ArmA 3 Stances in DayZ

Recommended Posts

Back when I thought DayZ-SA was based on the ArmA3 engine, I honestly thought this was going to be a standard feature in SA, and one of the biggest things to seperate the difference between the rugged movements of the mod and the standalone. Aside fromt eh fact of the ArmA3 engine being used. Then i realised the game was built on a mash-up between arma 2 and ToH, meaning SA would use an old engine (in my beliefe, not making it future proof, and restricted). I was severely dissapointed SA was NOT made with the ArmA3 engine, nor did it include the benefits of such an engine, such as the stances that came with it, and otherwise smoother gameplay it offered.  Hopefully they add in these stance features, AND make the gameplay smoother with this new engine parts they are implementing. THEN, I will loose all hope of a social life, and not until then.

It doesn't matter if they're military or not...

All we need is more in-between's of the current stances so we can look through windows properly and stand on our toes to get loot from the top of the lockers in 1PP.

What I'm getting at is the common "W-w-we're n-not military guys. We're un-t-t-trained civilians ingame. We shouldn't know how to do X!" explanation is a horrible response people throw around here when a lot of the topics in question would be quite straightforward.

Where does it say that I or any of us are untrained civilians in the game? What if somebody roleplays a highly trained military personnel?

But yeah, the stances need to be in game, doesnt really matter what they look like.

Until this day,I still don't understand why devs are so against implementing this system in DayZ.

Yeah sure, one can argue that your common survivor isn't a trained infantry member, but still, this is nothing extraordinary.

But,Hey...i'm sure your average Joe would instead be able to perform blood transfusions or skin animals and create rucksacks out of them...

Let's be realistic here, learning how to cook would prove a bigger challenge for me than learning using these cover tactics.

Besides, the movement and cover mechanics were always clunky,if this is implemented it would enhance firefights tenfold.

There.

Does not matter what you role play as in real life its not going to turn the survivor into a military trained character.

I can role play as a Eastern European pornstar all I want but it will not give my character a 9 inch slong .

What's there? Nothing that I was talking about.

And yes there are pornstars with small dicks.

What was your stance hah on bringing Arma3 stances to DayZ again? You have enough sense to think some untrained man would try to keep as little of himself exposed in a shootout as possible right? We're excluding literally every fighter from Syria and surrounding countries though.

My stance is bring the arma 3 stances with a Civilian aesthetic.

None of those fighters in Syria even remotely look like the arma 3 characters.

I believe you can mimic the functionality of arma 3s stances while not looking as silly and over the top military like arma 3 does.

Arma 3s stances even look silly for a military game they are so over the top and silly at times , copying them exactly over to dayz would be even sillier since the characters are just regular civilians.

The only one you could call silly is the one where you spread your legs like the popular girl in highschool. Everything else is there for your character to look just over an object. Even the tight crouch is reasonable.

Oh I stand corrected.

Just for the sake of conversation what would the non military stances look like? I mean the ass dragging might be too much  but the others look pretty natural to me.

Like its been pointed out, there are plenty of plot holes  in the game already from blood transfusions to fixing trucks. Not saying we need more.. just saying that this one isnt so special that anyone who seen anykind of action movies could replicate into certain extent.

I disagree, i think the devs will have their own stances, ArmA 3 is it's own thing, dayz is it's own thing. Don't think they should copy each other in that sort of way.

Hunting stances for instance.

They can achieve the same level of functionality as the Arma 3 stances while making the characters look like ordinary people with subtle changes to the animation .

Looks good, especially the sitting one and the other 3 we already have them in the game.

I think the stances between crouching and standing are the most important ones and are also the most weird looking ones (in arma 3). Dont know if they can be transformed to more civilian type of stances, whatever those may be.

Add ArmA 3 Stances to DayZ

a3_stance_adjust.jpg

Has already been discussed a little in this thread. But even the OP said there should be a new thread opened for the idea because it acctualy wasnt realy related to his suggestion.

So it would simply add more stances to the game. ZXC would be still the keys for quick change between prone, crouch and stand. But with a combination of keys you could go a little lower while crouching for example untill you are completly prone again. Would make it easier to shoot from behind cover.

Im not hooked on the idea. I just wanted to create a topic where ppl can discuss it.

I think it would a good thing but not too necessary.

I dont own any right on this idea. All rights go to AsOiX.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! For the Love of God PLEASE!!

i agree with this. A3 is great, but it's all about weapon position.

Surviving is more about being aware of surroundings. So stances should be about eye level and exposure. Crawling prone shouldn't block all vision, trying to look around corner shouldn't expose entire body, looking out windows shouldn't be a problem. The stances should center around these situations.

So what would that bring to 3pp? I don't know, but it would level 1pp awareness close to a limited 3pp.

As the 3PP camera is finally worked with, the more and more I believe that DayZ is far too complicated of a game to have the simple standard of

Stand

Crouch

Prone

While there are things that I don't like about Arma 3...well, lots of things, one thing that is excellent in that game is my ability to micromanage the position that my character was standing in.

For those of you who didn't play the game or who did and just don't utilize it...Arma 3 allows for a wide variety of different player stances and positions. You had the basic "standing, crouching, proning" positions, but you could also raise up your gun just a little higher while standing, lower yourself a little more while sitting, even lay on the ground with your ear to the dirt and your rifle as low as possible. You would position your body to the side and around corners for a peek, you could even lay on your side with your gun at the ready around a wall. So you would have, instead, something along the lines of...

High Standing

Standing

Low Standing

Crouching

Low Crouching

Proning

Low Proning

This ability to manage your player profile and minimize the area that your character shows to a potential enemy would be even more useful in DayZ where (hopefully please god almighty) players will not be the bullet sponges they currently are or like Arma 3 had them. As the 3PP camera finally winds down from Peekaboo mode that allows you to see everything and expose nothing, more and more will the desire for me to want to put myself into reasonable positions grow.

DayZ, I think, is far too comlicated and intricate to limit itself to leaning your body to the side in an honestly unrealistic and uncomfortable fashion.

Maybe additions to the new animation systems will allow for more incremental posturing.

Something between the functionality of what we have now and ARMA III is most likely I think.

I've heard people talk about a weapon resting mechanic from ARMA as well, and that sounded nifty....

Weapon resting for Arma III is very good, I hope they will introduce weapon resting in Dayz as well as Arma III stances.

I don't think we should have ALL of the A3 stances but a subset, at least so you can look out/through certain openings like windows. The window pane shouldn't be an obstacle to looking out the window.
