Well fortunately I suppose this isn't gravedigging, otherwise I wouldn't bring it to light even, but this thread's comically accurate. I was giving a guy a lift so he could re-acquire his huey and having an alright time for a few people on the server. As I fly over the area we have the misfortune of seeing another player drive up to the huey and hop on an m240. I fully expect to get shot down at this point and try to just fly away but get shot down and slam into the water. The adventure continues and we get out of the downed heli and make for shore. The guy I'm helping is in far worse condition than myself from what I can tell, and I make it to land first. He says he's stuck, which he visibly is, and asks me to shoot him. This was all over sidechat and an admin says he has to go around the riptides or something, can't quote verbatim. I thought he was joking, and just to be safe I tell this guy with me ArmA doesn't have riptides, and the admin responds that they added them and I shouldn't talk about things I don't know about. I kill the guy, who is stuck, and he says he spawned near and I decide to wait to help him out with gear since I basically cost him a huey. So while I'm waiting I reply "So hostile" to the admin's last remark and I get kicked. Okay I'll inquire later, enough DayZ for now. I get on today and someone gets kicked, a friend asks the admin why his pal got kicked and then he is also kicked. I laugh at how silly that was and ask for clarification on my kick and that whole situation. I'm told I was being rude and preventing an admin from helping a player, the same player I was staying logged in to help. I get kicked again when I repeat that I don't understand how that wasn't helpful and that I didn't argue beyond pointing out the admin's hostility. Again I am kicked. I try to join their Teamspeak, of which the IP listed on their server is wrong or just didn't work at the time, and I find this thread, as well their official site, which is just a banner for their two servers. It has the proper teamspeak address and I finally get in. Phantum Ranger is there, I try to get his attention which didn't work so I logged back in the server and asked the admin who kicked me to get on Teamspeak and tell me there if they don't want to discuss it over side in the server. Instead, Phantum Ranger joins my chat, which is fine since he's the main admin, and I ask for clarification. Without hesitation he talks over me as soon as I ask him what's going on and says he's read the logs and how I was keeping an admin from helping another player. Then he starts actually yelling. Yelling at me! By now it's just funny. I post the link to this thread and wait as he continues to tell me how immaculate the admins here for Smoking Ash and how they do no evil. I finally just tell him to click the link and state how his admins obviously do kick/ban for silly reasons and am banned from both the Teamspeak and Namalsk server. _______________________________________ I've seen them kick multiple people, ultimately banning them when they ask "Why?", as I've played. It's a regular occurrence. That the server manages to keep going is bothersome when there are better servers. If you mention you think there might be a hacker, you will be kicked and ultimately banned. I also am a bit irked by the fact that Phantum Ranger likes to tout how he's "USMC Recon for 6 years", where integrity and maybe some sort of professionalism would be instilled.

    US3481 Private Hive Is Open!

That's unfortunate, hopefully things pick back up, 3480's the most fun I've had on DayZ and the only server that kept me coming back. Definitely was a good run but I can't say I want it to end either, even though my personal time to play has dwindled as well. Whatever happens, thanks for maintaining it so well, I know many people appreciate it and just don't know how to contact you about it.

    US3481 Private Hive Is Open!

Good to hear. I was looking into 3480, it's been awhile, and was about to ask you about it when I saw you posted this. I hope I get enough time to kill hours here again. EDIT: However it doesn't appear to be all that active like 3480. What's happened?

    Correcting SA ballistics

No one said the game is done, the purpose of participating in this Alpha is feedback and squashing bugs. I certainly hope this isn't intended or final because it's awful. This is one reason I simply don't play the Standalone right now. Did you play the mod? ArmA 2 had relatively realistic ballistic behavior, DayZ's is silly.

    Problems with brightness

I read you have to turn clouds off for the gamma exploit to work. Haven't checked myself but nights are pretty dark on Earth with no artificial light sources or moonlight

    Well this is cute..........

Hunker down until it's light enough to see.

    Stealth Zombie updates

I've had zombies walk through the stairs instead of going up them the first day SA came out and ever since I last played in December. As for hidden zombie updates, I don't care.
  8. US 3480 is still popular and appears to have a lot of new guys trying out DayZ on it as well. Lately I've been just mucking about on casual Wasteland-ish servers that have a decent population of 20-30. Staying away from the standalone until server hopping is fixed and hopefully combat logging as well.

Could DayZ be done better on a different engine?

I don't know much about engines and their capabilities, but the RV engine seems unique as far as I can tell and is probably our best bet. That's ignoring that the devs making the game are already familiar with RV so it makes things easier for everyone should they stick with what's familiar and proven to work. For me it's more noticeable with the firearms and vehicles than anything else. I don't care if Just Cause 2 had a map 500x larger, the vehicles were ugly, handled poorly, and the gunplay was as arcade as it comes. Does that make it a bad game? No, but it shows that just having one aspect (size) doesn't mean it can compete with the other aspects the RV engine brings. The vehicles in ArmA have, for the most part, working gauges and rendered insides for the entire vehicle and they handle "realistically" as well. It's obviously not dead-on, but it's better than most games and it causes for interesting gameplay. DayZ has a large map and later on will have vehicles along with more cities and over 90% of the buildings being enterable and persistent zombies and loot. What other game has all that and does it well on a different engine? In short: I don't think so.

I wish the arrow will be implemented as soon as possible

Okay. Not sure why that's directed at me but okay. I'm unfamiliar with using bows and crossbows at various ranges and how you compensate for the variables at hand, so I'm not going to even discuss that. Not my place.

I wish the arrow will be implemented as soon as possible

But in games, at least every game with a bow I've played, it's as if everyone else in the world is incapable of hearing the loosing of an arrow even if you're near them. It irritates me and I'd expect it to be very quiet, but not something you can just use to shoot one guy in a group from 10m away and no one know where it came from.

I wish the arrow will be implemented as soon as possible

I'd like this but they'd be such a pain to use from what little I know. In terms of getting an accuracy shot since it is a bow and arrow and will no doubt need to be arched unless you're really close. I'm not against it, as long as they're not like most games where no one else can hear the bow and you can't just knock and arrow, draw it back, and hold it for a minute lining up the shot. Would be good for hunting quietly though to avoid attracting attention, assuming we can't just hatchet the deer to death. Also, in terms of keeping the weaponry in line with logic, I don't see Chernarus having a lot of modern compound bows or whatever, but I could be wrong. If we could make bows and arrows that'd be nicer but obviously less lethal and require more precision.

    Morphine Addictive

When I broke my ankle I had a button to give myself a dose, and while I didn't use it, when I woke up knowing it was in me I didn't feel another need for it but it fucked with my senses, or I attributed it to the morphine. An addiction if you use it often (why would you?) would be interesting, but even more so would be the side effects. Sure it magically fixes your broken bone, but it needs to screw you up a bit, if only for a little while.

    Opening cans in RL

No one ever suggests opening cans take this long or be this noisy though. :(

"Friendlies" are just a bunch of lamers

You just said you wrote "shit" so that might as well be the end of this thread.
