just hang about waiting :)

Never played the mod but watched my friend for countless hours as he played - I'll note that this is one of the only games I enjoy watching other people play.

Played the mod since the early days.

Really got into ARMA 2 when it came out in 2009.

I have barely any hours into the SA compared to most other players. I'm not all that interested in killing everyone I meet, people are pretty resistant to getting robbed in a peaceful manner nowadays.

I come from a mmo back ground. Games like Everquest, Star Wars Galaxies, Final Fantasy XI, ect. For me, two perspectives keep me logging in.

1. Accessibility. With no arbitrary stats to worry about, and that fleeting feeling of grinding for days and weeks for end game gear that you know will be worthless when the next patch hits. Dayz lets you get in and play from the get go. I consider stats replaced with some food, water, and a Mosin.

2. Human interactions. In traditional mmo's interacting with players is too carefree and uninteresting. Even the pvp, because it centralized and short lived, leaves a sense of longing after a while. Interactions with people in Dayz are intense and unabridged. Imo it truely defines immersion because you can't help second guessing what will transpire whenever you encounter anyone. I could elaborate, but you all understand the intensity this game projects on the psyche.

This is the only game where I felt guilty killing someone.

"He could have been someone who I could have befriended."

"No no no, he was after your stuff silly."

"I could have helped him out, I have the sks out he couldnt do anything"

"Fool, you have no friends, nobody likes you..."

I dont even scavenge the bodies of the people I've killed. I just move on.

This is basically it in a nutshell. You never know what's going to happen when you log in, everything is open and everything is game. Unlike COD or BF, Dayz is not predictable. In a FPS the only thing to do is kill the enemy but in Dayz, you don't know what another person might do and because you spent all that time acquiring all that loot (btw if anyone kills me they're going to have a field day with my fully stocked M4 Pristine, pristine hunter bag, tkso pants and jacket and combat vest, porno mag, vaseline, ummmm wait! I need to bury that shit before I die...).

All that investment and time and to lose it to some other player in a matter of seconds adds meaning to your gear.

The other day on a 40 pop server my mate and I crossed the road leading out of Kamenka. We were up the hill and there was a large rock formation on the other side (We were scouting the hills looking for bandits). So I went first, the idea to head for the rocks and my mate covered the trees behind. As I got to the road I heard someone reload and then the sound of bullet's being split. Needless to say I legged it back behind cover and then we spent the next 10 minutes checking everywhere. Finally I went back to the rock and circumvented it (sweaty palm time) and expected to die but found nothing. We heard the bullet spilt sound again so put it down to a bug but that sound put our hackles up.

It's amazing how you can go from feeling pretty much relaxed to sudden chest thumping in this game.

In regards to what you chose in the poll, discuss your thoughts on the Dayz standalone currently.. the future of the game, and why you play it.

Why I play it :

It gives me a rush that no other game can match

It has a great reward / punishment system

I constantly do the "same" set of tasks, yet I do not get bored ; Only game

Future :

Not sure. I cannot speak for that as of yet. It would be nice to see some sort of a design document that outlines that for us, but I hope it is a good future.

Rofl! so true! One moment I was relaxing on a roof, talking about the "5 second rule" and the next crawling to my death down the ladder.. :)

I started playing in January shortly after the Standalone came out. I'll fully admit that I had seen pictures, videos, and articles about the ridiculousness of this game and bought right into it along with like 10 of my friends, which never happens -- we can never ALL like one single game as a group, and this game pulled off the impossible! I've loved every minute of my experience too, both the good and the bad. Nothing I have ever played before has been anything even remotely like this. This game is like all of my favorite things wrapped up into one neat little package; like the kind of game I imagined playing in the future as a kid 10 or 15 years ago, except now it actually exists and I can play it whenever I want :)

Well said, folks. Absolutely no other game makes me feel the weight of my actions and the reality of what is going on around me quite like this game. It's so simple and yet so satisfyingly ridiculous!
