No Zombies in a Zombie Survival Game, Alpha or Beta whatever I'm outta here have no interest at all .

I have to laugh every time I hear this. Although superficially you have a point, people don't play DayZ for the zombies... The zombies have been the biggest source of controversy ever since the mod was launched. The majority of the player base hate them.

They're shit and completely broken, yet the game is still extremely popular. It's the human interaction that makes the game special..not the zombies.

**Disclaimer** - I'm not saying I want, nor expect the game to be released without zeds, but in fairness you're throwing your toys out of the pram over a "non-feature"; "minor annoyance" is the preferred term I think. Again this isn't about how the game should or could be, simply how it is in it's current iteration; you know, the one that got so popular a standalone version was ordered?

this will not happen anyway... :)

Yeh that's a fairly good point tbh.  He only mentioned it as one of a few options, he says stupid stuff all the time.

The standalone isn't about delivering a clone of the mod, it's about unleashing DayZ's full potential and realising Rocket's vision of a survival simulator, not a 225km2 deathmatch arena with (or maybe without at first) zombies.

I know that mate, and I agree with the sentiment, but the fact is we don't know how it's going to turn out. Almost 2 million people have either purchased Arma 2 or simply downloaded the mod in order to play the game as it currently is, broken/non-existent zombies and all. I'm just making the point that although the game is labelled as a "zombie survival" game, in the grand scheme of things, the zombies currently have little bearing on the success of the game.

Personally I think it was more a case of the majority getting into DayZ for the zombie survival experience and then coming to terms with and accepting the current state of play. I can't wait for the standalone and changes that it (hopefully) brings. :)

From my experience in-game the new guys tend to be the ones charging straight towards every player that they see screaming 'FRIENDLYYY!' only to be gunned down more often than not and eventually going the KoS route themselves.

Just found this posted on reddit, comparison shot of Polana

Interesting that the view distance in the lower arma2 pic appears to be set higher than the standalone pic yet the trees in the standalone pic go much further back.

Can't wait to explore Chernarus all over again.

Well, I think the original debate wasn't about having a DayZ without Zeds. Would we just call the game Day if that were the case? Just kidding  ;)

The debate was whether or not they should release the game as an alpha with the "broken" zeds or no zeds at all.

Rocket has already stated that they will rework the zeds entirely, so in all honesty it's pointless to say what zeds will be in the SA as no one knows. The question that people were addressing it should they release the alpha without zeds or with the current zeds (which Rocket says are completely broken).

Thanks!

people need to understand, that he will release the alpha with zombies, he was just making a example of how willing he is to release the alpha, to show he cant wait to release it, justas mutch as we cant wait for it to release, its not that he will release alpha without zombies, he just want to let people know, he want it out asap,

View distance settings seems to be like in Arma 3/ToH so you can put object draw distance at the same level as view distance. In Arma 2 they're tied together so trees don't draw in the fog.

Looking very nice.

A lot of people seem to forget, because it was shown off and talked about a while back, that we're getting near-100% enterable interiors. For me, this is reason enough to buy SA.

How i see the alpha thing.

It is just like the paypal button i see on numerous pages around the internet. I can choose to give someone a bit of money to hopefully get something good in return. If i dont its like a few bags of candy that tasted good but are really bad for me and shouldnt been bought in the first place.

Thats just what it is. A way for you to get a spot into the alpha, nothing more nothing less. It does not automaticly give you the right to dictate how the development goes.

So arguing over the fact if zombies are going to be released in alpha or not is pointless. And to be honest, not a single person except the guy who takes the decision about it knows so i do not see the point.

Maybe we should take the questions and put them all in the bag again and shake it a little and see if we cant get them out the correct way.

Something like, ok i know theres going to be zombies in this game, i  am really curious how the new ones going to look. Taking them out during beta might be a bad thing but all in all it might actually be a really good thing as well. Just imagine how much more fun the alpha will be once they are back!

i personally cant wait, to see what they are doing with the zombies in the SA, and how people play it, like will people make groups, and survive, like the walking dead style of living, not the bandit, way, that could be fun, and i cant wait to see what they are doing with base building, and vehicles, and i really hope they add the feature, where the longer you´ve lived,  a beard will grow on you, that could be FREAKING COOL! :D

i wonder, does anyone know, if items despawn if you drop them, or if you can use a building as base ,and drop alot of items in there, will the items stay there for you to use, or wil they despawn?

I'd imagine they'd despawn after a set amount of time like 10 minutes, just to leave no burden on the servers.

I wouldn't be too sure of this.  The server combined with the economy server will be keeping track of thousands upon thousands of objects already.  I am they will be able to track a few items that you picked up stored somewhere else without issue.

Since the items are still in the server, they will be factored into the economy, more wouldn't start spawning out of proportion.

I see no reason that they would need to be deleted after a mere ten minutes.

Just my opinion, hope that makes sense.

This. They might despawn some things at some point to give variety in the loot but 10 mins might be too short except if they're starting to change loot in the server(s).
