They have just posted a picture of sunshine.... we could understand the sunshine like "the bright end of a tunnel" or like "they can see light at the end of a tunnel" wich could mean they're doing some nice progress.

Or they just wanted to show their fancy sun effects to us. Or were just creating stories and "what could they mean with that" around all those pictures, posts etc. to create a logic story for our brain, cause thats what its made for, solving stuff. Or we are just crazy. I think the last point matches always.

 

And don't ya'all forget, rocket has to cut the grass of cherno before they are ready to release.

Gonna take a break from the forums and force myself not to check back for a while I think; doubt I will be the only one.

 

Not to sound too pessimistic or angry and I'm still looking forward to the standalone, but I'm pretty disappointed by the long wait and the lack of communication.

 

Checking the forums every day without a piece of information (generic "we're testing" messages don't count) gets really tiring at this point.

I just remember rocket saying the night would look terrible...

I guess that would be one thing for me to hear were getting close , the night...

I can tell you now. Your mind will not be blown.

But hopefully, it will be the good solid place to start.

 

So what i understand is that rocket just said: We will get the alpha [insert random time space, probably "soon"]. But it won't be the perfect polished thing, it will be more like alright we got it and its  in a "playable" for a start, now we can satisfy our addiction.

 

Hints, hints and hints or just random words in a random order... only the dev Team knows.

 

I hope they will post a real confirm for the release with the "its habbening" image, as they are all watching at these threads and probably know it already. :)

Have we heard what they plan on doing about in-game communication? I know there'll be radios (which I am 100% in-favor of), but will there be a type of global chat akin to sidechat now? Will there be an option to toggle it?

 

I personally, think sidechat is entirely toxic and want to get rid of artificial comms entirely. Not even the option. It's an easy way out (especially in conjunction with TS/Vent which I abhor, but can't really advocate against). The majority of conversations in side are either trolling or complaining. It allows for players to bitch about every death and (on the flip side) for others to incite toxic behavior. Only a small sliver of conversations are actually to negotiate player interaction.

 

There should be no option for this in SA. You either have a radio to communicate with other players with radios/receivers, you have direct-chat (proximity-based) or you have programs like TS to communicate with a fixed number of people.

I think they're trying to keep the hype alive while they spend another month or week or so desperately trying to get something fixed--but they're freakishly slow. It's as if Dean goes to his office, then stays there drinking coca cola or eating candy from the vending machine, and then says, "Oh, well. Been a tough day at work, better go home."

 

Seriously, what can take so long??? They got the network bubble as they said they needed so then now what's the fucking holdup? Just invite pre-alpha testers and get it over with!!!

This is exactly what he meant. Thank you. He's just disclaiming that it will be underwhelming by virtue of it being an alpha. That's all.

Everytime someone makes the stupid suggestion of removing global chat, it makes the people furious who've caught a cheater and need it reported to the admin--but they can't.

It's as freaking annoying as when your chat UI is deallocated (i.e., removed) when you die. So anybody camping a spawn and using aimbot will make it 100% impossible to report that aimbotter because some retarded developer thought it was a good idea to deallocate the chat UI EVERY_FREAKING_TIME you die.

 

Global chat is needed for many reasons, such as for newbies who're not familiar with controls, people who want to report exploiters/cheaters, and many other reasons.

Well as if anybody here is expecting a perfect and polished version at the beginning, it would be the open alpha so we all would be testers, it would be our duty to report bugs and stuff. I have no problem with that, we would all participate at something nice and big.

Since when has DayZ been a "noob-friendly" enterprise? Catering systems to new players isn't in the auspices of DayZ.

 

Likewise, there are better approaches. Like an "Admin" chat whereby one can report bugs/hacks. It doesn't have to be seen by EVERYONE. Just the admin.

:( I'm afraid I have to disagree with you, they can just read a guide if they're that desperate. DayZ is a game to learn yourself in my opinion and I wish I could unlearn everything I've learned to get a new fresh experience.

The global chat is there to annoy me, people chatting over it like it's nothing really happening and sometimes they even use voice which is rather annoying. I had this idea that the "Radio" would be used and you could pick up signals with it if you find the correct channel.

 

I dunno, maybe they've already planned that and I'm far behind. I DISLIKE SIDE CHAT A LOT.

They have, fortunately. But the issue, now that we know that, is whether or not they'll include the option to have global side-chat IN ADDITION to in-game radios.

Yea, giving the dog a bone is a bad idea, so maybe the owner will make a bone lookalike out of meat.. no.

Dean's not going to make an admin chat for non-admins. Not going to happen. Either we get global chat or probably 9/10 of all players are going to be extremely annoyed.

 

Did you play BF3 when the kill-all-players-with-1-button-"hack" was available and many people were using it? Basically the cheater would spam his kill button while everybody was dying and nobody could type "admin" in chat (which directly calls the admin through a server plugin) to get the admin to  ban the cheater because the BF3 developers' got shit in their brain and have no idea how to make a useful UI.
