☣BioHaze☣ 7337 Posted November 6, 2013 Can we change the terminology to "FPS guys" instead of "CoD kiddies"? It was a thing before CoD.... guys who basically just play FPS games all the time. They're not entertained unless shooting something/someone. These are the same people who call Smash Bros "button mashing". Survival horror should always pit you against non-violent elements and offer many challenges outside of combat. With the right gameplay balance I'm hoping some FPS guys will shy away from DayZ in favor of another game that offers more instant gratification. Personally I would have 0 interest in DayZ if I wanted a constant PvP experience. I came to DayZ for what I thought would be a MMO survival horror experience or what might be characterized as an open world Resident Evil of sorts. For a time, it was glorious....
Zanders 65 Posted November 6, 2013 Dayz is one of the best games available. The only thing that really makes it bad is the lack of things to do in it. Hopefully the standalone will make a difference there and focus a lot on things to do for the player. Second thing i really think is sad is the textures, they are from arma 2 or looks a lot like them. I wish they would have started from arma3 to make things look better. But its good enough i guess. I just hope things like controls etc are better and altered for this game rather than arma2 as a simulator.Even if this game wont deliver according to my taste at least future games in same setting will have to do some work to be better and thats always good!
SalamanderAnder (DayZ) 1747 Posted November 6, 2013 Rocket has openly agreed that the major problem is the lack of things to do. So I think we can look forward to more content.

sav112g 114 Posted November 6, 2013 (edited) Interesting concept adding things to do. I hate the whole building thing it has to be said, I prefer it to be a roaming shooter. I’d hate missions to pop up as I feel that’s not realistic who’s interested in a mission, I’d be more interested in who was giving the mission to get me out of dodge when the world is a Zombies fest to safety. I generally (and this is by only watching streams and never playing the game) its too easy to survive in the mod. Zombies are a slight annoyance. Food & water seems plentiful. I don’t know if they are bringing in a whole infection slant that sure would give you something to do if you became ill. Plus a visible sign players were ill would add an edge to meeting up with new folk. I think if the number of players in a server jumps and contact becomes more frequent its going to take some of the boredom away. m.w. vindicator 880 Posted November 6, 2013 Why mix german, american and british weaponry in the same post? and if they are the enemy then who are you and your allies? Just doesn't make sense to me.It Was a post about being radical. The intent was not to make sense. Te the lading craft the troops were taking fire from German bunkers, many of which were equipped with mg34. The landing craft were covered by the navies. I randomly decided that it would the sound of the big guns from a British cruiser. The. Germans often used 37mm auto cannons for air defense. On d-day , those AAA guns would have been blasting away all day on d-day. So there you go. Explaination

You don't get STDs from everyday objects lol haha. Antibiotics can help most bacterial stds. Viral ones are another thing entirely. I guess I am just speaking for myself. sav112g 114 Posted November 6, 2013 (edited) Looking a bit old school here but I thought this steam thing and not having to burn and deliver the game would mean cheaper but I’ve just looked and some of the games I’ve been looking at for when I get my new PC are £5 more? How does that make sense. Buy it online for more or walk into a shop and get it boxed for cheaper? Example FM14 is £34.99 on steam but you can download it on steam through (Game uk) shop for £28. Why the different prices? What is the £34.99 quoted off the main page. Boxed games out the same (game uk) shop is only £30. http://store.steampowered.com/app/231670/ http://www.game.co.uk/en/football-manager-2014-255524 Will DayZ be priced like this? As I’ve never used steam before or the like. Used to buying games boxed. Edited November 6, 2013 by sav112

Anyways, is the enviorment going to show changing seasons over time? Such as falling leaves in the fall? Snow in the winter? Storms during the summer? Would be an awesome addition in terms of immersion :)

In colleges, for example, it's been the case that people have gotten an STD from sitting at the toilet seat, because the toilet seat had been infected. Do you even know how these things work or do you just comment randomly? This is why you don't share a dildo, or a condom, or any other object used during sexual intercourse - because these things can carry STDs and other nasties. Plus a visible sign players were ill would add an edge to meeting up with new folk. I think if the number of players in a server jumps and contact becomes more frequent its going to take some of the boredom away. Rocket has said as much, but it's less about having things to do as it is about having things to occupy your time. Things like managing hunger/thirst (which will actually be significant), more interesting ways of getting food/drink, more debilitating diseases, etc. This is undertaken largely to discourage KOS, the logic being if one has to manage all of these things, one will be less likely to just focus on purposefully killing folks. Likewise, there is a side-effect of just adding content. Like if you add a ton of cool looking bullet-proof vests, I'll probably be scouring the map looking for just the right one rather than being stuck with a cookie-cutter version like we have with most items in the mod. If you mean player constructed buildings, I would disagree with you. Having a fixed place to stay doesn't necessarily mean people won't roam, in fact it will probably require one to roam to maintain/stock the structure. Likewise, we've heard very little about this aspect. Rocket has said that he's interested in some sort of instanced underground bunkers. I'm not sure this is the way to go, or the only way to go. I would much rather have the residential buildings in-game be able to be fortified (through investment of significant time/defeatable resources) and used for shelter, and I'd love to have shelter actually be significant. Similarly, clans could secure small villages which would open up some great roleplay/gameplay opportunities. Imagine approaching a small village, only to see a roadblock 1000m out in the woods with skulls and stuff hanging from barbed wire with a sign saying "KEEP OUT". As for missions, if this type of thing is implemented, it should be entirely organic. Like you find a note in a house saying "There's a dead patrol of soldiers in X town, around X building" or a small map detailing a stash. Likewise, having things like helicopter crash events places the onus of choice on the player of whether or not to investigate.
