Actually, DayZ is very far from a direct port. Also, it does not run on the ARMA3 engine although the actual engine utilizes some goodies from RV4. It runs on a heavily modified version of ARMA2 engine.

 

I thought I'd just correct you on that.

Alpha is when players test and provide feedback on the game. Some people do this via criticism, complaining, or being not as civil and apologetic as you want them to. The only thing you can't do during Alpha is assume the game will always be as shit as you think it is currently, but you can call it shit and you can point out flaws.

 

Why?

 

So the developers get to hear your complaints and perhaps take them into account.

 

We are here to provide feedback and criticism on the game to help shape it into something fantastic. Yelling ALPHA at people who suggest stuff is the stuff I expect from fanboy numbskulls.

It's a sandbox video game. Since most have different interests and tastes, we don't need to be "tryhards" or "fanboys" to enjoy the game, even in it's Alpha stage. I've tested about 15 alphas, and 40 betas, and enjoy this process a lot. Seeing the game evolve and dealing with bugs/glitches. But that's me. To each his own.

 

The DayZ mod is still in Alpha stage, and I'm still playing it. I enjoy those games, they entertain me even if some find them boring.

 

American Idol, I hate it, I don't watch it, but millions do.... Should they stop making more of these shows because I loathe them? No, it's just me, I can just switch the channel.

Rust. Regular week updates maximum a update every 2 weeks. And its not little updates, its major updates that are completely game changing. Adding new items , adding / changing animals , deleting / changing zombies , new weapons , new gameplay styles, new animations all come on a regular basis. They sold just as much as DayZ as sold yet they are pushing updates 2 or 3 x faster than DayZ with little to no game breaking bugs.

it is dead and being propped up by BI to keep Arma 2 sales up/ generate hype for the SA

 

tryhards and fanboys are the reason this game is progressing slowly.

they are seeing what they want to see, BECAUSE FEELS, and ignoring the flaws and massive bad decisions yet to be implemented.

 

alpha is a work in progress, not a state of being. critizing the alpha is not critizing the full product.

a lot of people are playing this for the first time, not knowing this port of the mod is LESS COMPLETE AND FUN than the mod.

 

they dont want to hear anything "negative" and nothing negative is said and the devs think we like the game being this slow to progress and things like "zombies" become less important and things like "companion pets" do.

Yep, except most of the idiots on here including the Op of this post isn't helping with bug reports, constructive criticism or anything that would be helpful. Read the Ops post, he's being a troll and a dick.

Show me how many times someone has SUGGESTED something and got the "Alpha" treatment and I am sure I can show you 10x the post where dickheads are crying they game is going to fail, the game is shit I get lots of lag and my character got reset, ETC ETC.

With the exception that they took a client based system and reworked it to an authoritative based structure, rebuilt the central database (hive) that Arma isn't meant for

Rust sold games for 100+ because they're greedy as fuck. I played for over a month and I saw no changes. Nothing. I saw a few animation fixes, and wood that goes poof when you hit it, and I saw zombies removed cause they didnt want to be "A DayZ clone" anymore.

I do, however, think it's important that we are all able to notice the difference between constructive criticism and blatant complaining or whining. There's a pretty thick line separating the two. If it wasn't for the latter, no one would ever need to yell out "Alpha". More often than not, I see threads created in anger or disgust and are subsequently filled with negative remarks, swearing, and nothing particularly constructive. These threads are not helpful in any way and no one is going to want to reply to them in a thoughtful manner if the OP wasn't able to create a thoughtful thread to begin with. 

 

 

In regards to this thread, I'm not really sure how it helps progression even if it's not particularly negative. The recent progress has been rather slow, but we've been told this is due to a few major bugs that are particularly hard to pin down and iron out. We KNOW that we will soon have a physics engine, hunting, cooking, and will later have more advanced features such as vehicles and base building. Many of these systems are being completely reworked for the standalone and that requires more time and will introduce the possibility of more intrusive bugs which in turn take even more time to iron out.

 

TL;DR - I don't find this thread constructive.

Don't you guys all know you can easily download a 700mb exp. buildto get all the wonderful new features? 5 weeks ago if be the asshat saying "it's alpha, you didn't pay to "play" the game blah blah..."

Now it just seems in limbo, looking at the last 3.5 months as a whole, nothing has really happened. All were going to see now is less transparency from the devs since they got so much backlash from saying they were gonna patch twice last week.
