Majority of playerbase are kids?

Recommended Posts

Yes and no. In Epoch you can "trade" your way up into a decent gun instead of running the same loot spawns over and over but that really isn't any easier. For example a DMR is 4 gold and the ammo 8 silver on a server that doesn't have tons of vehicles and all the other things you can find on a private server making it easier, you are talking about finding a few good guns and trading them in and saving up. That is 4 AKs for the gun and a little under an AK or M16. Now 8 Lee Enfields = a DMR mag so you tend to go to the places you might find a DMR anyway unless you get lucky and find a vehicle you can get to a trader in a good condition and sell.

The issue is that more than half the Epoch servers out there have towing and 400+ vehicles so it's easy to make gold on them.

Saving up to buy a locked vehicle and then for things like Plot Poles to protect your built structures from being simply removed or someone building up to them(build a ladder over a wall anyone) is a serious investment in time and energy on a server where a normal amount of vehicles spawn like 50 and a single person can't ferry numerous vehicles over and over.

The OP needs to not play on the "Self Bloodbag - 1000+ vehicles - custom loadout - Tow&Lift" servers.

the epoch server i play on has a good way to counteract that, there are only a few vehicles more than vanilla dayz, so that is a not a good way to make money. The second is the modified trader system.  The only unit of currency is gold, 10oz gold and breifcases. So the buying prices are real high because the lowest unit is gold an example would be the SVD camo would cost 7 10oz golds and only sells for 5 gold. So it takes real work to get loaded in the server like a guy i played with Toph he has 134 full breifcases he and his group are dedicated to the server and like to demonstrate their power. Toph goes to starry with his AA-12 with explosive rounds and takes out the water tower.  The only way to get really stocked it to do the missions and get stuff from them.

I'm not sure, I'm laying on the boundary between "acceptable" and "c0d kid". I'm saying that because the majority of people generalize by age. I'm still hitting the highs, but my voice is reasonable(the only forum member I know for sure who has heard me talk is Burt and Inception.). Now, Inception. is also fifteen. His balls have dropped and then some. Hell, if he never told me I'd guess he was 23. And even if MOST 12-13 year old kids playing this game may play death match servers, it doesn't mean they are all "c0d kids".

I just ignore them.

I tend to avoid grouping with younger people becasue they usually have nothing interesting to talk about.

OP needs to grow up a bit himself. The majority of people who play games are underage, so it would make sense if a large amount of the playerbase was younger. Nothing wrong with the younger players......mostly, my only issue with most of the younger guys is that all they care about is pvp, and that obsession has been overindulged on most servers.

btw what i've played of epoch is pure pvp shite, so that's going to account for the maturity of the people you play with. I don't know why admins try and run epoch with safezones and such, it must be a nightmare to police.

I try to be decent. I don't say stupid Sh** in Sidechat. I can't say that I act mature. I try to be mature. My mic screws up my voice real bad so my 'murican accents get messed up and I sound like a six year old though. Most of the Irish people I've met are around my age and act mature, not very boisterous.

It can be rather difficult but with the right scripts, it isn't very hard anymore.

This is horse shit. The average age of video gamers is 30, with 37% being OVER 30 years of age. Look it up.

I still haven't come across any "kids" (12-15) on the server that I play, and this is an Epoch server too. Very PvP heavy not to mention.

It's not about age, but maturity. Ok, that's terrible but I'm actually only 13. I think we get such bad press cause of the the Cod kids who are so blood annoying. People don't think I'm 13 until I point it out!!

Wow, wow. No need to call me a "buddy," it's not like I've directly offended you or anything!

What? I call everyone buddy. Buddy. Pal. Bud. Champ. Slugga. Bro. Dude. Man... These are the words I use.

I could refer to you as Overlord Dick Juggler in future if you like though?

I think one of the problems is that a majority of kids (Under 16) have never played a game like DayZ.

Every game released in years (Bar a select few) have all pretty much been total faceroll games - Call of Duty, Battlefield, Gears of War, Halo, Minecraft - all very popular games and they are all decent games in their own right but they are VERY forgiving and require no real thought at all to complete.

I couldn't imagine half of todays 'gamers' play a lot of older games which didn't hold your hand, didn't give you 'saves' every 2 seconds, didn't let you respawn with all your stuff straight away.

One of my all time favourite games, Super Mario World, one of the first games I completed and one that I never get bored with, it's a simple game.. maybe one or two saves per level - when they re-released it for WiiU some people were SO confused that it didn't hold their hand and direct them through EVERYTHING.

No tutorial, no arrows pointing to an objective, no hints - but a solid game that for a generation or two it was easy to pick up and blast through most of it even with no prior knowledge.

That's what all these younger gamers are used to, they're used to being told where to go, what weapon to use, how to get there and get their hand held if they die to the point where various games give them boosts if they suck rather than punting them back to the Main Menu to try again like the failure they are.

It's not their fault a lot of the time, it's what they've grown up with - terribly easy games that require no thought, everyone shit-talking each other because there are no real consequences online and just shooting each other - no intelligence required.

Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of players below 16 that I wouldn't have a problem with but it's very hard to deny that the current generation of gamers growing up have had a VERY different and overly-forgiving experience compared to every other generation up until this point.

That is really what it's all about.

They are used to being constantly pandered to, they are used to the instant-gratification, they don't want to put effort in to getting gear.

I've tried once or twice to play on one of the silly 500+ Vehicles, Start with M4 yadda yadda servers just to see what all the fuss was about.

I asked some of the players (Pretty much all of them younger) WHY they played on a server like this, the answer was pretty much unanimous in that they thought having to go look for guns took too long and it was too hard without vehicles.

They are used to being in control and the game trying to make it easier for them by giving them hints and such, a lot of them just don't really know HOW to take a game that constantly tries to fuck them over - they don't understand WHY you want to play a game that's hard.

A lot of players play it for the challenge but unfortunately since it got really big on Steam there are also a lot of players that bought it because it was the 'big' game and are trying ever so hard to force DayZ to meet the silly expectations that they have for every other game rather than buying DayZ for that which made it popular in the first place - it's unforgiving.

I'm 21 years-old, I'm not exactly old by any stretch of the imagination and I started playing games when I was pretty young, 8 or 9 maybe at most - I could tell you for a fact though that if I were to have grown up now, I'd be the exact same - they grow up learning that you can be a total dick, ruin the experience for other players and there are no repercussions - I wasn't exactly immature but I certainly shouldn't have been thrown into a chat with other players at that age.

The only thing that can really change this is the Standalone - if it forces them to play DayZ rather than the poor excuse for a game they are playing they will be forced to change their few or forced to find another game.

It's not that I'm trying to force people to play the way I like to play, it's that if they are playing the same game as me, they should be on equal grounds to me - not giving themselves an advantage at every opportunity - people WILL take the easy route if the ability is given to them.

I was going to make a relevant post to this topic but by the time I read to this page either I am:

a) - 12 years old and my attention span issues mean I am now tossing off while borrowing Orlok's notebook

b - 40 years old and my mental faculties are failing me and kids these day eh what was I here for again?

I suppose that's my way of saying "it's not where you're from, it's where you're at"

Nope, got it wrong again. Maybe: "40 is the new 20?"

No, dammit. How about my very basic way of looking things:

2 types of people in this world.

Good blokes and wankers.

If you're a good bloke you're a good bloke.

If you're a wanker you're a wanker.

End of. Age is in the eye of the beholder.

edit: Though Rossums did make some excellent points.
