It has been this way for quite awhile now. Everyone's too lazy to go up north anymore. Too lazy to find a car even.

It's all about Balota, Cherno, and Elektro now.

Very true, ive started to make my base just north of cherno now because i can easily walk to cherno and have some fun, because thats where everyone generally hangs out now, kinda lame and makes the other half the map useless, hopefully this trend wont go through the standalone, which im sure it wont.

Lazy? eh maybe

there is really nothing to do anymore. It's gotten way too repetitive; go up north, get some gear, RIP.

I can understand why people would rather sit at the coast and kill others

I never find anyone in Elektro these days, I control the damn town for the most part when I manage to get into a game anymore.

I just want to point out that I read your post count as 21% posts.

Lots of people leave the coast in Epoch, or at least the server I play. I always find people in the randomest places and in the little cities when I'm driving through.

Its really server dependant. some servers with High percentage of clan regulars will have very hot NWA and surrounding areas, many bases hidden up north. newer servers and those populated heavily by loners and small groups of PvPers will be focused near spawn areas for more action.

Mods like Epoch, as much as I prefer Vanilla, gives people a reason to go north.

DRB continues to do its part luring people north (albeit to their deaths) by any means necessary ;)

I go north because I'm nosy and don't enjoy the PvP-fest that is the coast.

I find people far north are more interesting, and extremely unwilling to die because they know it's a painful run back even with the best spawn.

The coast doesn't have the cool cars I want anyway.

I would disagree.  As SalamanderAnder's heat map shows, there is a lot of traffic up north.  Especially around Stary and NWAF.  The problem is the map is so damn BIG.  If you distributed all the players on a full server evenly around the map, there would still be something like almost a mile between players.  And since we know that the players don't distribute evenly, the congregate around the coasts and hot spots, that's a lot of wilderness to wander around in without coming across another player.

The other problem is the giant map is mostly empty and uninteresting.  There's a lot of trees and nothing between points of interest.

I don't think it's that bad IMHO.  It creates this dynamic where you basically spawn into a meat grinder.  But if you just want to survive and avoid all that, there's plenty of room to do that up north.

The SA should fix a lot of that simply by making more buildings explorable and fleshing out the towns a bit.

I don't understand why people hate that MOD. I watched people on youtube playing it and I thought it'd be a lot of fun.. too bad I quit Day Z long ago, because I want Day Z Standalone to feel fresh to me when it comes out.

I have to agree with that.

I spend time around Klen because there is a trader base there with walls and a front and back entrance, so to speak, so it is a good place to go if you are going to trade some items away. At this point we mostly collect the more "expensive" guns and make a run every so often in a vehicle to trade them away. It takes a bit and you have to put the gun in as your main gun to trade it so we typically do it in pairs with one guy covering the one doing the trading. We also visit the Hero trader up by NEAF.

We hit the Factory between Polana and Orlovets as well as the one North of Solnichniy for building supplies. Same thing for the industrial area near the coast in Berinzino.

Our actual base is up near Skalka, which frankly is a place we wouldn't have otherwise visited much but now sees a bunch of traffic. Too open to hide vehicles and tents and too near NWAF to risk except for the fact we can build walls and locked doors and slow people down if not stop the truly determined from looting our stashes.

We frequently scan other ares of the map because there are not just helicopter crashes which spawn a couple loot piles but "Mass Graves" which spawn a ton of zombies but have military level gear spawn deep in the pile where it is hard to see and you have to scan bit by bit. There are supply drops which drop useful building materials and now a crate you can destroy that might spawn some vehicle ammo since after server restarts vehicles have no ammo.

Since we still like to hit the normal spots and will sometimes hit Elektro/Cherno when we feel the need for a bit more risk we actually use a LOT more of the map than I do in Vanilla where we tend to keep to ourselves out of the way. There are some real hotspots on the map that just are not worth the risk without a lot of backup.

Oh, I don't hate it, I mean I help administrate servers for it and it's really a lot of fun at times, but I'm more of a vanilla guy myself.

if everyone is so lazy going up north , why don't play dayz utes or something like that is smaller ?

Because a lot of people that play dayz don't understand what is going on. They see sacriel and Frankie kicking whole-sale-ass on YouTube, buy arma, install commander, etc, and then find a mod with players on it. It's a snowball effect.

If a server full of 50 players were distriputed around the map evenly there would have to be at least 5 miles in between each player. I guess I could be wrong but woudnt there have to be quite a bit more than just 1 mile between each player. Thats not very far really.
